Figured you all should know. . .

The end of the world may be happening soon. I asked a lovely girl to marry me. And she said yes.

March 7 of next year I'll be walking down the aisle.

Actually, isn't it considered bad luck to give knives as a gift (in general, not just weddings)? My mom said something to me about that when she gave me a set of nice chef's knives for one of my birthdays...

Your mother gave you knives and then said that it was bad luck? Am I the only one who senses something wrong here?

Thanks everyone.

She wants to get married in the Catholic church. That means a 9 month wait. I'm not Catholic, but it's important to her. That means the earliest we could wed will be December.

As for the proposal, I recreated the 45 minutes before our first date. That included mundane things like picking up a card in a grocery store, killing time in Best Buy and driving to her house. She was getting agravated wondering why we were doing all of this idiotic time killing when we could be doing something else. When I got to her house I told her that I had no idea during the 45 minutes I was killing time before our first date that this would be the women I'd want to spend the rest of my life with. I then popped the question.

Ditto. That is very clever. I recreated the first dinner I cooked for her, but that seems so mundane looking back. I've never heard of anyone doing the before date ritual like that before.

Awww, that is so sweet! I bet she felt like a pill for being aggravated once you proposed

My fiancee proposed after we did the walkthrough on our new apt. We'd gone through and made some notes and were going to walk back to the office...I walked out the door and realized he wasn't behind me, so I went back in and he was just standing there and I said "well, are you coming", and he said there was something he wanted to do. So I put my hand on hip and said "what?"...when he didn't answer I got kind of impatient and said it again, then he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring...I felt like an idiot but said yes anyway

My entire idea was to aggravate her to a degree. I knew she'd wonder why we were doing all kinds of things that semed pointless. She was especially thrilled when I stood in the video game section for 15 minutes. (she doesn't mind video games at all and actually likes some herself, but her idea of a good time isn't sitting at a video game rack at Best Buy)

I also wanted it to be a complete surprise. She never saw the proposal coming.

I wanted to do something unique. (and I didn't have the programming abilities of the guy in the linked story above) I read online sites for ideas, looked at books, and asked friends. The idea came to me one day at a grocery store.

We are thinking about a cruise for the honeymoon. Anyone have any ideas for the best spots?

We are boarding a cruise Monday, heading to Cozumel and Calica, I'll let you know how it was when we get back Got a great deal on it btw, Carnival lines, 5 nights for less than $400 a person, and our agent got us upgraded about 4 levels so we have a kickass room too

A cruise through the Hawaiian islands is a lot of fun. If you want to stay in the Caribbean, St. Thomas, Dominica, and Curacao are my favorites. Also, you can get a cruise that departs from Puerto Rico and go there a couple of days early to see the sights on that island.

Whatever you do, make sure to get a room with a view or balcony. It's well worth the extra expense.
