#19 Temple (1-0) at #16 Navy (1-0)

Our first game ever on TV1, but yikes what an ugly affair. We were completely slaughtered. Fields laid an egg with a 5 INT performance and Navy whipped us by a 41 point margin. Not much else to really say, but it looks like another long season ahead. I'll look forward to recruiting another QB next season because it's looking like Fields just doesn't have what it takes to get it done.

Final Score: Navy 51, Temple 10

Zach Fields 22-49-272-0-5

Week 3

Central Florida (1-1) at Temple (1-1)

My scout must be way off on the Avoid INT rating for Fields, because this guy keeps throwing them. We were entering the 4th quarter with a 35-18 game and Fields had put up tons of yards to get us there. Unfortunately, he serves up two picks in the 4th quarter that help get Central Florida back in the game. It took a last minute drive and a 21 yard FG from Craig Glover to give us the victory.

Final Score: Temple 41, Central Florida 39

Zach Fields 33-49-559-4-4 (87-144-1276-8-10)

Week 4

Temple (2-1) at South Florida (0-1)

Great start to this one asless than a minute in, Zach Fields finds Dana butler for a 74 yard TD pass. 42 seconds later, Fields throws another TD pass to RB Rich Shantz. After a safety, Fields throws one more TD pass for a 23-0 1st quarter lead. South Florida had trouble moving the ball and turned it over quite a bit. They also had no clue how to cover Dana Butler, who turned in the best performance of his career with 244 yards and 3 TD's. Unfortunately, Fields was benched by the start of the 4th quarter when the score was 51-10.

Final Score: Temple 58, South Florida 13

Week 5

Pittsburgh (0-4) at Temple (3-1)

Didn't get quite as good a start this week. after taking an early 7-0 lead, the offense stalled and winless Pitt scored 17 straight points to take a 17-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. We were able to tie the score at the half, but still below the standards of what our offense can do. Thankfully, Fields got hot, throwing TD passes on 3 consecutive 3rd quarter drives to blow the game wide open.

Final Score: Temple 52, Pittsburgh 24

Zach Fields 36-49-470-5-1 (152-231-2239-20-12)

Temple (4-1) at #11 Notre Dame (4-1)

Well, we either win them big or lose them big, and this was a case of the latter. Fields struggled in the 1st quarter and the Irish took advantage to build a 21-0 lead. A 31 yard TD pass to Dana Butler cut into the lead, but Notre Dame immediately answered with a 75 yard TD run. Then Fields answered with an 80 yard TD pass to Willie Boland. It was a wild series of scores, but eventually Notre Dame slowed things down with solid drives and Fields just could not keep up any longer. Notre Dame put up 592 total yards and held the ball for 39:59.

Final Score: Notre Dame 65, Temple 21

Zach Fields 16-42-347-3-1 (168-273-2586-23-13)

I made some adjustments to the passing distances this week and it sure did wonders for Fields. Despite the slow start, he coolly led us on several impressive scoring drives and we pulled away for an easy victory. The revamped passing game did wonders not only for Fields, but also for Butler and Boland, who had excellent days.

Final Score: Temple 35, Connecticut 7

Zach Fields 35-53-486-4-1 (203-326-3072-27-14)
Dana Butler 11-160-1 (53-880-7)

Fields did what he could in this one, but a tough Syracuse defense held him in check for the most part and our defense got torn apart. We did lead 14-7 early, but Syracuse then outscored us 41-7 over the next 2 quarters to blow the game open. Butler had another great day and is over 1000 yards with three (possibly four) games to go.

Our insane schedule continues, with our 2nd consecutive game against an undefeated top 10 team. Despite flirting with competitiveness early on, thanks to another superb game from Dana Butler, we could not get the job done in the 2nd half. A 24-13 halftime score turned into a 59-20 route.

From the start, Dana Butler was determined to make sure he made it to a bowl game in his Senior year. Less than a minute into the game, he got open for a 69 yard TD pass. This was a crazy game. We took a 28-14 lead at the half, but Rutgers came back to make it interesting. With only a 28-24 lead, Fields led us on two scoring drives, the last one a 1 yard TD pass to Butler to give our defense enough of a cushion to hold Rutgers off. Butler had an amazing game, and I now only wish I had used this offense earlier in the season. He could seriously threaten 2000 yards at this point.

Final Score: Temple 45, Rutgers 31

Zach Fields 34-57-531-5-0 (286-481-4296-39-17)
Dana Butler 15-276-3 (92-1506-13)
Walter Welch 7-97-0 (60-953-8)
Willie Boland out with injury.

