Signs you're not a teenager anymore

I played in a two day 3v3 soccer competition at the weekend, we were meant to play at the 'adult recreational' level but they didn't have enough teams for that competition so we got lumpted into the competitive bracket where all the youngsters play.

Two days and six matches later, after running around after 18-20 year old kids and I'm a wreck this morning, my body aches - how my arms ache I have no idea after all its 'football' ....

PS> We lost every match - some worse than others, I knew it was going to be 'rough' when I realised that several of the teams we played travelled halfway across florida to play in the tournament (kinda guessed they might be taking it a tad seriously at that point ).
It WAS a good laugh though and has increased my desire to improve my fitness level further.

Oh, it gets better the older you get. For instance, I love waking up in the morning feeling hung over, but, I didn't drink the night before.

Hearing my wife say "I hate f'n teenagers!" when we come up on a group of them pretty much reminds me every time.

Then we walk another 15 feet and I have a hard time remembering I am not a teen when I see the 16 year old girl with the great set of cans hanging most the way out. (Stop looking, jail, prison, bad things, baaaaaad things, it just isn't right...).

I've found (since I was around 25) that if I lie in bed for too long (anything past 8.30am) then I feel like s*it ... not entirely sure why but it does help me get out of bed promptly which I suppose is a good thing, still I am somewhat jealous of my daughter (14) who doesn't surface until around mid-day during the holidays .... unless she's kicked

Oh crap you have a 14 year old. I am sorry about my previous comment on 16 year olds. I was pointing out how it is wrong though, not that I enjoy it. I have an 8 year old daughter and she will never go to a movie theater without me, and wearing sweaters, big baggy sweaters.

Marc, I feel your pain... literally! Last night was a Parent vs Player scrimmage for my son's Street Hockey team. I woke up today with a reminder of certain back muscles I haven't used in a few years.

Haha. My wife has to do that to me. I'm a sleeper, so waking up around noon is easy for me. Though if I do sleep too long, I do feel like crap for most of the day.

Yes but one nice thing about not being a teenager is that I can sit here on my computer and legally drink a Smithwicks...

By my count, I would guess at least ten. Seems the running average.

Towards the end of the games standard tactic was hoof it towards goal from anywhere because we were knackered* and it was 95 degrees out there ....

I scored three goals (spread across the 6 games) - bear in mind that I'm naturally a defender and up until I moved to Florida and started playing 3v3 hadn't scored a goal in around 7 years ... so shooting isn't the most natural thing in the world for me

*Not only were we older (by a multiple of 2 in some cases) and less fit than the opposition, but to add insult to injury we were also a man down - teams were meant to have 6 players to rotate but because of an absence we only had 5.

My summer ultimate frisbee league started up last week. I'm on the team with another guy I know well. We're probably the only ones over 30, and the rest of our team is young, experienced, but physically fit.

So I said to him: "Here's the plan: you & I do the bulk of the handling, and we send these kids long."

Worked like a charm, in that we won 13-7. We'll see what happens this week.

Our ac is out and it's high 90's outside, so we got a standalone ac thing. Apparently it's been blowing cold air on my back all night, now I cant sit or stand straight without pain, so I'm all hunched up.

That's a sign I'm no longer a teenager. I'm a hobbled old man.

The worst part of getting old (I turn 38 on Sunday) is that your injuries don't heal like they used to. I've had a bum shoulder for 2 years now that isn't bad enough for surgery, but refuses to heal on its own. It has kept me keeps from playing hoops all this time. At some point i think i'm just going to start playing again and deal with the pain. I love cycling, but I need team sports in my life.

I'm in a similar position on my frisbee team this year. We only have about 4 or 5 people returning from last year, and somehow all of the new recruits are freaks of nature athletically and fitness-wise. And they are all tall. I'm almost positive that by mid-season I will be more coach than player. We haven't tried sending them long much yet, though, because the winds have been brutal for almost all of our games. We'll see how tonight plays out

I'm sure Andy Pettite and Roger Clemens can help you with that recovery issue.
