Whose idea was it...

for the changing camera angles in the TD Waterhouse commercials? You know, the ones with Sam Waterston, where the camera angle keeps changing, so the people talking are almost never looking into the camera? What the hell is that supposed to represent, either visually or artistically?

I totally concur, and simply despise that style of commercial.

I can't answer the question, but I can tell a story.

I took a television production class in college (lol drama and communications degree lol), and each student had to make his or her own 3- to 5-minute television program. I decided to do a spoof of an awards show. Pretty much the only requirement for the production was that we had to switch cameras at least 3 (maybe 4) times. One of my classmates acted as the award presenter. Now, since we only had two cameras and not many students in the room, I couldn't cut from the presenter to the audience. There WAS no audience. Instead, I just placed the camera on her from two different angles, and I switched a couple of times between them while she was talking. Unfortunately, she got a little confused when I switched the first time (as the director, I warned her about it beforehand!), and she just kinda stared off into space when the first camera cut away from her. She finally figured out what was going on and continued speaking, but I got bitched out by the professor over that one.

Anyway, basically, I've done the kind of thing that happens in those commercials, but I was just trying to fulfill a classroom requirement with insufficient equipment.

I forgot to mention that the girl was fucking hot, and I still have the tape of that production.

Has anyone else noticed that one of the other guys in one of the TD Waterhouse commercials was twice a murderer on Law & Order? Everytime I see the commercial, I wonder why Jack McCoy is talking about stock brokers with a two-time murderer. It makes me that that anyone who is a regular Law & Order watcher is subconsciously turned off by the commercial. But that's probably just me.