I decided to purchased TCY 2 weeks ago after following your dynasty thread.
I've been slowly getting better and learning the art of recruiting. larrymcg421 I was wondering how did you export your results, stats and recruiting, ect. As I have had one of my best seasons and would like to export or copy and paste to a word doc my results. I currently don't save game logs but save box scores for my team. When I did save game logs for my team I didn't like where the program saved on my hard drive it kinda just put in everywhere on the c: drive

You should be able to set the path and file name that the game will save to. When you click on print and go to Generic Text in your printer options (do you have this part set up?), just type the path name in the box that should come up. Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks for reading!

Fields starts off brilliantly, throwing 5 first half TD passes to give us a 35-14 lead. Unfortunately, Fields was hurt late in the half and would not be able to return to the game. What a shame as he was int he midst of the best game of his career. Backup John Muirbrook came in and looked terrific, throwing 4 of his own TD passes in the 2nd half as this game turned into an ugly rout. Unfortunately, it looks like Fields will miss the bowl game. Dana Butler had another incredible performance with his third straight 200 yard game. He needs 265 yards in the bowl game for a 2000 yard season.

Final Score: Temple 63, Boston College 35

Zach Fields 23-27-301-5-0 (309-508-4597-44-17)
Dana Butler 16-229-4 (108-1735-17)
Walter Welch 13-162-2 (73-1115-10)

I'm not sure maxing out the passing is the best way to max out passing yards. You're trading more attempts for a lower YPA, and at some point(because the offense doesn't work) you're also bleeding attempts due to shorter drives.

Loading up an old TCY game, my all-time record for passing yards in a season is 641 per game. Granted, that was with a powerhouse program

Belle of the Bowl

Temple (7-4) at Georgia (9-3)

Well, we're moving up in the college football world ever so slightly. This year we've made it to the major Bowl tier. Unfortunately, we look to be completely overmatched against a superior Bulldogs team, especially when starting QB Zach Fields will not be able to play. Backup QB John Muirbrook had an excellent game against Boston College, but this was much different. Less than two minutes into the game, he threw a pick that Georgia returned for a 7-0 lead. Things didn't get any better from there. Muirbrook was benched for walk on scrubs byt he end of the 2nd quarter as Georgia exploded to take a 49-6 halftime lead. It was a pretty ugly game, and even Butler couldn't stand out, only managing 5 catches for 58 yards in his final college game.

Final Score: Georgia 76, Temple 13

John Muirbrook 12-33-136-0-2 (309-508-4597-44-17)
Dana Butler 5-58-0 (113-1793-17)
Walter Welch 1-19-0 (74-1134-10)
Willie Boland 3-40-0 (54-798-9)
Orlando Niles 5-63-1 (53-878-8)

Race to 6000:

Avg. per game: 444.3
Last year Avg.: 397.4

This was our highest output to date, but we're still a long way from the promised land. I'm not too confident about next season's prospects given the thin recruiting classes we've picked

I appreciate the feedback and some of what you say makes sense, but it hasn't really worked out like that for us. The YPA was a problem early on but we've increased that every year and finished this past season 17th in YPA with 8.69. I did adjust the passing yardage a bit and that helped a little.

Also, we're not bleeding attempts (1st in the nation for all but the 1st year of the dynasty), and the offense does seem to work as it was ranked 5th in the nation last year.

Graduating Seniors

WR Dana Butler (#12 Overall, #1 WR)

One of the best players I've ever had in a text sim. This guy caught 90 passes for 1254 yards and 15 TD's as a freshman. Then he got better every single year. He was an unstoppable force that could not be covered. He was a two time first team All-American (and really deserved three) and finished in the top 5 for Heisman voting twice. The final 3 regular season games of his career were amazing. Butler caught 45 passes for 725 yards and 7 TD's over that stretch and singlehandedly willed his team to the postseason. His final career numbers are 415 catches, 5994 yards, and 62 TD's.

Awards: National All-Freshman Team (2009), National Top Offensive Freshman (2009), All-Big East 1st Team (2009), Big East Top Offensive Freshman (2009), Big East Top Offensive Player (2009), All-American 2nd Team (2010), All-Big East 1st Team (2010), All-American 1st Team (2011), All-Big East 1st Team (2011), All-American 1st Team (2012), All-Big East 1st Team (2012), All-Senior Team (2012)

C Jamie Grinnell (#258 Overall, #14 C)

Jamie was a three year starter who improved on a dismal sophomore season (2.5 Sack%) to become a solid starter over the last two years.

G Blaine Badillo (#255 Overall, #23 G)

Blaine had potential, but remained underdeveloped throughout his career and only started 5 games.

G Melvin McGee (#61 Overall, #7 G)

Melvin was a solid 4 year starter with an impressive (for the run n shoot) 1.4 career sack %. Was a Big East All-Academic Guard over the last two seasons.

G Bernard Reid (#143 Overall, #12 G)

Reid was not able to crack the starting lineup until his senior year, but did a good job with a 1.6 Sack %.

