FOOL 2044 Offseason

My time is kind of hectic today, plus I have to drive to Connecticut and back. So some of my normal Wednesday stuff may have to wait a little bit till late tonight or tomorrow. (Draft Review and Hall of Fame) we'll see how my time goes.

For now, lets get out the yearly awards!

Bloemheuvel really had an amazing year for us, but alas he wants to test free agency. I'm going with Walt Conrad in the draft, I just can't miss an opportunity to draft a great pitcher.

The 2028 Draft in Review

The Studs:

Dave Juteau :
Drafted by the Montreal Majestics with the 4th pick in the 1st round - Perhaps the toughest call yet on which player was the best of the draft. Starting pitcher Mike Bradford was probably almost equally as good of a pick as Juteau. We'll give the nod to Juteau however as he has been perhaps the premiere hitter in the Continental League for the last 12 seasons.

Honors and Awards
AwardYearsTimes Won
Hideaki Tanaka Award2037, 2038, 20413
Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award20311
All-Star2031, 2032, 2033, 2034, 2036, 2037, 2038, 2039, 2040, 2041, 2042, 204312

Mike Bradford : Drafted by the Baltimore Charm with the 1st pick in the 1st round

Justin Ledrew : Drafted by the Hartford Harpooners with the 5th pick in the 1st round

Jud Wallace : Drafted by the Colorado Rancheros with the 2nd pick in the 1st round

Tamrat Chelanga : Drafted by the Chico Rebels with the 3rd pick in the 1st round

The Steals:

Kuei-lin Hsi :
Drafted by the Chico Rebels with the 3rd pick in the 2nd round - When solid, dependable starting pitching is at a premium, getting a 12-year starting pitcher in the second round is a steal. Hsi's best seasons were during Chico's championship run of the late 2030s including the 2038 season when Hsi went 20-8.

Honors and Awards
AwardYearsTimes Won
All-Star2038, 2039, 20403

Jose Reyes : Drafted by the Baltimore Charm with the 1st pick in the 3rd round

The Busts!

Bartolo Moran :
Drafted by the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines with the 9th pick in the 1st round - Moran definitely did eat innings for Ann Arbor, but at times you may wonder if they would have been better having the Right Fielder in there to pitch instead. He was often among the league leaders in categories such as Walks, Home Runs Allowed, Wild Pitches, Losses, etc.

Jean-François Nadeau : Drafted by the Hammersmith Hooligans with the 11th pick in the 1st round

Aurelio Torres : Drafted by the Boston Settlers with the 6th pick in the 1st round

The Best of the Rest:

CF Julián Cuevas : Drafted by the Apex Assassins with the 7th pick in the 1st round
P Matt Knight : Drafted by the Edmonton Edge with the 10th pick in the 1st round

This draft annoyed the heck out of me. Nadeau just never hit his original projections, and Knight, who went to ekcut right ahead of my pick, was the guy I really wanted. So to not get Knight, and end up with Nadeua was a downer that only got worse as the years went by, and Knight became an effective pitcher, while Nadeau's Control never rose enough to be considered for my rotation.

I made him available in the expansion draft, and he was drafted out of my organization.

I was stoked when I realized I had Juteau with the 4th pick. Didn't think Chelanga would go ahead of him but I guess Chico needed pitching back then.

Yeah, that was the time that I was babysitting Chico while Buck was gone. Chico needed pitching in the worse way and tons of it.

If I remember correctly, this was an autopick for me by the computer when I forgot to enter my draft list. I would have taken Chelanga instead of Wallace.

Wallace might have a place on the bust list as well. He had amazing potentials, never reached them, and just crumbled quickly.

Between the hectic week and my oldest daughter's 9th birthday party, been busy! Here is the FOOL Hall of Fame Class of 2044 however, better late than never!

Only one inductee this year. In one hand was one of the most explosive players to ever play the game. In the other hand was one of the most disappointing players ever to play the game. He only played 9 seasons and his skills faded quickly.

Thursday, March 31st, 2044: Hall of Fame Inducts Dawson
Frank Dawson played baseball a long time and he played it well. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Dawson has been voted into the Hall of Fame.

"There is so much to love about this game," the newest honoree said during his induction speech at the Front Office Offseason League Baseball Hall of Fame. "I couldn't imagine anything greater than my first major league game. Then I hit my first home run. Then the other landmarks came. But nothing tops today... to think that I made it to the Hall of Fame."

The legendary first baseman put up some impressive numbers. Dawson played in 1429 games, compiled a .343 batting average, hit 341 home runs, drove in 1264 runs and scored 1096 times during his career.

Anyone else having trouble getting the file to download? I can't get it thru the game, was wondering if it's just me or not.

I have problems all the time. Sometimes it helps to hit the export first, then try to download. I think the problem has something to do with FTP auth, or FTP connection. I really think its picky about losing packets, and if you happen to drop some it just cuts off.

Sorry guys, this was my fault. The ootp9 file still pointed to the old domain from before I made the fool webpage. That domain expired this weekend and I didn't think that it would mess anything up.

I just uploaded a new file with the correct site on it but you will have to manually download it from the league webpage (won't be able to in game this time).

If you already have downloaded the file earlier this weekends and have already made changes that you just need to upload, you can send them to me via email dunhere AT yahoo DOT com (replace the AT with @ and DOT with . obviously)
Or you can export to file, download the new league file and then import your changes from file before exporting to the server. Whichever you prefer (or you can do both just to make sure), I'm easy!

Let me know if there are any questions. Sorry for the confusion/problems!

HELP!

I have 5 guys on my ML roster who have dashes next to their salary info for current. I am at 64, 998, 000 for salary according to the front page of my front office, and 64.5 according to the more detailed salary report tab. As long as I stick with the exact roster I have currently, I should be ok salary wise right?

What I look at is:

FOOL -> Reports -> Financial Report

On the Financial Report, I look at the Payroll table (The one that lists all teams). If you are over there, then you are over cap. It keeps track of who you have on the roster with dashes for salary now (that will make league minimum once the season starts), so it is fine. Just go off that report and you will be ok.

Let me know if I am unclear with that and I can post a screenshot of what I mean.

Clear. I just wanted to be sure the dash guys were accounted for as 100k guys once opening day hits.

I'm porked this year, I only have 22 guys and no true middle relief at all. I made aggressive offers on 3 position players and got all 3. Whoops.

Was just looking at the export tracker and noticed Newark hasn't bothered to update his squad since Halloween. Who's next in line to take over a team?

I sent him an email earlier today about it. I don't have much of a waiting list for ootp9 right now (but I have a couple that I believe might be interested that are really on the waiting list for ootpx leagues). Since i just emailed him today, I'll give him a day or so to respond (at least through Wednesday). Sometimes life happens, so want to at least give him a shot.
