Trying to Figure Out a Play...
Ok so I remember listening to this particular musical growing up. The story goes something like this.
A woman is being held captive and is scheduled to be executed soon. She begins to tell all of the guards a very engaging story bit by bit everyday. When the day comes for her execution, the guards extend it another day so they can continue to hear the story. The story goes on and on like this with the guards continuously postponing her execution so they can listen to this amazing story. I don't quite remember how it all ends (and please don't tell me if you know the story). I can't for the life of me remember the name of it though. Any ideas?

Dunno the play, but that's pretty much the framing story for "One Thousand and One Nights" aka "Arabian Nights".

A neverending story where guys are being charmed by a woman? Sounds like every Katherine Heigl movie.

It is similar to the story of Man of La Mancha, but it is the man who does the storytelling and it doesn't specifically keep the guards from killing him. But it does keep the other angry inmates from killing him or stealing his stuff.

Last year we saw a musical Arabian Nights performed at the Lookinglass Theater in Chicago. It was a spur of the moment purchase, and we absolutely loved it. According to the show's history, it was first performed in 1992. Maybe you saw/heard a version of this show on tour? Here is a link

It's Scheherazade, by Rimsky-Korsakov. It did come from the Arabian Nights tales, but is specifically Scheherazade.
Playing the symphony was part of the plot of the last new Leverage, which my wife and I had recorded and watched yesterday. On that show, they say it was the Shah she told the tales to, not the jailers. the Shah liked to bed a woman and then have her killed so no other man could have her. Hence the stories kept her alive.

I was totally expecting a different problem.
I was planning to suggest "The Lorenzo von Matterhorn." |