T Floyd Sweeney (#155 Overall, #17 T)

Floyd was a 4 year starter at the very difficult LT spot. Despite maxed out ratings, he gave up a ton of sacks (47) over his career.

T Melvin Vaughn (#117 Overall, #13 T)

Also a 4 year starter, Melvin struggled in his sophomore and junior seasons, but had an amazing senior year. Despite participating in 507 pass plays, he only allowed 6 sacks for a 1.1%.

And yep, we just lost all 5 starting offensive linemen. I have a feeling that next year is not going to be pretty.

*We have moved up to 5th in Academic Ranking and top 9 in every single subject.

*Roster Strengths this year: QB (3rd), WR (7th), C (9th), G (60th), T (84th). Yep, Fields is gonna be on his butt quite a bit this season.

*Preseason Rankings have us 48th Overall and 4th in the Big East.

*This will be a crucial recruiting year. Not only do I have to find a new star QB, but depth on the line and at receiver will need to be improved immediately.

Week 1

Wake Forest (0-0) at Temple (0-0)

Well, we sure looked good in Week 1, albeit against a weak team. Fields threw 4 TD passes before Wake Forest could even get on the board at the end of the half. Two more TD passes in the 3rd quarter sealed the game. 7 TD passes marks the terrific opener for Fields, and WR Willie Boland looks like he can fill the shoes of Dana Butler with a stunning Butler-like performance. We did get sacked 4 times and that is cause for concern against better teams.

Final Score: Temple 63, Wake Forest 21

Zach Fields 34-52-498-7-1
Willie Boland 11-224-4
Orlando Niles 9-114-0

Week 2

#15 Temple (1-0) at South Florida (0-0)

This is the type of game I've been waiting for. Fields throws 6 TD passes for a narrow 42-35 score - at the half. Yup, that's the halftime score. The South Florida defense is hopeless. They can't cover any of our receivers and they can't even put pressure on Fields. Meanwhile, their offense loses steam and cannot keep up after the half. Fields would throw 3 more TD passes and the defense would pitch a 2nd half shutout for a nice blowout victory.

Final Score: Temple 77, South Florida 35

Zach Fields 40-58-602-9-1 (74-110-1100-16-2)
Walter Welch 16-210-2 (18-229-2)

Week 3

Navy (2-0) at Temple (2-0)

The early season TCY polls are pretty wacky. We were #15 last week, won by 42 points and promptly dropped from the top 25. Go figure. Maybe they remembered how ugly we looked last year against Navy. It would be different this time around. After a shaky start in which Fields was sacked for a safety, Fields got going once again with 3 1st half TD passes for a 21- halftime lead. Navy went to the ground game in the 2nd half, and this helped them get back in it, and also kept the ball away from Fields for large portions of the 2nd half. We were able to squeak out a narrow victory when Navy missed a 53 yard Fg with 1:52 left.

Final Score: Temple 28, Navy 26

Zach Fields 34-52-440-4-2 (108-162-1540-20-4)

Week 4

Central Florida (0-2) at Temple (3-0)

Fields was bound to struggle at some point, and he couldn't have gotten off to a worse start in this game. His first two plays from scrimmage result in interceptions. His fourth play results in a lost fumble. The Golden Knights convert all of these turnovers into points and held a 30-0 lead with 12:58 left in the 2nd quarter. Fields was able to rally the team with three TD drives int he 2nd quarter and we were suddenly within 10 points. Unfortunately, the 2nd half began much the same, with two INT's and Central Florida began to pull away. Fields kept coming back, but the early hole was too much to overcome.

Final Score: Central Florida 65, Temple 40

Zach Fields 26-52-439-5-5 (134-214-1979-25-9)

Week 5

Temple (3-1) at #4 West Virginia (3-0)

Another rough outing for Fields. As I predicted, pass protection would be problematic this year and Fields was sacked 6 times in this game. This led to 3 INT's, which were enough to slow the offense down as West Virginia 394 rushing yards on our defense.

Final Score: West Virginia 55, Temple 10

Zach Fields 28-52-315-1-3 (162-266-2294-26-12)
Walter Welch 6-69-0 (39-527-2)

Notre Dame (3-2) at Temple (3-2)

Very bad news. Not only did Notre Dame pound us as usual, but WR Willie Boland will likely miss the rest of the season due to torn knee cartilage. Fields had another weak game, and the yardage is really tailing off after a great start.

Final Score: Notre Dame 63, Temple 21

Some good news amidst all of this. We have landed our next QB star. Darrin Bordelon of Necedah, WI is the #4 QB in the country and has agreed to come play for us. On top of that, we also landed him a great target in Winston Whalen, the #6 WR in the country. Now if I can just get them some help on the line.
