Game 1:

ElSe United 6
Sony Ericcson United 0

At Else United Arena, 7000 punters turned up, and despite threatening clouds at the horizon, no rain came. United had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Browning - Beltrán, Jean, Braxton - Ubierna, Oneal, Diaz, Purdy, Tillman - Marshall, Ridgeway.

SonyEriccson had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Fugate - Stokes, Bliss, Rangel, Fagan - Wicker, Kline, Padgett, Allred - Eason, Jiménez.

In the 12th minute cheers broke out as Edmund Tillman found his way through the guests central defense line, clipping the 1 - 0 goal in for United. In the 14:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Wendell Oneal dashed through, knocking home 2 - 0 for United. Sheldon Ridgeway should probably have put his team up another goal in the 31st minute, but some great goaltending by Mitchell Fugate kept the visitors in the game. United put themselves up 3 - 0 when Eric Braxton broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive box behind him. In the games 34:th minute SonyEriccson´s Dustin Fagan fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Dustin Fagan for taking a dive. The teams went for a half-time break at 3 - 0. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by United, with an impressive 77 percent possession of the ball.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put United lead up with 4 - 0. Dennis Jean finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle. After this United lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. In the 54:th minute United put themselves up 5 - 0. The visitors defenders lost the ball to Eric Braxton coming up from the left, who proceeded to cooly round the goaltender and knock the ball home. A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 63 minutes might have resulted in another goal for United. However, Mitchell Fugate made a spectacular save. A great save by goaltender Mitchell Fugate in the 70:th minute kept the visitors in the game as Samuel Marshall struck from the left with a real cannonball. In the 75:th minute United put themselves up 6 - 0. The visitors defenders lost the ball to Wendell Oneal coming up from the left, who proceeded to cooly round the goaltender and knock the ball home. The referee showed Uniteds Charles Diaz the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. United, bringing the final ball possession rate to 83 percent, dominated the battle.

The most dominating United player was without a doubt Edmund Tillman. Charles Diaz was a disappointment, however. The most dominating SonyEriccson player was without a doubt Bud Padgett. Freddie Rangel on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 6 - 0.

I ran a 3-5-2...I don't think the team is used to that...could that be why my team is so out of whack?

3-5-2 is arguably the best formation to run in the game. 4-5-1 is the other one. The hattrick game engine empahsizes midfield so much, and if you play a 4-3-3 for example against a 3-5-2 it is suicide. I learned this the hard way.

After selling the place out (cap. 7,000), and seeing that my supporters are listed as 'high on life', I've decided to generate some extra revenue by adding 3,000 seats.

Construction is underway, and will finish on 3/18!!! WOOO WOOO

***PRESS RELEASE***

Groundbreaking Set for 3/10/03 for Stadium Expansion!
ElSe United annonced today (3/10) a stadium expansion that will increase seating at the Fairgrounds by 3,000 (from 7,000, to 10,000).

This is due in part to the high demand for tickets in recent weeks, and the clubs attempt to accommodate all who want to watch United's exciting brand of soccer.

Thanks for your support!

I guess now is probably not a good time to inform you of the 63/25/10/2 rule on stadiums (if you hadn't heard of it already). That's 63% terraces, 25% basic, 10% under roof, 2% VIP boxes on stadium capacity. It's fairly well documented and researched as the most profitable approach to your stadium configuration. Oh well, if you didn't already know, you do now.

Edit: Doh! It's 63% terraces, not 62 (I can add, yes sir I can.)

Well, soon I'll have 70% terrace, and 30% basic...close enough for now.

Thanks for the info, though!

This is really pretty interesting...I've never been a part of someone else's dynasty before. Hopefully I can get my team turned around in time to give you a good game next season.

I may at the start of the next season. That might be cool, a duel dynasty.

Right now, I'm still trying to figure out where I should play everyone, getting a feel for my team and trying like crazy to line up friendlies so I can get my guys on the pitch

Dueling dynasties or a dual dynasty or both?

ElSe United 6
Xenocide 0

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 7000 to xenocide Arena. xenocide had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Wilson - Grimes, Hunt, Knott, Warner - Burkhart, Ainsworth, Melton, Wise - Charles, Odonnell.

