Lions Millen Era Dynasty Redo

Well it is time to rewrite history. The poll is complete and I have decided to go with the "From the 2000 season" to see if history would turn out different with myself as the GM.

Now, I know it is a little unfair, since I have watched the NFL for the last 8 years and know who are the stars and who havent lived up to their expectations. So to combat this, I will use the action points from another thread to keep me in check. Also with the X factor, players sometimes turn out different.

First a little history of DetroitDrillSGT.

I was born and raised in Berkley, Michigan. All of my life I have been a die hard Detroit Sports Fan. From Hockey, Football, Baseball, Basketball, and U of M.
I enlisted in the Army in 1989 and I coming very close to retirement. I have been playing FOF for about 10 years, mostly SP. I have played in MP leagues but find them too slow for me. I usually sim through about 3-8 seasons per sitting.
Currently live in Maryland with my beautiful wife and three awesome kids (who often refer to FOF as "The Clicky Game".

So again, I will use action points, start with the 2000 season, and use the draft files that were made (you guys who done this are truely studs, and its an honor to use them).

Preseason

So, William Clay Ford decides to go with the home town hero, DetroitDrillSGT, as the new GM over the hyped up Matt Millen. This raises the interest from the league and has the sportscasters going nuts, "An unknown Army Guy over an established football guy???, what's he thinking...."

So I pick up the reigns and set out to make history. First there are 59 players on the roster right now, most of which are slackers. I intend to cut deadweight and free up cap room.

Here is the team:

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Batch, Charlie QB 3 24 39 3
Case, Stoney QB 6 22 22 1

I need another QB. I search for a FA QB and come up with:

MacKay, Darrell QB R 8 40 1 1y/240k

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Stewart, James RB 6 39 39 3
Bates, Mario RB 7 31 31 1
Irvin, Sedrick RB 2 20 27 1
Schlesinger, Cory FB 6 41 41 6
Olivo, Brock FB 3 13 17 2

As far as the backfield is concerned, it has been dead since Barry retired. Stewart hasnt panned out as hoped, although right now Stewart with Bates and Sledge looks pretty good. Stewart looks like he has some pretty good hands out of the backfield and Bates looks impressive as a returner.
Cut: Irvin - was not looking too promising.
Inactive: Olivo - save him for a rainy day.

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Sloan, David TE 6 56 56 2
Pupunu, Alfred TE 9 50 50 1
Rasby, Walter TE 7 44 44 1
Moore, Herman FL 10 63 68 2
Howard, Desmond FL 9 44 44 3
Crowell, Germane FL 3 30 43 3
Stablein, Brian FL 8 22 22 1
Morton, Johnnie SE 7 57 57 2
Foster, Larry SE 1 12 33 3

TE is pretty deep right now. Sloan is the receiver, Rasby is the blocker, and Pupunu is the all around guy. Rasby's contract is a little steep right now at almost 2m for this season.
As far as the receivers, the combo of Moore and Morton looks lethal. Along with Howards speed and returning ability and the youngster Crowell, we look pretty good.
CUT: Stablein - only offers skills during punt returns which is already covered. Also frees up almost 3m this season.

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Hartings, Jeff C 5 74 74 1
Beverly, Eric C 3 26 39 4
Compton, Mike LG 8 42 42 1
Semple, Tony RG 7 19 25 3
Blaise, Kerlin RG 2 2 11 4
Atkins, James LT 7 60 60 1
Roberts, Ray LT 9 25 25 1
McDougle, Stockar RT 1 25 72 5
Brooks, Barrett RT 6 28 28 2
Gibson, Aaron RT 2 10 22 2

Studs are Hartings and the rook McDougle. Atkins looks pretty tough on the left, but definatly need to start looking for a replacement in the draft soon. Maybe by then, McDougle will be ready to switch to LT. Gibson is looking too fat coming into the season at almost 400lbs.
Resign: Hartings-2y/2.4m, Atkins-3y/4.9m

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Porcher, Robert LDE 9 72 72 4
Aldridge, Allen LDE 7 66 66 2
Scroggins, Tracy RDE 9 58 58 2
Hall, James RDE 1 24 45 7
De Vries, Jared RDE 2 21 41 7
Pritchett, Kelvin LDT 10 53 53 7
Jones, James LDT 10 35 35 1
Boone, Alfonso LDT 1 12 30 1
Elliss, Luther RDT 6 73 73 4
Kirschke, Travis RDT 4 32 36 3

Studs are Porcher, Aldridge, and Elliss. The rook Hall looks very promising also. Again, starters are getting up there in age, something to think about.

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Boyd, Stephen MLB 6 48 48 2
Jordan, Richard MLB 4 22 26 3
Kriewaldt, Clint SILB 2 18 36 3
Claiborne, Chris SLB 2 22 43 3
O'Neill, Kevin SLB 3 19 28 1
Green, Barrett WLB 1 13 49 4
Kowalkowski, ScottWLB 10 47 47 2

Boyd has the middle locked down, he has learned well from his mentor, Spielman. The new guys Claiborne and Green look pretty good.
CUT: O'Neill

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Walker, Darnell LCB 8 50 50 1
Wyrick, Jimmy LCB 1 12 45 3
Westbrook, Bryant LCB 4 22 32 2
Lincoln, Jeremy RCB 9 47 47 1
Fair, Terry RCB 3 28 44 2
Walker, Marques RCB 5 34 34 1
Supernaw, Kywin FS 13 34 34 1
Schultz, Kurt SS 9 63 68 2
Brown, Corwin SS 8 42 42 1
Rice, Ron SS 5 33 33 2
Campbell, Lamar SS 3 13 24 3
Stewart, Ryan SS 5 20 20 1

CUT: Walker-too expensive. Stewart-Dead Man Walking. Supernaw-time to retire.
Inactive: Campbell

Player Pos Exp Current Future Cnt
Stanley, Chad P 2 43 59 1
Jett, John P 8 50 50 4
Araguz, Leo P 5 45 45 3
Hanson, Jason K 9 64 64 7

CUT: Stanley, Araguz.

Preseason WK 1:

CIN 14
DET 38

Strong preseason game.

The new QB was impressive:

Darrell MacKay 19 16 183 2TD 0INT 141.9

The Defense came up big:

DE Scroggins had a career game including 3 sacks, and a Fumble recovery for a TD. S Corwin Brown had 2 picks.

WK 2

DET 34
CLE 17

Both QB are in a good race for the starting spot.

Charlie Batch 19 13 224 2TD 0INT 143.3
Darrell MacKay 9 6 116 2TD 0INT 149.3

Morton and Moore had big days receiving.

WK 3

DET 28
IND 14

Competition still looks close.

Charlie Batch 16 10 106 2TD 1INT 95.3
Darrell MacKay 14 9 124 1TD 1INT 86.6

WK 4

BUF 16
DET 3

Dominated by Buffalo. MacKay had a rough one also. I have a tough decision to make about a starting QB.

Darrell MacKay 32 14 125 0TD 4INT 15.2
Charlie Batch 12 9 96 0TD 1INT 63.2
