The Great FOFC Rock Paper Scissors Tournament
Alright, sign-up here. Yes this is real.
We take a little of the psychology and dexterity of the game away by playing it online, but hey, who isn't up for a random game of chance anyway? Let's have a massive RPS tournament right here. Here is how it will work. I want as many people to get to play as long as they can while still proceeding towards a champion so we will be doing a group system, similar to some soccer tournaments. Number of players interested will determine the exact format, but in general: Each player will be in a group with a number of others (say, 4 per group) and will have a 3 throw match with each of them. The top two ranked players in each group will move on to round 2 where we re-group. We keep chopping the groups down roughly by halves until we are down to the final four players. The final four players will play in semi-finals and finals to determine our champion. Then later, someone else can host another tournament. Hopefully we can do this a number of times and get a hall of fame going or something. I know, stupid idea. But I think it will be fun, especially if we can get some chatter and hype. By the way, each player will submit 3 throws to me via PM for their match by a deadline (we will try to keep it to a 24-48 hour deadline with extensions available by request). I will then post the results of each match with throws included (you can research how your opponents behaved in their past matches this way!). SIGN UP HERE! I don't think 3 rolls is going to cut it. We're going to have some pushes along the way.
And I prefer bear, hunter, ninja.

Yeah we will submit enough moves (I'm thinking 7) that it will be highly unusual to not have a result. In case we do, we go to overtime.

Cool! To be clear, please don't send any throws until after the tournament starts and I post the pairings.

People will submit 7 throws. I will use as many as it takes for one player to get 3 wins. Say player 1 sends:
RPPPSRR and player 2 sends: SPPRPSP the results would be: R-S (player 1 wins) P-P (push) P-P (push) P-R (player 2 wins) S-P (player 1 wins) R-S (player 1 wins) and player 1 would win the match, 3-1. The remaining throws would be unnecessary. If neither player had won 3 throws before all submitted throws were used, I will announce that more throws are needed and the players would submit x number of extra throws to continue the match. |