United started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Browning - Braxton, Jean, Beltrán - Calvert, Oneal, Diaz, Purdy, Tillman - Marshall, Ridgeway.

United had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially in the 8:th minute when Sheldon Ridgeway came up alone against Juán Wilson who managed a block. United took the lead in the games 24:th minute with 0 - 1 after some elegant plays down the middle. Sheldon Ridgeway was the scorer. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, xenocide´s Don Melton got himself booked. Don Melton received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly, probably out of lack of experience, in the 25:th minute and almost caused an opponent to score. After 27 minutes Bryan Warner got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn´t get the shot away. Samuel Marshall was, after 39 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Juán Wilson saved. Wendell Oneal sailed high, high above the opponents as he headed the 0-2 in after a corner kick after 43 minutes of play. Edmund Tillman increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 3. 0 - 3 was the half-time score. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by United, with an impressive 76 percent possession of the ball.

The visitors Charles Diaz took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and full backs in the 47:th minute. 0 - 4 for United. The structure of the game started to change as United decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone. Sheldon Ridgeway came close to extending the visitors lead as he, completely unmarked in front of the goal, lifted a ball over Juán Wilson, hitting the bar. In the 80:th minute xenocides Jonathan Hunt received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. In the 84:th minute the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 5 as Samuel Marshall finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. The referee showed Uniteds Nazario Beltrán the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After 87 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Mikey Calvert who increased United´s lead to 0 - 6. In the games 89:th minute xenocide´s Elliott Wise fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Elliott Wise for taking a dive. 89 minutes into the game Jonathan Hunt had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Frank Ray. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by United, with an impressive 92 percent possession of the ball.

xenocide´s best player was Tony Grimes. Frank Ray on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important United player was Edmund Tillman. Charles Diaz was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 6.

2. bixel's boys 14 21 - 14 26
3. FluffyBunnyFeet 14 19 - 17 23
4. FC Yurgonnadie 14 22 - 20 22
5. xenocide 14 11 - 22 17
6. Eugene Emeralds 14 14 - 16 16
7. SonyEricsson United 14 10 - 24 12
8. Des Conecticucados 14 7 - 28 5

After a third consecutive poor outing by Charles Diaz, it may be time to sit the 22 year-old midfielder down, and give someone else a chance. Possible a youth-team callup?

Is there any chance of promotion this year?

I'm almost hoping I don't get promoted! I looked at some guys D-IV squad today...and they would blow me out...he's only in 4th place.

I have a question for you. I finished first in my division...do I automatically get a qualification match?

The Complex Spikes season ended this past weekend as they finished second in their division. The Spikes will likely play some of their better defenders in this weeks friendly against ELSe United in order to stop their prolific offensive attack (and also because I haven't built a youth squad and need to get my players some experience). I will also be trying a new formation that I have little experience with. I can't wait to see how my defensively oriented team matches up against a strong offensive attack.

The top half of all division winners (using points, then goal differential, then goal scored) get automatic promotion to the next division. They replace teams from the upper division that finished 7th and 8th.

The bottom half of all division winners play a qualification match against a team from the upper division that finished 5th or 6th. If you go to the page that has your series standings, you can see where the "promotion line" is by clicking on the link in the bottom right portion of the screen.

You have a qualifier.

Can't wait! I'm finally getting enough players to actually rest my better ones

2 of my regular starters are playing, Forward Sheldon Ridgeway, and Winger Mikey Calvert, only because I don't have enough two have two full squads :/

Newly acquired (transfer) Delmer Chance (18 year-old, worth 90k) will be playing Central Defense, so it'll be interesting to see how he does.

Should be fun!

ElSe United Fan Bash Full of Surprises
EL SEGUNDO, CA - Today marked the first annual 'ElSe United Fan Bash', where fans of all ages were invited to come to the ElSe United Arena to celebrate the teams D-V.251 League Championship. Admittance was free to all paid supporters, and $10 for all non-registered supporters.

Players signed autographs as well as accepted their First Place trophy to a deafing roar.

ElSe United Management also had some nice surprises for the fans, introducing new Head Coach Ted Sinclair, taking over for the recently departed Darryl Isaacs, who left the team abruptly last week after pictures appeared in the tabloids of Isaacs in a hot tub with a known bookie in Las Vegas. Sinclair, 41, comes to ElSe with outstanding experience, and good (passable) leadership qualities.

