Worst NFL Teams Dynasty

So I'm bored at work today. So I plan to start a somewhat ambitious dynasty.

I'm going to pick the worst teams for each franchise and run a 16 game season using this year's schedule. I'll do this using Whatifsports.com's matchup software.

Stats will obviously be time consuming to keep, so I'll only be tracking them for major players or players I'm interested in. Respond in this thread, if you want me to keep up with one of your favorite players.

Note: I did not count teams from the strike shortened years, and I did not count teams from before 1970.

Edit: I took out teams that did not play 16 game seasons. Older teams do not fare well due to the nature of NFL statistics. For tiebreakers, I picked the most recent team from a franchise.

Week 1

Thursday Season Opener

NY Giants 26, Washington 9 - Unheralded Giants QB Scott Brunner threw 3 TD passes as the Giants had very little trouble against the hapless Redskins. Heath Shuler was ineffective for the Skins, and a trio of RB's couldn't get their ground game going. Their lone bright spot was Chip Lohmiller who had three FG's.

Sunday Games

Atlanta 56, Detroit 0 - The 2008 Lions still have yet to win a game as they get embarassed in Atlanta. The Falcons steamrolled the Lions wiht a t hree pronged rushing attack that almost netted three 100 yard rushers. Jamal Anderson led the way with 167 yards and 4 TD's, while Craig Heyward had 100 yards and Richard Huntley finished with 84.

St. Louis 26, Philadelphia 16 - The Rams survive a late Eagles comeback attempt that saw Charlie Garner burn off runs of 66 and 31 yards for a 125 yard day on only 9 carries. Still, the inept QB play of Koy Detmer (7-20-52) proved to be too much to overcome and the Rams won 26-16. Marshall Faulk led the way with 139 yards rushing.

New Orleans 35, Tampa Bay 27 - Archie Manning opens the season with a stellar performance, completing 11 of 14 passes for 219 yards and 3 TD's. The Buccaneers were down 28-10 at one point, but a strong running attack (266 yards) helped them make a late comeback attempt. However, Archie Manning would not be denied.

Miami 31, NY Jets 30 - An exciting back and forth game in the AFC East came down to a huge 4th quarter mistake. Frank Reich hit Keyshawn Johnson for a 53 yard TD pass to put the Jets up 30-28, but Nick Lowery missed the extra point. The Dolphins would later drive down and Jay Feely kicked a 40 yard FG for the 31-30 victory. Reich had 363 yards passing and 3 TD's, while the Dolphins were led by Ronnie Brown's 142 total yards and a 76 yard punt return by Ted Ginn Jr.

Kansas City 38, New England 14 - Damon Huard and Larry Johnson powered the Chiefs to a thrashing of a pathetic Patriots defense. Huard threw for 287 yards and 4 TD's, while Larry Johnson racked up 180 total yards. The backbreaking play happened at the end of the first half. The Pats finally got on the board to close the gap to 24-7, but then 25 seconds later Huard completed a 63 yard pass to Tony Gonzalez.

Tennessee 36, Jacksonville 14 - A powerful Titans running attack led them to a dominating victory over the Jaguars. Both Lorenzo White and Gary Brown ran for more than 100 yards and QB Bucky Richardson had 3 TD passes. An anemic Jaguars offense could only manage 10 first downs.

Buffalo 10, Seattle 3 - A snoozefest in Buffalo as neither offense could manage 300 total yards. The score was tied 3-3 until late in the 4th quarter, when Bills RB Joe Cribbs ran it in for a 10 yard TD with only 13 seconds remaining, giving the Bills a 10-3 victory. There were 5 missed FG's in this one.

San Francisco 26, Arizona 20 - The Niners pull off a nice comeback to beat the Cardinals in OT. After trailing most of the game, the Niners tie it with a 21 yard TD pass with 58 seconds remaining in regulation, and score on a 13 yard TD pass to win it in OT. Tim Rattay had a terrific day with 336 yards passing and 3 TD's.

Dallas 28, Cleveland 0 - The Cowboys D held the Browns to only 215 total yards in a thoroughly dominating performance. Paul Palmer led the way with 131 rushing yards, while Tim Couch could only manage 6 of 19, for 77 yards and 2 INT.

Baltimore 21, Cincinnatti 20 - Vinny Testaverde was temporarily knocked out of the game, but Eric Zeier came thorugh with a 31 yard TD pass to put the Ravens up 21-17. The best the Bengals could do from there was a 28 yard Neil Racker FG and that wasn't enough. Kitna did what he could for the Bengals, with 265 passing yards.

Chicago 26, Indianapolis 23 - The Bears score 10 points in the final 1:31 of regulation to send the game into OT, and then win it on a 33 yard Paul Edinger FG. The Colts defense proved to be overmatched by Anthony Thomas, who rtan through them for 172 yards on 23 carries. Eric Dickerson could only manage 57 yards for the Colts.

Carolina 19, San Diego 13 - Neither team could run the ball. Neither team could throw the ball. It turned out to be a FG fest, and Carolina's John Kasay kicked 4 FG's in the contest to give the Panthers a 19-13 victory. Leaf was eventually benched for Harbaugh, who proved to be more effective, but it was too late.

Monday Night Games

Green Bay 26, Minnesota 23 - Another game goes into OT this week. This time it is Ryan Longwell as the hero, with a 51 yard FG to give the Packers the victory. Favre had a typical game with 3 TD passes, but also 2 INT. Tommy Kramer was ineffective for the Vikings, but Ted Brown and Alfred Anderson kept them in it with a strong running attack.

Denver 17, Oakland 9 - Another extremely ugly game. Even John Elway couldn't escape the misery, as he could only manage 68 yards passing. The big play of the game came in the 1st quarter, when the Broncos returned an INT 73 yards for a TD to go up 10-0. They held on for the lead the rest of the way, despite only getting 116 total yards of offense.

Great idea....

In the AFC, I like the '02 Bengals and the the '07 Chiefs. I'll be rooting (in vain) for the '90 Pats.

In the NFC, I like the '05 Packers, the '03 Rams, and as a sleeper, the '89 Cowboys.

I think the AFC West is the strongest division.
