Great drinkin' music?

I am drinking alone tonight....Old Crow, rotgut bourbon to be exact. I'm feeling warm and buzzed after about 5 shots. After my 3rd shot, I put White Stripes-Elephant into the CD player. Now, it's on the song "Hardest Button to Button".

I realized that this album is awesome, snarling, "I'm gonna kick your ass if you look at me wrong" music. Except for the track that Meg White sings. Fuck that. What are your favorite drinking albums, FOFC'ers?

It depends on my mood. Usually slow jams on the R&B groove tip.

Hoo boy. You win, HERD. One of the greatest albums of all time for me.

Teeth Like God's Shoeshine hits like a ton of bricks, then goes soft, then comes back raging, then quiets down again, then hits a climax in about 7 minutes.

Heart Cooks Brain with it's endless metaphors. Or are they similies? Personifications? I don't know but I love 'em "My brain's a cliff, and my heart's the bitter buffalo"

Convenient Parking...I bet you're feelin' real dirty...

Song #4 I can't remember the name of.....not really one of my favorites..but I've been known to sing that ending refrain when I meet a new girl..

What is track #5? I can't even remember?

Doin' The Cockroach...On my top 10 all time songs. TAKIN' YO MONEY!!!

Cowboy Dan...I didn't move to the city-the city moved to me!!

Trailer Trash-Great outro...poignant

Out of Gas....opinions were like kittens, I was given 'em away

What's 10 called? Basically an interlude

Shit Luck has been in at least a few skate videos. It's a song all my punk/skater friends love....Great angry song that's easy to wail on guitar

Trucker's Atlas...maybe a bit too long, but awesome...Goin up to Alaska, I'm gettin' off scot FUCKIN' free

The last few songs always meld together for me....Styrofoam Boots, It's all nice on ice, etc...real good songs.

This is as much of a road trip album as it is a drinking album. When I drove from California to Arkansas, and then California to Alabama the proceeding summer, this felt just right during the many desolate stretches, as does ...This is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About..Let it break through, oh yeah!

Agree. I have so many great drunk memories to go along with this one as well. William Bowers from pitchfork had a great line about the album from their best of the 90s list(iquoting from memory here): "an Iliad for the soulsearching casual cokehead." Nobody is better at the unassumingly hilarious (&, usually, sad) one-liner than isaac brock.

My favorite line from this oen, another gem of understated comedy: "He goes to the desert, fires his rifle in the sky, says 'God, if I have to die, you will have to die."

Very sad song. Great use of narrative ambiguity--is it: "Short love with a long divorce, and a couple of kids, of course. They don't mean anything." or "A couple of kids--of course, they don't mean anything. Is it: "Live in trailers with no class, goddamn I hope I can pass. High school means nothing" or "'Goddamn I hope I can pass high school' means nothing."

Start at the northwest corner, go down through california. Bee-line, you might drive three days and three nights to the tip of florida.

No mention of of Polar Opposites? Brock is at his lisping best vocally, A+ bass line. great guitar line also.. "I know I should go, but I will probably stay. And that's all you can do about some things." Not to mention the immenintly pertinent(to this thread) chorus : "I'm trying to drink away the part of the day that I cannot sleep away."

the last two tracks, They do sort of flow together with their sacriligious imagery, but give somes props to "Bankrupt on Selling", one of my favorite sad songs to sing drunk ever, becaue the more you slur your speech the better it becomes: "it took a long time til i came clean with myself i come clean out of love with my lover i still love her, loved her more when she used to be sober and i was kinder"

And syrofoam boots/it's all nice on ice has some classic brock lines. "all's not well, but i'm told that it'll all be quite nice--you'll be drowned in boots like Mafia, but your feet will still float like Christ's. Well, i'll be damned,
they were right--I'm drowning upside down, my feet afloat like Christ's" and the poignant: "he said that 'you were right, no ones runnin this whole thing'. he had a theory too: he said that 'god takes car of himself, and you of you.'"

Well, Jesus fuckin; H. Christ; I'm gonna have to out to my car without my shoes or shirt on to grab this album and listen to it. I can't put my shoes or shirt on because I'm much too drunk and lazy, you know? It's 10 till 2. Nobody's out there, anyways....

I can't believe I forgot Jesus Christ Was An Only Child...wow...that was always one of my favorites. Any song that mentions aborting Jesus is off the charts... That's just a testament to how great an album is to you: When you totally forget one of your favorite songs. Bankrupt on Selling is actually what I was trying to think of, rather than Styrofoam Boots. Bankrupt On Selling might actually be the best song on the album. I say that about every LCW song.

Anyone who can't get into this album 5 songs in could never be a friend of mine...

Whenever I am feeling so mighty fine from imbibing, I have a hankering for listening to anything by Garth Brooks followed by Motorhead

I don't know why

I always wake up with NO hangover...must be the Motorhead keeping the morning after yucks away

Dungen is great. Being drunk helps because it is in a different language and all. Beware the evil flute.