ElSe also unveiled it's new 2003 logo to the supporters in attendance:

...as well as issued t-shirts to it's 534 annual supporters:

ElSe has it's final home appearance of the season this Wednesday vs. the Complex Spikes, the second-place team in D-V.249, who are traveling out west from New Orleans to participate in a scheduled Friendly.

ElSe's bid to join D-IV is on the line this Sunday, when United travels to Chicago to take on 'The Hoops'. Although a bit overmatched, skipper Ronnie Purdy isn't packing it in just yet, "We've come a long way under our new ownership, and it would only be right to reward them, as well as our wonderful fans with a victory."

For depth, I bought two players. A 17 year-old by the name of Lorenzo Walker, who is now a starting winger:

Lorenzo Walker
52 000 US$, 17 years, passable form
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities [Head]

Stamina: weak Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: poor Passing: weak
Winger: passable Defending: wretched
Scoring: inadequate Set Pieces: wretched

And an 18 year-old Midfielder, Anthony Esparza:

Anthony Esparza
34 000 US$, 18 years, poor form
Has disastrous experience and poor leadership abilities [Powerful]

Stamina: passable Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: inadequate Passing: passable
Winger: poor Defending: poor
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: poor

Next: Qualification Match

It's with a sad heart I come to you. The bid for D-IV has fallen short. After hanging with 'The Hoops' for 35 minutes, it just wasn't meant to be. Enough with the commentary:

ElSe United 2
The Hoops 5

Date: 3/24/2003 at 01:00
MatchID: 5130196
Arena: The Hoops Arena
Crowd: 11216

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 11216 to The Hoops Arena. Hoops tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Corbalán - Lang, Dunstan, Matsuoka - Langset, Llorente, Hewlett, bin Ahmad, Landers - Vidal, Walton.

United tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Browning - Jean, Chance, Braxton - Tillman, Oneal, Diaz, Purdy, Walker - Marshall, Ridgeway.

Donny Vidal gave his Hoops the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post. Wendell Oneal sailed high, high above the opponents as he headed the 1-1 in after a corner kick after 34 minutes of play. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 in the 39:th by a breakthrough from Daniel Lang, who unaided came in out of the right wing hooking the ball over the visitors keeper. In the 42nd minute Hoopss Tracy Landers received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Hoops held the ball, with a clear 61 percent possession rate.

Hoops put their lead ahead another goal as Saul Walton struck home the 3 - 1 goal, after an attack from the left setting him up unmarked with the keeper. In the to 68:th minute a very unfortunate collision in the home teams penalty area led to United´s Wendell Oneal being carried off the pitch and replaced by Will Boling. A lovely rush by Hoops's Thomas Langset pastEric Braxton could have resulted in a goal, but the finish was just outside. In the 73rd minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Donny Vidal dashed through, knocking home 4 - 1 for Hoops. After this Hoops lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. With clinical precision the cross pass from winger Edmund Tillman found it's way to Lorenzo Walker's head, and a screaming header gave United 4 - 2. Hoops put their lead ahead another goal as Donny Vidal struck home the 5 - 2 goal, after an attack from the left setting him up unmarked with the keeper. This third goal made a hat trick for Donny Vidal. Hoops, bringing the final ball possession rate to 58 percent, dominated the battle.

Most important Hoops player was Lucas Dunstan. Saul Walton on the other hand, had a terrible day. United´s best player was Edmund Tillman. Will Boling was a disappointment, however. The match ends 5 - 2. The match ends 5 - 2.

Early Prognosis has 19 year-old Wendell O'Neal, the core of the team, down for 3 weeks with an injury. A specialist (doctor) has been brought in to treat the injury.

As to not think too negatively, we'll now turn our attention to the upcoming season.

***PRESS RELEASE***

EL SEGUNDO, CA - Today United Chairman Rexallsc announced that star winger Edmund Tillman has been sold to the Romanian side Cosmic. Tillman was happy with the move, recently citing his desire to move to a club that was not in the process of getting younger. The 26 year-old Tillman does not figure to be a first team player at Cosmic, and it is not yet known what role he will play at his new club.

United cite the need for financial flexibility as the reason for the move. Financial terms were not disclosed, although Tillman was valued at $92,000.
