I'm going to tentatively sign up for now. I think I'll play, but I'll probably be quieter than normal.

I'm not sure if the 11 filled spots means the game is full or if you don't have a limit, but I'll play if there is room or sit on the waiting/alternate list if there isn't.

Sweet. I was thinking about sitting out a game or two, but I can't not be a part of this setting. But just so we are clear, I'm not spending pages and pages describing how I am dressed. There are some things that really shouldn't be brought over from the books. |

Please sign me up. There is a good chance though that I won't be able to be on in the evenings, so likely will be more laid back than normal.

my new computer is acting up (same as the old) and I'm having MAJOR life-drama (might quit my job and actually go back to school), so I think I have to pull out last-minute. I won't be in a frame-of-mind to give this game the attention the village deserves.
sorry guys n gals |

thanks lathum. computer problem looks like the same HP power-jack crap, but at least I have the old laptop to use until then. RL-drama= i made a stupid joke at work that didn't even horribly offend the person i said it to, but my boss (who dislikes me) overheard and is hell-bent on calling human resources and documenting it and everything. I don't think it was a horrible enough thing that I said to necessarily get me FIRED, but what it will do is delay my promotion YET AGAIN ("concerns about my maturity/sensitivity) to the point where it's just not really worth sitting around and waiting for, ESPECIALLY because I doubt at this point with this and all the other drama with my boss disliking me (and it not really being a good sign of leadership to look like you're "avoiding a challenge/unpleasant circumstance) that they will transfer me as an assistant manager to a new store. So I might as well throw my resume up on Monster.com just for kicks, and demote myself (so i can escape devil-boss) and start looking at Grad Schools. So yeah. Fuck me very much today. Happy motherfucking New Year |

lol. dude don't take this the wrong way or anything, but you're adorable. that is what EVERYONE has said to me. Literally. EVERYONE. This one kid who I've known a couple years goes "Andy...you've been talking about going to grad school since I met you two years ago!" And this girl I just met two months ago goes "You've been saying that since the day you met me. It's all you say...just go and do it." I've said this a bunch today, so I'll just summarize. I guess I'm just...scared of going that's all. What if I apply a bunch of places and don't get in? What if I can't handle the workload and I flame out? What if I can't make it happen financially? But yeah, I need to go to Grad School cronin, you're right. just need to decide on what period of time (going for classics would prolly require significant preperatory work but would be awesome whereas going for American history would require less preperatory work, would be as awesome, but would be more crowded), and find the right program and funding. I am starting my masters in 2 weeks. I am so nervous and excited! Thank goodness for Fafsa to pay my way for me too. My school this semester cost 2k and the governemnt is giving me 8k. that is 6k to pay off my undergrad loans or pay for the next 3 semesters.

I'm sure this depends on the school and the area of study, but I didn't find my Masters program (MBA - finished 2 weeks ago) to be particularly tough. It definitely takes a lot of time and money, but the work is very doable.

I'm a thesis short of my MA in European History, and I found my graduate work to be so easy it was pathetic. I had a much more difficult time with my undergrad (both at the same university with the same professors). Like st.cronin said, it all comes down to the effort.

well thanks for the words of encouragement guys and gals.
the area that has me more...befuddled than anything else is the financial aspect, so i may definately be calling on you all's aid with regards to navigating that process. |

The financial aspect can be confusing. My wife and I both did the MBA program together, and we had to do a bunch of calculations before we started to decide how to pay for it. It turned out in our case that the student loan rates we could have gotten were not very attractive so we talked out bank into giving us a bunch of promotion credit checks so we could basically pay for the classes with credit cards with a 6-month rate of 3%. We then threw all possible money at the credit card bills to get that paid off before the real interest rates kicked in. Tuition reimbursement from her company helped quite a bit too. Be prepared to do lots of calculations and you will hopefully find a financial plan that works for you. Also pay attention to education deductions you can claim on your taxes. |

Everybody please double check that your name is on the list if you have signed up. Signups are still open, but will close tonight. This is my plan right now:
Pms will be sent out late tonight. The game will start with Night 0 which will close when all actions are in. Day 1 will begin at that time, hopefully sometime tomorrow AM. |

BTW DT, if you feel so strongly about going to school, by all means do it. Do it now that you're young with no commitments because it gets more difficult as you hook up with someone, have kids, etc.
I have faith that you will be successful, gluck and don't worry about your job. I've had over 30 jobs in my lifetime (lots of temp work). Things ALWAYS happen for a reason and this situation with your boss might actually be the final straw in pushing you into going to school. |
