FF - Auction Keeper league - any interest?

I've always wanted to get into one of these leagues. A co-worker is in a league that has been together for 12 years!!

For $ or Free?

I'd be interested if it was a $ league. My football keeper league died after 5 years. Sucks too since I had LT, Gore and Maroney as my backs this year.

My auction NL only keeper baseball league just entered something like it's 23rd year. (9th for me)

I would think it should be a pay league to keep people's interest. How my co-worker's league works is they paid for two years of league fees their initial year so that way they are always 1 year ahead of payment. That way if someone does not want to play/join then he'll lose his money for the upcoming year.

I could probably get a couple people to join but I know I wouldn't be able to get a full league. That is why I figured I would come on here to see if there is any interest...

I'd love to join something like this. I've never been in a keeper league so it would be a little new to me but it's something I've always wanted to do.

Let me start looking at some rules for an auction keeper league.

For the ones that are interested - what kind of league fee are we looking at? We could keep it low - like $30-$50 for the year.

I'd like to do a keeper league, but I don't have the cash for a pay league

A rule I have seen and like is every player you keep (lets say we cap it at 4) their salary goes up 10%. So lets say you bought Addai for $20 in the auction then his salary for the next year if you keep him would be $22.

What site is best to use for keepers? Only site I use for FF is CBS Sportsline's.

My old league, the year after you draft them, you decided if you wanted to long term contract them. If so, their contract would be +3 $ in year 2, +4 in year 3 and +5 in year 4 then they were a FA. Should be some type of year cap on how long you could keep them though. (3 years is a pretty good range for football. For baseball, we use 6 years which is too long.)

For entrance fee, depends on if you are going to have transaction fees or not. $30-50 is a good range. ($30 if transaction fees are involved, $50 if not). I'm fine upwards up to $100 but, alot of people balk at that.

Oh and we used AOL last year. Actually was pretty decent and free. You could customize it alot for your league's scoring and they had contracts w/years in there.

I'm liking that ideal... I am looking at AOL now - so does it keep track of the contracts?

The only problem having league league fee so low is I dont' think it would keep peoples interest... just my opinion

You can put in the contract value and also the year the contract ends. I'm not sure if the system will automatically drop this where the contract expires though as we only used it one year but, in looking at the league right now, doesn't appear that I see this option.

One thing though on the long term contracts, if you do that, it is best to have some type of 'penalty'. For us, it was a fee where if they had 3 years left it was $12, 2 years left $9 and 1 year left $5... just so people actually had think about what they are doing and not just long term everyone. If you don't have transaction fees, could just be a hit against the cap for next year if you drop them.

I am good for up to $50 but am OK with $20 also.

As for rules I think it's best to keep it basic and I would like to see at least 10 teams.

Don't count me in. I just want to put my input on how my league functions.

My keeper auction league is going on its 13th year. And it's completely manually done - scoring, transactions, etc. We all get together one full day to draft at one owner's house. I'm not sure if our particular structure CAN be supported by any online service.

In my league, all contracts are one-season long. At the end of the year, you may mark one player as your franchise player (FP), and up to four players as restricted free agents (RFA). This is determined beforehand, so everyone can plan their strategy on draft day.

The FPs are kept for the new season at the greater of: 10% of the prior year's salary or the average of the top 5 salaries in their respective position.

Here's the meat and potatoes of our auction: The RFAs. Each RFA name is pulled out of a hat with their prior year's salary. A silent auction is made, with the starting bid at last year's salary +1. Highest bidder is awarded the player UNLESS the original owner exercises his option to keep him at that high bid price. If there is a tie for high bid and original owner does not exercise his option, the RFA will be returned to the draft pool. If there are NO bids for the RFA, original owner chooses to keep him at last year's salary or release him to the draft pool.

Once all RFA names have been pulled from the hat, the regular auction (not silent) resumes with the remaining players in the draft pool.

Well - looks like we have about 7 (including myself) FOFC members interested and I have just one other person for a total of 8 players. I think we need two more to even consider a league. We could keep the league fee to $20 just to get the league going... If anyone else is interested either post or IM me so we can get a draft date set up.

As far as simplicity - I say we have a set cap and just raise the keepers by 10% each year.

Probably need a set # of years though. 10% really isn't that much. Plus, if you have someone drafted at $1 that turns into a stud, could cause an imbalance in the league if you can keep them forever.

My 2 cents.
