Louisiana schools also start very early (at least from my perspective where I grew up in NJ and we didn't start until September.) Almost all Louisiana schools start by the 1st week of August.

I remember starting school around September 4th or 8th or something for awhile as a kid, and then they changed it to end of August and I was pissed. I can't imagine losing an entire month, when a week angered me so.
