Whatever happened to Rick...

Ankiel?!? What a waste of talent! Shows what one flaw can do to a pitchers confidence and career... He was a top 10 prospect... and because of 3 bad months of wild pitch after wild pitch... he is somewhere in the minors probably...

So... I just checked his numbers... at AA Tennessee, his ERA is 9.43 in 21 innings and 22 games... looks like they moved him to the Pen.

Just out of curiosity... did you cut off the last name from the thread title in an attempt to lure more people in - people who don't really care about this topic? Do you have something to gain by fooling people into reading your threads here?

Sorry to single you out... this just seemed like an even more deliberate case than the usual (thread titled: "You won't believe this!").

And I haven't heard an Ankiel update in a while... it's a weird story all around.

He just pitched a complete game yesterday. I read it in the paper this morning.

Probably one of the only players who can pitch a complete game at AA and get it in a major national newspaper.

His is also a gem in OOTP, by the way.

I hadn't heard about the complete game, but he has been struggling this year. I heard talk of trying to convert him into a hitter.

I'm not sure that he's really being a dick. I thought the same thing, just didn't post it. What is lost by typing Ankiel in the title of the thread so those interested can reply?

Granted, it only takes a second to hop in and find out what was intended, but I still think the question QS asked has validity.

Just my opinion. . .

I assume those are some OOTP stats, Jim. When the Cards/Royals were getting together, one of the St. Louis beat guys was on the radio here and said the Cards are either going to trade him to give him a fresh start or move him to the outfield since he is a fairly good hitter.

"trying to win anyone over"?
What does that mean? I've really ever seen a QuikSand post where I would think he's trying to win anyone over...90% of his posts seem to be trying to start a discussion of something...not trying to bring people to his side of an issue.

QuikSand is my favorite poster ever...on any board. His puzzles are the only reason I stayed at the board and I think he's probably the most intelligent person I've ever "internet-met". If he wants to make a comment like the one in this thread, then more power to him. He's one of the main reasons this community has stayed interested in the board.

Personally, I think QuikSand's gradual heel turn over the past few weeks has been great entertainment. The fact that he's so well-respected just adds to the intrigue. He reminds me of an early-1997 Bret Hart.

I happen to think it is just a work and he is setting up something really big here. I am talking Survivor Series big here.

I can't wait until he eventually goes all the way. Cue the Jim Ross voice...

JR: Wha- what the hell? What is QuikSand doing?
(QuikSand waffles SkyDog with a steel chair.)
JR: Somebody better tell me this ain't happening!
(QuikSand hits Buc with his finishing move, The Box Plot, and crotch chops the crowd.)
JR: QuikSand has sold out! Somebody got to him! Who the hell is behind all this?
(QuikSand does the double-overhand point to the entrance way. Cue Gerardo's "Rico Suave")
JR: Good god! That's HornsManiac's music!
(Fade to black...)

LOL

But, QS's finishing move wouldn't be "The Box Plot"...it would be a Northern Lights Suplex that's named "The Two Thirds"

I agree that non-descriptive thread titles designed only to draw people in are a pain in the ass. Let your content stand on its own... if its good, people will read/reply (or whatever you need to inflate your self worth) on their own.

I'd have read a Rick Ankiel thread if it were so named also. I happen to be a big baseball fan and will read news and views about any team. But I don't see the point of wasting the time of people who aren't interested.

It's one thing when a humor quote is misleadingly labeled. Sometimes an accurate title will give away the joke.

But this kind of thing is annoying.

Heh.

When I saw that this thread has grown to 30+ responses, I figured something was up (other than penetrating insghts about Rick... Ankiel). I braced myself that it might be about the "Quiksand=dick" direction.

I guess it could have been worse (and could yet be). Thanks for the kind words nestled in there, oddly enough.

I never I thought I would use this phrase, but this reminds me a scene from Spiderman. The Green Goblin told Spiderman that eventually the people he was protecting would turn on him and treat him like a villain. I have no idea where the QS=D theorem originated, other than from someone either unfortunately named Billy Madison or, worse, someone who felt adopting that moniker was a positive reflection of their online persona.

I have not seen anyone in a board with the numbers of postings of QS that did it the way he does -- without any pretention about his number of post. There are few "cheap" posts in the QS catalog. No one-word posts, no breakdown of how high he ranks, no concerns about his title -- nothing. And when QS does whip out out his dry, acerbic wit, it is to the delight of those of us who actually get it. He is the Anti-Wig.

I don't think that QS needs to worry about "winning people over" after 95 gojillion posts.

And his finisher would be a submission hold called "The Misfit Toy."

Yep, torn elbow ligament. I feel really bad for him, and this happened just as he seemed like he might have been finally putting his wildness behind him. Now he's probably looking at Tommy John surgery. Poor slob.

I wonder if he'll try to come back as a position player, since that'd be less stressful on the arm. He's known to be a very good hitter and might have a future in that direction.

I've hear some incouraging things about him his last few starts, then the injury! Things haven't been good for Ankiel and baseball.
