PING: OOTP Players From Georgia

FYI, I've created a league structure (and saved it as a template) that includes a 2-league/8-division high school association. I've populated that association with four teams from each Region in AAAAA and AAAA. (I just picked out the four from each. If someone wants to re-configure this puppy to include all of 'em, more power to you!) Anyway, I don't know what kind of time I'll have between now and the release to improve on it, but for now, it's a pretty fun way to see players coming through the ranks of familiar high schools and colleges, if nothing else.

WHAT IT HAS NOW
  • 16 Regions, divided into two leagues, representing AAAAA and AAAA
  • 4 teams from each region
  • Team Names and Nicknames (ex: "Tucker High School Tigers")
  • Player ages from 14 to 19
  • Also includes 66-Team NCAA League, and 24-team structure from Rookie Ball up to MLB.
WHAT IT DOES NOT HAVE NOW
  • Team Logos
  • Team Colors
I don't really see myself actually looking at the high school teams much myself other than at draft time, so I doubt I'd take the time to grab the logos and colors for all 64 teams, but if someone does want to do that research, I might be able to stick 'em in.

Any interest in this?

Hey, there is my highschool Lassiter. I honestly have no clue how they do these days.. back when I played though we made it pretty far into the playoffs every year. (Even though our rival Sprayberry seemed to always have our number)

Lassiter was last year's Class AAAAA state champ in baseball, their first title since 1999 (in AAAA). Sprayberry's last state title was 1995.

So, where's the squads from Stone Mountain? Don't live there yet, but the new misses and myself will be there in June.

Stone Mountain HS is in the same Region with Tucker, Marist, St. Pius and Lakeside. They would have been fifth on my list, and if I ever expand to more teams per division, they'd be the next one from that Region in.

FYI, Stephenson and Redan are both in the Stone Mountain area as well.

Paidea and Grady are A and AA, I think. Berkmar and Woodward just got bumped by other schools in their regions. FYI, the feeder leagues don't have to have all divisions the same sizes. I just did it that way 'cause creating 64 teams was my limit, and combined with the 66 college teams was enough to make it so that the players who come through the HS and college ranks would be enough to fully populate my league.

In setup options, a league can max at:
  • 2 "Sub-Leagues" (such as AL and NL)
  • 50 Divisions Per League.
  • 50 Teams Per Division
So, theoretically, you could have 5,000 teams at the major league level, and corresponding minor leagues as well. However, I have a suspicion that performance might suffer a wee bit.

So how customizable is it? How many games per teams, is there a way to integrate the different divisions into a playoff at the end?

I guess what I'm asking, could you (the royal you) do a league for each state, with divisions being the different regions? Is there some kind of prestige rating or size rating you could set, so that theoretically the larger schools would be better?

Basically, would it be possible to set up a league like this, where there are 30 regions (obviously, some states would be more difficult, where there may have to be multiple leagues and sub-leagues)? That would make things very interesting, imo (though probably kill sim speed). Imagine something like that for all US high schools, all US colleges, then the majors and minors. That would be sick. http://www.schsl.org/2005/2006-08%20Realignment.htm

Also, do high school players who wouldn't be drafted go up to play in college, or do they just kind of disappear?

Divisions within a league, yes. Not sure if you can play cross-league championships.

No. The feeder leagues aren't really meant to replicate high school/college ball at that detailed of a level, at least not with OOTP2007. I'd imagine that since people's appetites are now whet for it, such a thing will be pushed for in OOTP2008.

You can only have two sub-leagues, but you *could* do that by setting those up as five different leagues, each with the appropriate number of divisions, to mimic the Regions.

I'm pretty sure they just disappear. As I said earlier, I think this is the sort of the thing that the community will push for in OOTP2008.

I guess we've got to start somewhere with it in 1 version, or else we'd wait forever for it. Still sounds interesting though.

Question on using the High School feeder system and historical players. Do real life players ceom from this system or do they just show up in the draft pool......Thinking about the setup this would probably only be a feature you would want to use with fictional Leagues I imagine...

Thanks for the info. I think we'll be in Stephenson's area.

Off topic, but which schools out that way are good in basketball?

If you like high school basketball, you've moved to the right area, my friend. Tucker defeated Columbia for the state championship on Friday night, breaking Columbia's 50something game winning streak against Georgia schools. You're about halfway between those two schools, and neither is more than 15 minutes away. It's a basketball/football hotbed community. Within 25 minutes of you, there will be more prospects on the court and the gridiron than you'll have time to see in person.

Tucker won the Class AAAA state title over the weekend, beating fellow region 6 member Columbia in the championship game. Stone Mountain made it to the quarterfinals but were eliminated by Tucker. In other words, 3 of the final 8 were from the same region.

edit to add: SkyDog obviously beat me to it. Although neither of us mentioned (yet) that the girls AAAA champion was also from that region, as St Pius beat Marist in the title game, and Pius had elminated Mays (another region 6 team) in the quarterfinals.

Dola:

And another nice thing is that they play the state basketball championship game for the two largest classifications at the Gwinnett arena, which is no more than 30ish minutes from the Stephenson area.

Well, since we've already veered into this territory (as was inevitable in this thread I think) ... what's the backstory on Ballard taking the Peachtree Ridge football job? More $$$ ? Talent trending down at Tucker in the next few years? Something else?

Well, I'm really looking forward to catching some games when I get there. If I have time, with which a new wife and possibly 2 kids around, it may be hard to do, I may even look into coaching basketball, either YMCA, high school, or something.
