Get these silver sleeved demons away from me!!!
WTF was I thinking buying 6 boxes of girl scout thin mints. I should have known I'd eat them in like 5 days.

I've got a box of them I'm working on, Tagalongs too. I'm disappointed though cause I really wanted to try the new flavor-Dulce De Leche (sp?) and both times I had a chance to get some-they were sold out. Anyone try them?

I love the samoas. We didn't get any this year, we are usualy guilted into buying them from my wifes cousins daughter, but now that we live 3000 miles away thats no problem.
Plus when we see them selling at the market we head the other way. |

I always figure that if you do something like that, it is probably better than eating something bad over an extended period of weeks or months because your body can probably only absorb so many calories or so much fat over a short period of time. I mean, once you have eaten a whole box or two in one night, will another really be that much worse or aren't you kind of "capped out" by then anyway?

See, I like to spread mine out throughout the year. My wife thinks they're somewhat overrated tho she'd never say so. So, I like to get about 4 boxes and binge (samoas, pb patties, thin mints, and whatever new one they have for the year) and then get some more boxes of the first three to tide me over through the year.
Anyone else saddened by the smaller portions this year? I'm sorry, but shrinking the samoas down really does affect their flavor- it makes them too "chocolatey" versus the other flavors (caramel, coconut, etc). I would have been ok with them just putting 12 cookies in a smaller box or something but why mess with the cookies?!? Why, God, Why?!? SI

You can't throw a rock without hitting a girl scout in front of a store this last week or two (lord knows, I've tried )

My boss brought an order form to work on behalf of his daughter, which is where I ordered mine. I haven't seen girl scouts in front of any stores out here. Any. Might be the weather, might have something to do with the article I read suggesting that the Scouts were expecting far lower cookie sales this year. |

And I've seen exactly one table of scouts in front of Wal-Mart one time and zero scouts or order forms this year. I must not visit the scouting hot spots I guess.

It's so weird. In California I got used to seeing the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts set up on a table outside Best Buy at the appropriate times of the year for popcorn and cookies. I haven't seen anything, *anywhere*, since moving out here. It's got to be a factor of the weather, since there's still snow on the ground and the high temperature this week is supposed to be high 30s/low 40s. Not exactly cookie-selling weather. But, just, damn. |

Really? I see them down in Milwaukee around the Wal-marts and Pick N' Saves a fair amount of time. As for buying them and storing them. Ya.. doesn't work for me. If my wife buys them and stores them in the freezer downstairs, it somewhat works until I remember they are there and then eat a sleeve.

Nothin' up here. Cub Foods closed up shop end of last year, so that's one grocery store gone that they might've sold in front of, I dunno. Haven't been to a Festival Foods since Thanksgiving, and haven't seen them at the two Wal-Marts I know of. Aldi's is out of the way enough that I'd be shocked to see them there. ...ooh. I just hit Google and found this courtesy of the Northwestern Great Lakes Girl Scouts: Little Brownie Bakers -- Cookie Locator Looks like there'll be some at the ShopKo out here on Saturday. I'd try the Festival listed, but if it's on Mason, I'd really rather not get lost trying to find it. Heh. Last edited by SackAttack : 03-11-2009 at 10:37 PM. |

I work from home and every year but this one I've had numerous Girl Scouts at the door - none so far this year; perhaps they're still stockpiling cookies so they can fulfil the expected order? |

There were 8 of them running around the liquor store I stopped at last weekend. Pretty much forced me to buy a box, little bastards. Then I put them down on the table at the "beer-tasting festival" 10 of us were having, went to put my beers down outside (who needs fridges when its 30 degrees out? ), and when I came back there were only 2 cookies left in the box. Big bastards.

Liquor store? Were they the 8-year-olds or the 16-year-olds? They used to do that in California, send them door-to-door as a team like that, and whether the older or the younger one took the lead depended on whether it was a male or a female answering the door (age was probably a factor, too; Dad used to get the pitch from the 8-year-olds, while I used to get it from the older girls). |

#1 girl scouts are not supposed to go door to door. #2 anyone who appreciates the cause but doesnt like the cokies can now click a box and donate cookies to the troops. My ife and I actually sent 100 boxes to IRAQ. I figure if ou guys have cookies the enemy will surrender.

We ordered a box through the school I worked in. I thought they were pretty good, but not as good as thin mints out of the freezer. My wife usually gets the Tagalongs and the Samoas. |

Oh, sure. It was always a little weird for me too when the older girls would start trying to sell me cookies. I was just having a hard time believing that 8 y/o kids would be selling thin mints by the booze. Wow. |

My sisters were in GSs (the older one, in particular, nearly made a career out of it during her teen years). I just remember the yearly occurance of our house just being stuffed with boxes and boxes of girl scout cookies. Didn't stop me from liking them, but it seemed like we always had them around, boxed up and ready for delivery. Maybe my memory's exaggerating, though. Ended up using a lot of those cardboard boxes for storing things in the attic and whatnot.
