what the best Linux Distribution?

what the best Linux Distribution?

i really like Gentoo Linux.

Gentoo Linux system as "up-to-date" as you desire. And because of this, experienced Gentoo users don't pay too much attention to "new versions" of Gentoo Linux -- after all, the latest and greatest version of Gentoo Linux is always available by typing an emerge --sync command. There's no need to wait several months for a "new version" of Gentoo Linux to be released because Gentoo Linux is continually updated and refined and these improvements are immediately made available to you.

I was a big fan of Ubunto for the little bit I tried it.

I know next to nothing about Linux though, so take that for what it's worth. I thought it was very sleek, setup was a snap compared to what I'd always heard with Linux distros. I'd use it again for sure.

I'm a Linux noob too, but I run a dual boot system with Mandriva Linux 2006 on the last 10 GB of my HD. It's the most "Windows-like", but it's easy to use and install and fits my needs.

For live versions, I love Knoppix.

I've used Suse, Red Hat/Fedora and Mandrake. I lean towards Suse, but in the end I'm not enough of an expert to have a valid opinion . I've been wanting to give Gentoo a spin.

I've been dabbling with Linux a little bit for the last couple of years...everything from Redhat, Mandrake, Suse, and Xandros to my current webserver, Ubuntu.

No complaints about any of them...they all have their pros and cons. I guess it all depends on what you want out of your Linux distro...are you using it as a desktop...a webserver...an application server...a mail server...and so on.

A couple of months ago, I decided to give hosting my own website a go and did some reading and really liked what Ubuntu had to offer on the webserver side of things and I had it up and running in no time...and despite being a relative noob, it was pretty easy.
