World Cup & EPL Pool Dynasty
So, through a coworker here, I got myself into a fairly high money pool (technically two) for the World Cup, and once it starts back up, next year's Premier. I'm officially one of two people living in the US in this pool, and technically the only American (my coworker is British). USA represent!
The winner of the World Cup pool takes home 700 pounds, 2nd place 200, 3rd place 100. Last check, there's about 200 people playing, so the odds of me winning are slim to none, but hey, it's fun! Points work out like so....you pick the score of every match / week, with the following values. Home Win, Spot On: +30 Home Win: +20 (-3 points per wrongly predicted goal) Draw, Spot On: +40 Draw: +30 (-3 points per wrongly predicted goal) Away Win, Spot On: +50 Away Win: +30 (-3 points per wrongly predicted goal) Wrong Prediction: 0 (-3 per wrongly predicted goal) Needless to say, hitting exact scores is quite nice. There are also random fun bonus points from time to time, which I will detail as they come up. Anyway, I've got my sheets for the Pre-Cup Fun Questions, and for Week 1. I'll be detailing my picks and how I'm doing as the weeks pass. |

Week 2 is due June 14, Week 3 is due June 20. I'll be doing those after the first week is up, so I can see exactly how good/pitiful my impulse week is.

This looks like a ton of fun. I assume it's 5lbs to enter, given the 1,000lbs in prize and 200 people playing.

Just did a quick count, there's more like 250+. The dude running it does take a cut (he runs this VERY well, and it would take a good amount of time) It's 30 pounds total for the Cup and the Premier entries. The Premier pool has a MUCH bigger payout. If memory serves, it's something like 3,000 pounds to the winner, and a good amount to the next couple folks. Chunk 'o change. Not like I'll win though. |

It Begins!
Coffee's Picks for Today....Germany over Costa Rica 2-1, and Poland drawing with Ecuador, 1-1. Correct on the first game will get me 20 points (30 if I'm spot on), and the second game will get me 30 (40 for spot on). Let's get it on! AND, the the oddball points I can get today... 1st goal of tourney scored with right foot - 30pts Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 06-09-2006 at 10:00 AM. |

Through 2 days of games...
Only missed with 1 pick (Poland/Ecuador), and hit a spot on match with England v Paraguay. Not bad at all. The Sweden T&T draw woulda been nice had I not called 2 goals apiece there. Still not bad. Missed a few of the goofball ones, but did hit with that right footer. Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 06-10-2006 at 04:56 PM. |

Through June 12.
Germany - Costa Rica (Correct) England - Paraguay (Correct - Spot On) Sweden - T&T (Correct) Argentina - Ivory Coast (Correct) Mexico - Iran (Correct - Spot On) Czech - USA (Correct) Australia - Japan (Correct) Italy - Ghana (Correct - Spot On) Poland - Ecuador (Incorrect) Holland - Serbia (Incorrect) Portugal - Angola (Incorrect) Not bad, not bad. Of course, I have NO idea how this compares to those I'm competing against, but only 3 misses and 2 spot-on matches are pretty good, I'd think. As the matches are done now...as you can see, I got killed this week. 64 points total, 7-9 in my picks. Enough to keep me kicking, but it was a very harsh week. |
