When WOW caming out, it was reported to be the most expensive game ever developed for PC, with a 10 million dollar budget. And no, I cannot find the articles. It did mention 2-3 million as the typical AAA title budget and mention the huge risk Blizzard was taking by spending 3 times that. It was 5 years ago, not 3. Us old folks tend to underestimate how long ago things were. Time goes too quickly for us.

Maybe it broke ground for PC games, but console games have been over $10M. Here are a few from ~10 years ago that I remember hearing about at the time:
Final Fantasy 7 (1997) - $30M Shenmue (1999) - $70M Final Fantasy 9 (2000) - $40M Final Fantasy 10 (2001) - $30M+ |

Do you know where I can find some sailors?
Shenmue always struck me as a game I should probably hate for all the flaws it has(and there are tons), but I love it. Nice to see some modern day RPGs. Some classic dialog in those games, so awkward. Last edited by Calis : 03-06-2009 at 09:56 PM. |

FYI......I saw a ton of Wii's in stock yesterday at Best Buy. I also saw at least 20 Wii Fit boxes. I know yesterday was not a shipping day for this store.
Long story short, if anyone is still looking for a console or a Wii Fit, might want to check some retailers again. I think the demand might have slowed down a bit to allow you to pick it up. |

Yeah, there were a bunch at Costco when I went the other day. They had over 100 of the 8 X 10 cards that you take to checkout, and they bring you one out. It was the Wii + Wii Sports standard package, and it was $244.

Pretty reliable rumor site says that that Microsoft will stop mass-producing the Elite console. May still come out in limited bundles like the RE5 bundle. They will continue to make the Arcade and Pro. Probably will also create a bigger drive than the 120 GB for those that want to upgrade an Arcade console. Sounds like a move to capitalize on the 'install game to HDD' option by offering a large HDD that offers a good profit for MS.

Once they put HDMI on the others, the Elite's days were probably numbered.

DS will soon pass 100 million sold.
kotaku link With PS2 sales in sharp decline and the DSi about to be released in North America and Europe it could become the all time hardware sales leader. |

Man..Shenmue..I remember liking that game a lot, and I usually can't stand RPG's...I never finished the first one, though.

I'm not sure I buy that. Most of the sources appear to be 3rd or 4th hand at best. I know that they just announced a new 80 GB bundle in Europe with Resistance and Motorstorm packaged into it. That sounds much more like something Sony would do (i.e. not a price cut when it's desparately needed). |
