Time for a new TV
Well i was playing PS 2 today and my TV went crazy. Now the picture is all purplish and i can't do much about it. I figure it's time for a new TV. The one i have now is several years old and is a Zenith. 27 inches or right around there.
Now, i'm looking for something very similar and i don't want to spend lots of money. 27 inches or a little bigger would be perfect. Any suggestions? Should i go with another Zenith? The one i had serverd me great... thanks |

I think it's a law that when your TV breaks you have to replace it with a bigger one. Upgrade to a 29" or 32". You will be gald you did.

Do yourself a favor, dont buy a Zenith or GE.
That is all.

Is anyone familiar with Apex? I have their DVD player and, while not uber alles by any means, it is usable and, more importantly, in my budget range. Our local Sav-On has their 20-inch TV for $99 and I was looking at that.

I recently bought a Sony 27 Incher. It's great. JVC is great too. As is Toshiba.
I'm pretty sure Zenith has shied away from the 27 in. market. I believe they are into the high-end TVs now. Even if there are small Zenith's, my guess is they are third-party. Zenith's high-end (plasma and flats) are supposed to be good. That's the ticket. Lots of the TV makers are focusing on the high-end, leaving the lesser companies to make stuff on the lower end. But Sony, JVC and Toshiba still are focusing heavily on their lower end models. |

What's wrong with those brands? I have neither, just curious so I know what (not to) look for.

For some reason, it seems that 27" is the price threshold. A nice 27" will cost you somewhere around $250, but adding that extra couple inches appears to increase the price exponentially.

That is strange isn't it. I've noticed the same thing. After 27" prices double. |

I bought a 27" Sony Wega when I purchased my ps2 awhile back and I love it. Hooked it up with monster component cables and the picture looks excellent.
It was an open box special at Best Buy. Check them out, I think you'll like the picture quality. We have 3- 27" TV's at home and we all argue on who gets to watch the Wega. Last edited by MizzouRah : 05-30-2003 at 08:38 AM. |

I would go for a Toshiba or JVC TV. When last I looked (2 years agp?) they seemed to have the best combo of quality and price in the 27-32" range. Specifically the Toshiba Cinema Series and whatever comparable model JVC makes. I was never much for Sony stuff personally. Last edited by Daimyo : 05-30-2003 at 04:36 PM. |

I too am a Sony Wega fan. My last four TVs have been Wegas. Right now in Italy I've got the 32 inch 16X9 model, mainly because it supports PAL and NTSC. Xbox looks great on it, and so do DVDs. They are a bit pricey, but completely worth it, IMO. YMMV, UDA.

I bought my Dad's 36" WEGA TV from him a few months ago, and it's great. I'm just waiting to move into our new house with the HDTV antenna.

Lemme add my chorus to the fans of the Wega. 27" here. Great TV, all the more surprising since the PS2 hardware is absolute crap. Why can't the people who make the TVs do the PS2 hardware too?

Welcome to the family! I'm glad you like it. Did you get some component cables for your ps2? The picture quality is head and shoulders above your normal hookup, not to mention watching a DVD. The only thing is you have to have a stereo reciever that has an optical sound cable hookup. If not, at least go with s-video. Todd |
