Speaking of judges, what's the over/under on the first pick that gets killed by critics, resulting in the picker scrambling to play the "oh yeah, I know, I'm just pandering to the voters" card?

I'm going to say 1.4.

Detox is going to have some really tough decisions to make, though...like Steve or Jefferson D'Arcy, or whether or not the Shield can be considered a comedy.

While we all sit around waiting for the official start of the draft, a quick reminder: Do not send your picks to bsak in advance.

While doing that would allow things to move really quickly and make this fun for everyone, we'd all much rather wait around for you to make your pick in person.

You're just that goddamn special.

I would have gone in a different direction with 1.1, but I belive Lucy Ricardo is certainly worthy of the choice. I would point out that sitcoms are more funny when a character can't be shoehorned into a traditional role.

Quick question for Location: If somebody picks a location like say...Iraq in the sitcom Life in Iraq, does that mean that nobody else can pick a show based in that location? I would vote no to that, since if somebody picks up NYC, that knocks a lot of sitcoms out the window.

You should be safe. Nothing in the rules calling for any kind of elimination based on location.

Based on the fact that no other rule knocks out an entire show, i'd be surprised if something as broad as location does.

Good point. Also, on the first rule maybe it needs to be clarified that even if you choose a pet or housekeeper, etc. from a sitcom it knocks the sitcom out. Reading it literally, I see it as if you pick a dad, you can still pick a buddy, pet, etc. from that sitcom but not a mom, brother, or sister. Maybe it was meant to be just inclusive of family members though.

I'm trying not to be the dick of this draft, but...

What happened to not talking about future picks? That's being violated all over the place here.

Right.. I didn't quote you because it's not just you - and others have mentioned specific characters.

To answer this I can give an example...say you pick Springfield. Then you can't take anyone else from the Simpsons. So when choosing a Location say the city and the TV show associated with it.

I realize now it doesn't explicitly say it in the rules but Pets, location...everything should be included in the idea of "When you pick someone from that show, you cannot pick another person, pet, location". And since Karl is the only one who drafted so far...i'll update that in the rules.

Thank you to everyone who pointed this out.

1.2 Stewie Grifiin - Bad Guy / Girl / Baby

Stewie is a great sitcom character and is the quintessential lovable villain. Plus now the other good characters from family guy and some from American dad can not be drafted, so I have the market cornered on those shows . I chose Stewie over someone like Peter because in the dad category Peter is middle ground, but I feel Stewie is at the top of the villains. Plus, he is my favorite character on the show.

1.3 Archie Bunker - Dad

Perhaps the greatest character ever created for TV. He was much more than the gruff malcontent that so often came through. Most people have some part of the character that they can either strongly identify with or know someone just like him.

I dont like the Lucy pick either. I dont picture her as a sitcom Mom.
And there are a lot better picks out there then Lucy as a mother.
That was the worst overall 1st pick. Jeff George, anyone?

Archie Bunker is a nice pick. He's definitely a generational-epoch-defining sort of character.

Lucy is an amazing TV character, but I have to agree with those who don't see her as a "mom."

Stewie Griffin is an interesting cock-block pick, and may be quite good as a bad guy... I just feel that's an odd category to pick in the first round, sort of like going punter. Maybe you got Ray Guy, but he's still a punter.

Ummm...ok. Lucy as a "mom"? Bunker as a "dad"? They were known for many things but not specifically as a role of a mother or father. Or should this be interpreted more of a figurehead role?

I agree. While I like the strategery, in the end, we vote on this list - not necessarily on what the pick does to others.

There are lots of dads, moms, brothers, etc... I didn't feel there were many villains in the sitcom genre who were also the best character on the show.

It's not true that it blocks others from Family Guy.

From the rules: 1) Once you draft a family member, pet, location, nanny, or anything from a TV showyou cannot draft another member from that same show.

You can't draft someone from Family Guy.

No one can draft a character voiced by Seth Mcfarlane. Seth Mcfarlane does most of the voices on Family guy as well as the dad and Roger from American Dad.

2) When a "TV Character" is drafted, the actor or actress that plays that character many not be drafted by anyone else even if they are in another sitcom.

I think Archie Bunker works better as a dad than Lucy does as a mom. The play between him and Gloria/Meathead was a huge part of his character.

Good pick...probably more for the block than the actual pick, IMHO. Brian as the pet, and as you said, Peter as the Dad are blocked.

After careful consideration, and in going with a more modern theme, we here at team DeTox have determined that there is no better best friend to a lead character then ..

1.4: Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzereli [Best friend]

Who doen't know the Fonz?
