Company of heros
Does anybody have this? I downloaded (which took forever) the demo and it seemed cool but I would like feedback from anyone else out there that has it/has played it.

It is as it seems. Very strong RTS. If you like the genre and aren't burned out on the setting, a fine way to spend your money.

I usually dont go for that type of game, but I gave it a try and it seemed pretty cool. I may pick it up, I like the strategy involved. If anyone else has any thoughts on it or suggestions for a better game of that type, let ne know please.

I have been playing Company of Heroes for a few months now and I just love it. If you like RTS at all and like Shkspr said aren't burned out on the setting it is a must have. It was easily in my top three games I played this year (along with NWN2 and Warhammer Dawn of War). Dawn of War is another great one, but it is not quite as detailed as COH in the strategy department, but I enjoyed it just as much.
Take my opinion with a grain of salt, however. I don't really get into the simulation heavy RTS like the Total War series because it is a little overwhelming (but I am still trying to figure it out), but stuff like COH and Dawn of War are right up my alley. I guess you could say I like the medium difficulty RTS's. |

How much replay value does it have? I am not much of a multiplayer fan, but it seems like this would have a high replay value since you can do things different every time.

Yeah, even though the missions are the same, you can try different tactics and/or units etc. I went through once trying to only use infantry and no tanks, once trying to not use any veteran units that carry over from previous missions, etc. There are lots of little things you can do differently as well, like why march all the way around this row of houses this time when I can just use a satchel charge to demolish one of them and march over the rubble to flank the enemy machine gunners.
It keeps me coming back for more. But that could also be because of the ragdoll physics, like Flasch said. Last edited by Toddiec : 12-27-2006 at 05:56 PM. |

looks pretty sweet. FWIW I really enjoyed COD 1+2, and wish 3 was out for the PC, so WW II shooters are right up my alley.

I have it and have enjoyed it. There's the single person campaign (I think like 14 missions) plus some skirmishes if you aren't into multiplayer. Supposedly it's moddable, so maybe there's some user expansions out there.
I don't play RTS much, but I love the war games, and I really like this one. Crank up the volume and the subwoofer. It's pretty difficult for me though in skirmishes (probably b/c I don't play RTS much). Be sure to get the latest patches (as always). |

I've never played any of the Call of Duties....which one would you say would be best on PS2? Or, perhaps one of the Clancy or Socom games is better?

COD 2 is awesome so far. I am really into war games so it seems like a wise purchase. I will probably be buying COH as well

Dumb question. Whats the difference between COH and COH DVD edition? Does the DVDrom edition run better?

I played COH for about 2.5 hours last night and it's a pretty damn good RTS game. A little overwhelming but good... I played a the first two mission in the campaign and then got my arse kicked twice in a skirmish against the computer. Overall I enjoyed the play last night.

After watching the Revolutionary War series for 6 hours today with my father-in-law, I was in the mood to play COH this evening. The game has been rock solid for me all the way through, but I'm consistently getting CTD's on the final mission. Did anyone else experience this? Anyone know a workaround?

It really depends if you're an RTS gamer. If you are, then CoH is one heck of a game.

Actually, I was only up to 1.50. I upgraded to 1.70 and the crashes appeared to be less frequent but I did crash again before going to bed. I'm going to give it another go tonight. This is the only mission that I've ever had a CTD on. |

FWIW, the game is available now on Steam (direct download service). I bought it tonight and have done the tutorials and the first few missions. So far I'm loving it.

It is, you play as either the British or a german Panzer division. YOu dont need COH tp play it, but if you have both you can be any of the 4 groups in MP.

Company of Heroes was one of my favorite non-sports games, so I'll definitely be buying Opposing Fronts. |

i picked up Opposing Fronts (the first expansion) but never reinstalled it on this new machine to finish it (still on my list to do).
Just saw on Steam that there's a new expansion - Tales of Valor has anyone picked it up? |

Haven't heard a lot of good things about the expansion.
I intended to buy it, but ended up grabbing Dawn of War 2 off Steam instead. Sounds like it'd be best to wait until they squash out the bugs and such on the expansion before considering it, and then I'm not sure how much it adds to the game, but some of the coop stuff sounds like fun. |
