Can anybody recommend a good book on the inner workings of southern politics leading up to and during the Civil War?

I'm reading Team of Rivals right now and would like to move on to a southern perspective as my next read.

Apostles of Disunion examines the role played by secession commissioners in the run up to war. It's pretty short and narrowly focused, but it's great research on what the seceding states believed was the cause of the war at that time.
