Tom Tresh to quit after 18 seasons

Tom Tresh officialy retired from baseball at the age of 41, Tresh was a shortstop for the New York Yankees from 1961-1978, Tresh took the plate with 2572 Hits, 1798 Runs, 9193 At Bats, and 2538 games, Tresh selected in 6 all-star games, and won 3 gold gloves, and 3 World Series Titles with the Yankees.

KFRC and the San Francisco Bay Bombers, it was schedule for a post game disco demolition night Dr. Don Rose in conjunction with Mike Veeck (brother of Bay Bombers owner Bill Veeck, KFRC's Bob Anthony, devised a promotion that involved people bringing unwanted disco music records to the game in exchange for an admission fee of 61˘, representing the station's location on the dial, 610. The records would be collected, placed in a large crate in center field, and blown up by Dr. Don Rose.

But in the end the turnout for this promotion will add 5,000 fans for a total over 33,000 attendings this match but in the end Veeck and Hank Greenwald used the public address system to implore the fans to leave the field immediately, but to no avail. Eventually, the field was cleared by the San Francisco Police in riot gear. Six people reported minor injuries and thirty-nine were arrested for disorderly conduct.

1979 PLAYOFF RECAP

ALCS - Minnesota Twins vs. Washington Senators

Game 1 - Michael Radcliff gave up 3 earned runs to get Washington to win Game 1 (Washington 9, Minnesota 7)

Game 2 - Steve Gurkin gave up One Earned Run on nine hits for Washington to beat Minnesota 4-1.

Game 3 - History is made at RFK Stadium, as Tawanna Griffin went 1 for 5 with a home run, a run, and 3 RBI's to win the ALCS and go back to the World Series for the first time since 1962, and a chance to win the world series after 55 years since their championship in 1924! (Washington 7, Minnesota 4)

NLCS - Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Oakland Oaks

Now This is it, will the "We Are Family" Pirates may win 'em all?, or will it be the "Heaven Knows" Senators?

Game 1 - Haruhiko Suzuki got 2 for 4, with a walk, two doubles, two runs and a RBI for Pittsburgh 7 (Pittsburgh 7, Washington 6)

Game 2 - Forcing a Game 5 on Saturday at RFK Stadium, Tawanna Griffin knocked 3 for 4 with a walk, a double, 2 home runs, 2 runs and 3 RBI's to beat the Pirates 7-6.

Game 3 - Kimberly Jackson knocked 2 hits for Washington to beat Pittsburgh 6-5.

Game 4 - TIED UP AGAIN!, Beverly Glass went 2 for 5 for Pittsburgh to knock the Senators 11-3, to even up the series at 2 apeice

Game 5 - Jeff Burroughs went 2 for 3, with 2 walks, a triple, a home run, 2 runs and 7 RBI's for Pittsburgh to beat Washington 14-3.

Wynne to Retire and Continue Dancing?

Los Angeles - Rumor happens as Darcel Wynne will quit from Baseball and continue dancing on a new special which will be produced by Bob Banner and Associates called Solid Gold '79, along with Alexander Cole (who previously played baseball with the Tucson Toros - AAA for the San Francisco A's (now Bay Bombers)), the show will air on Syndication later on February of next year.

Detroit - For at least five weeks, Tigers pitcher Scott Wilde will be recuperating from today's painful ruptured knee ligaments. Scott is an average player with beloww average movement on his pitches.

Britton Out For 7 Days (March 24, 1979)

Indianapolis - Jim Britton was sidelined with a hip stress fracture today. He is expected to miss at least 7 days. The Racers team doctor reported that hip stress fractures usually carry with them permanent effects, Britton is an average pitcher with average stuff
