FOFC Poet-in-Residence Wins Book Prize
Since I'll be letting the cat out of the bag tomorrow night anyway with my FTB answers, I wanted to let everyone know some news that I've been keeping under wraps.
My first collection of poetry, Lucktown, has been named the winner of the National Poetry Review Book Prize, and will be published in late June. The manuscript was a finalist for the T.S Eliot Prize for Poetry, an honorable mention in the Stevens Manuscript Competition, and a semi-finalist in for the Elixir Press Poetry Award. Many of the poems have been published or are forthcoming in journals including the New Orleans Review, Crazyhorse, Poetry International, and The Midwest Quarterly, as well as online via Blackbird and Verse Daily. Lucktown will be available online via Amazon and other booksellers, as well as through the publisher's website. I will also be doing several readings throughout the country this fall, so perhaps I will get a chance to meet some of you in person. As the release date approaches, I will post further information. In the meantime, if you are interested in reading more about me or my work, please visit my website at www.losttimepoetry.com. I want to thank the members of the community who have been supportive of me and my work throughout these many years -- I've been working on some of the poems in this collection since my earliest days here, and several of you have offered kind words and friendship. It's meant a lot, and I'm glad to be able to share this news with everyone. Thanks. And to tide folks over until tomorrow night, if you would like to read the title poem from the collection, you can do so here: Lucktown |

Very cool! One thing that's great about this board is watching how folks have grown into themselves while on here.

Schmidty..do you ever respond to your own poems with critical counter-poems?

Nope. I am a cowardly poet now. I had some poems published in the mid-late '90s, but since then, I have only shared my works with friends, family and fellow writers. I guess it's a self-purity/preservation thing, if that makes any sense. I think people like NM are very commendable in their ability to expose themselves and their work. It's not something I feel capable of at this point in my life anymore. I almost feel like the WWW has ruined some of my understanding/feel of the intimacy of sharing writing. There has always been criticism (good and bad), but that same criticism is so much more swift and ubiquitous, that I am extremely apprehensive to expose myself to it. Anyway, this isn't about me. This is a thread that should be celebrating a great wordsmith. |
