Post FOF2001 online- Thanks for all the interest

Well you guys sure know how to make a guy feel welcome and accepted...not a single reply in my offer to join a league as a dedicated Seahawks owner. I know some of you guys are putting together leagues in advance. C'mon...show a brother some love.

I wouldn't take it personally. From what I can tell, FOF:Online people are divided into three distinct camps: Those who can't wait for it; Those who are mildly interested, but aren't sure if it's worth paying money for; and those aren't even sure it will ever come to fruition. My guess would be that those in the first group are far and away the minority. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if there were very few people scrambling to get leagues formed right now.

When--and if--the game ever actually exists, I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a league.

Second that. If it's development is anything like 2001, I won't be interested. At all.

Yes, but we're doing it so sneakily that we aren't even telling one another about it, not to mention telling some spiral-pointed, rain-drenched, grunge-listenin' Starbucks-swilling dolaposter.

But seriously, relax. You're not missing the boat. Nobody is building "the" league yet, so you're not missing anything.

Well, I want to play with the Seahawks, so that's why I didn't respond for what it's worth.

That is a problem I see happening with FOF Online. There are obviously a core group of people that will probably form a league and once that one main league fills up there may not be many other flourshing leagues people would want to sign up for.

Since the user base is so small for this game its not like you can just go join one of the thousands of online leagues like you could with FPS etc.

FOF Online hasn't garnered much interest here- I suppose since its vaporware (at least to this point). We were "promised" screen shots in October and told to expect it to go live sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving. Is it still on track?

Tony, Chubby, or Blackadar: Would you find out its status? Could they be planning a simultaneous launch with the re-release?

QS and Mike, c'mon lets come clean and admit that along with Jim we have formed our own league and are managing 7.75 teams each. I mean I'm getting confuzzed with all these players and salary caps and my conscience can't bear it any longer.

oh and "these pretzels are making me thirsty".

I wondered why all of my spoons were beant.

Fine, I'll be the Broncos if a league ever comes up. I'm hoping QS takes the Rams... knowing his disdain for playing with real players, I'll have Faulk, Warner, Bruce and Carter for draft picks in the first week.

Yeah, I may suck for a while after my two titles, but I'll rebuild

Well, if we're putting in claims here, I want da Bears...

Besides, Troy, QS knows that da Bears' picks will be higher, so I'll beat you to Warner at least...

This is really just an educated guess, but I really don't see FOF Online coming out anytime soon. Unless the NFL.com push is really going to roll things out for FOF and EA, I just don't see them putting more resources into the game. FOF TCY is on my radar now... and a patched version of FOF3.

I think FOF Online is going to be offered only to those who have AOL as part of their gaming package. That will leave me out anyway.

I got dibs on the Niners. They better update the ratings for FOF:Online and make garcia and company in the elite. What's up with this 8 game season though? I heard something like that and that sounds STUPID! Why have an online league but only have 8 games and then think people are going to be stupid enough to pay by season.....now where did I put my wallet.

OK...looks like something is forming here...GRIZZLED VETS!!!! Get in here and claim a team...who knows when FOF2001 will go online...but we might as well have a league, with full membership of DEDICATED players, ready to go. It was really tough finding enough dedicated owners with Madden online...so far 4 guys have claimed teams....GRIZZLED VETS...CLAIM A TEAM!!!! First come first served, but I'll keep lists for 2 leagues...so if you wanted a team already picked, sign up for league #2...

League #1-
Seahawks- me (noisaddct)
Broncos- TroyF
Bears- CubsFan915
49ers- Braggadocioussss

League #2-
open

It really seems as if FOF Online is quickly becoming vaporware everyone.

But, on the bright side, TCY is on the horizon (February/March will be here before you know it), and the 1st thing I'm going to do is grab the Buckeyes, fire my coach, and hire someone who can fricking beat fricking Michigan!!!

AS i posted in another thread, FOF Online won't go live UNLESS FOF2k1 sells alot of copies- at least according to EA's Barry Dorf. So, my (rhetorical) question is: how is EA gonna sell this game, if its not even available? Probably the most damning evidence that Online won't be released anytime soon is that the "demand" for sports games is always at its peak during that particular sport's season- duh! So, I theorize that Online (if its releases at all) won't see the light of day 'til next season...

Question

*big* exhale...

wasn't the original logic that FOF2K1 would take off because of all the exposure the online game would provide?

Well, I'd better lay claim to Minnesota, just in case.

I'd like to meet this Justin Case guy someday, I hear so much about him.

I think everyone is getting a little carried away by laying claim to teams (we were just kidding above), but, ....... er......um.....just in case, can I have the Lions - even though I know that choice will come down to a death match b/n Passacaglia, Lions to the End, Morgado, detroit_fan and a few others.

I had always thought if there was a league a fantasy/random draft would be a better idea really, then it wouldn't matter so much which team you were.

Just because my therapist tells me I need to be optimistic, I'll go ahead and select a team. I would have taken the 49ers, but some other clown took them, so I'll take the Saints.

no, ez, the original logic was...now get this insane theory....that the FOF series would take off by being packaged with Madden 2001.

such optimists...

i pose this question to the forum:

now that FOF 2k1 has the NFL license, should we rightfully assume that it will be appearing with next season's Madden game?

now that jim's core base has the game, i would think any additional sales that they could garner as a result of the Madden package would be gravy, to say the least.

As I would really love to have the Colts in FOFOnline, I wouldn'tcare if I got another team (as long as it's not the Steelers or Ravens) just as long as I am going up against some good comp. That's whats got me excited about playing online anyway.

Actually I've known this for some time, but Barry didn't want it released until the FOF 2001 fiasco was settled. I suppose since it's available again, we can consider it settled and so I'm free to post the news...

As most of you expect, FOF 2001 will NOT be available this year. Due to the licensing delay and some other issues, FOF 2001 will not go online until next football season.

(my emphasis added)

And by "FOF 2001" above, I presume that you mean "FOF Online" instead. Correct?
