So I guess no one wants to fire Tom Izzo for being too tough this week? Not you specifically but the small but vocal minority in Lansing.
Nice win for the Spartans though.

Oh well, losing at MSU is nothing to be embarrassed about (although not making a FG for the last 7+ minutes is). I figured that going into this game, the Badgers could probably lose twice (as long as only one is to OSU) and still get the top seed in the Midwest. The #1 ranking was nice to get, but I don't know how many people honestly thought the Badgers would sweep MSU and OSU on the road this week. If they lose Sunday, they'll likely have to win the Big 10 tourney to get a 1 seed.

Just a quick point of info here. Because the big 10 title game happens just before the committee reveals it's bracket that game doesn't factor into the bracket unless it involves a team that would otherwise not make the field. You see it would just be too difficult for the committee to make two slightly different brackets depending on who won that game so they just ignore it. I thought you would remember that crap as it was UW that got screwed by that just a few years ago.

It pains me to say that this could be the win to put MSU over the top and into the tourney. Ugh.

What's with the crowd storming the court? I thought the MSU program was better than that? It's not like they are Middle Michigan Tech Central State beating Wisconsin. Give me a break.

The Spartans will get their asses handed to them at the Kohl Center.

I'll defend my little brothers. It was a big win. This is not a very good Michigan State team and they just beat the #1 ranked team in the nation, something they haven't done since Magic Johnson won the NCAA Championship so may years ago. Besides, it's college sports. College sports is all about emotion and stuff like that. Folks have stormed the court/field for less. Just be thankful no couches were burned or cars flipped. Well done, Sparty. Sparty On!!

I am not sure why the kids storming the court last night bothered some people so much. After seeing the tears in Izzo's eyes after the game, something tells me that this was not run of the mill victory for that program.

Don't be too sure about that. IMO the badgers played very well in that game including some amazing shooting from 3. I agree that the badgers will be favored and I expect them to win but I wouldn't expect a blowout; not with the defense MSU plays. Quote:
I think I might disagree with this as well. They are an extremely thin team that needs everyone to be healthy which they finally are. Their RPI is up to 26. Sagarin's predictor, which I trust very much, has them at 19. Their worst loss was with without their 2nd leading scorer @Iowa (rpi 84). If a last second three goes in @OSU everyone is talking about them right now. They play very strong D and have excellent gaurd play which is essential come tourney time. Are they as good as they were in the past, no. But I wouldn't want to see them as a #7-10 see if I was a #1 or #2. I guess it depends on what your definition of very good is. I'm sure Michigan/Minnesota/Iowa/Purdue/Penn state/Illinois/Northwestern fans would consider a year like this a sucess. |

Well, depending on how things go, the late game might not make it impossible to determine the bracket at the last moment. It could simply be a matter of putting OSU and Wisconsin into a #1 and #2 seed, with the tourney winner getting the #1 in the Midwest. OSU would play in Lexington, and the Badgers in Chicago no matter what. A few years ago, the UW / Ill game was between teams fighting for 5 and 6 seeds, so I don't think it was as big of a deal. If the result makes a difference in a #1 seed, I think the committee would be ready for either. |

As an Illinois fan, my response is "Um, no". And if you check out any Illinois message board I think you would see that there are very few Illinois fans who are happy with the 20 win, 8-6 in the Big Ten mark that the current team has compiled. OK, Sparty threadjack over. Very nice win for them last night. They got handed a very tough Big Ten schedule this year and seem to be turning it on at the right point in the season. Doesn't surprise me at all with Izzo at the helm - really think he is a terrific coach and doesn't get enough credit nationally for what he has done with the program during his tenure. |

Wow, I had no idea that the Illini fans had higher hopes than that coming into this season after the losses of Brown and Augustine. Now you have me curious, what were you expected from your pretty young team?

You are right. The game won't be a blowout. Bucky doesn't really blow out anybody that's decent. My earlier comments were simply the Badger fan in me talking shit. |

They'll be in the NCAAs while U-M is in the NIT getting bounced by Buttlicker Tech in the first round. So yeah, I think I can live with one loss, especially considering the fact that Neitzel was so sick he was on an IV before and after the game, and could barely breathe. |

The first round? Come on, Sparty! U-M was in the finals last year and WON the NIT in 2004, thank you very much! U-M PWNS the NIT! Oh, so an undersized, bald-headed guy gets a case of the sniffles and the Spartans get blown out? I see. . . Did Tom Izzo cry again after this game? Hopefully U-M will pull out the upset of the century and Saturday and slip into the NCAA tournament and start making some noise, Cinderella-style. SPARTY ON!!!

Well Michigan State is not exactly the sisters of the poor either. Izzo and Ryan always have their teams ready to play regardless of what they are ranked. As a Badgers fan, I thought the Spartans played an excellent game and put themselves in a position to win just as the Badgers did in Ohio State last Sunday. -Cork |
