2020 Playoff Thread

I'll start off by answering the question regarding upgrading to OOTP 10 or not. After hearing what several owners have posted along with talking further via PM with a few to understand where they are coming from, at this time we are not planning on upgrading to OOTP 10. There were a handful of owners that said they did not want to upgrade, but would buy the game if the league decided to do it. The deciding factor however is that a couple of owners actually just don't have any financial ability to buy a new version at this time so our upgrading would be a way of telling them "So long, see ya!"

I am open to the idea or thought of running a seperate FOOL version 10 league in the same mold as this one if there is enough interest in it, but that can be discussed in the ootp 10 thread..

In this thread, it is time for some fake-baseball playoffs! Sim time, I am getting the exports now. Good luck to our playoff teams.

CLCS Game 1:

Edmonton scores four in the top of the first inning, including an Erik Bowden 2-run homer off of Montreal starter Arturo Hernandez. Montreal cuts the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning on RBI singlees from Poor and Rivera. Another Edmonton score on a Jorge Garcia single in the top of the 4th keeps Edmonton ahead for good. Garcia goes 3 for 5 on the day in the win.

Edmonton 5, Montreal 4

RLCS Game 1:

Leon Olivares started this one for Ann Arbor while Mike Davis took the mound for Hammersmith. Both Starting pitchers did well to start the game as neither team scored a run until a Jesus Souza sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th put Ann Arbor ahead 1-0.

Still leading 1-0 in the top of the 9th, Mike Davis is still on the mound for the Hooligans. Timothy Vallis hits into a one-out fielder's choice that scores pinch-runner Pung-cho Chon from third base to make it a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the 9th.

Ann Arbor lifts Olivares after pitching 8 innings and brings in Jong-hoon Ch'oe to close out the game for them. Ch'oe walks Pat Jackson and Don Adler back to back to start the inning. A Passed ball by the catcher allows both runners to advance a base, but Miguel Serrano lines out for the first out of the inning. Seika Hatsutori pinch hits and grounds out to third base for the second out of the inning, but the runner scores from third to make it 2-1 now. Ying-hua Yan, up next lines a pitch into short left-center field to score another run and ties up the game at 2-2 in the 9th inning with 2 outs and a runner at first base.

Guthrie, up next reaches base thanks to an error by the catcher, but Rodriguez ends the inning with a ground out to third. The 2-2 tie brings us to extra innings. Mike Davis is still in to pitch for Hammersmith in the top of the 10th and he gets McCain to ground out before he is lifted for a relief pitcher, Candeloro. Candeloro gets through the 10th, allowing only Souza to reach base by being hit by a pitch.

In the bottom of the 10th, Ch'oe still in for Ann Arbor, Aguilar starts off with a single. Properzi is walked to put the winning run at second base with no outs. Pat Jackson swings at the first pitch but pops out to the Catcher. Adler strikes out next for the second out of the inning. Serrano then grounds one deep in the hole to Short.. He fields the ball, but is unable to throw out Serrano. That loads the bases for Jason Major.

First pitch... called strike... Second pitch a ball.. the 1-1 count... A ground ball towards second... and through the hole... base hit. Aguilar runs in from third and scores the winning run. Hooligans win game 1!

Hammersmith 3, Ann Arbor 2 (10 innings)

Hammersmith scores 2 in the 3rd, 2 in the 5th and another in the 8th as they take it easily.

Hammersmith 5, Ann Arbor 2

Hammersmith leads the series 2 games to 0.

CLCS Game 3:

Emmett Quero gets the start for Montreal and is instantly given a huge cushion of runs to work with. Montreal scores 6 in the first inning on 5 singles, a double and a triple plus two walks and an error. Montreal scores another in the second, four more in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th. For the game Montreal scores 13 runs on 18 hits as First baseman Roy Poor goes 4 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI and second baseman Joe Hughes is 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.

Montreal 13, Edmonton 4

Montreal leads the series 2 games to 1.

RLCS Game 3:

An Aguilar Sac fly in the top of the 1st gives Hammersmith an early 1-0 lead. McCain gives Ann Arbor the lead in the bottom of the 4th with a 2-run home run, and they score 2 more in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 4-1 lead. That lead carries until the top of the 8th when Hammersmith score 5 times on 4 hits, an error and 2 bases on balls to take the lead 6-4. A Nathan Weeks solo homer in the bottom of the 8th cuts the lead by one, but Julio Rodriguez hits a solo shot in the top of the 9th to provide the insurance run as Hammersmith goes on to win.

Hammersmith 7, Ann Arbor 5

Hammersmith leads the series 3 games to 0.

CLCS Game 4:

Edmonton starting pitcher Johnny 'Mudcat' Catron pitches well, striking out 7 and allowing only 4 hits and no runs to score in 7 innings pitched. Bryan Lamb nearly matches him however as he also goes 7, allowing 1 run to score on 5 hits while striking out 7 as well. In the top of the 8th, Keyte doubles to start the inning and Rivera doubles right after him to tie it up 1-1. Edmonton scores again however in the bottom of the 8th on a Suarez RBI single to take the lead for good.

Edmonton 2, Montreal 1.

The CLCS is tied 2 games a piece.

RLCS Game 4:

Hasegawa takes the mound again for Hammersmith and he gives up only 3 hits in 8 innings and hands off a 3-1 lead to the bullpen in the bottom of the 9th. Candeloro comes in to try to save the game for Hammersmith and he instantly gives up a double to Vallis and then hits Moran. McCain up next lines one over the shortstops head for a single that scores Vallis from second. That makes the score 3-2 Hammersmith with no outs. Ann Arbor brings in Michael Hart to pinch run for Moran at second base with Marty Harrington coming to the plate. Candeloro pitches it in to Harrington, and the pitch is hit hard to left field... back.. back.. it barely scrapes over the fence , but it is out of here. A 3-run home run by Marty Harrington wins the game for Ann Arbor and keeps them alive in the series for another day.

Ann Arbor 5, Hammersmith 3

Hammersmith leads the series 3 games to 1.

CLCS Game 5:

Lourenco Webb hits a solo homer in the bottom of the 2nd to give Edmonton the 1-0 lead. That lead is extended on a Webb RBI single and a sac fly from Galvez in the third to 3-0. In the top of the 6th however, Dale Bryan hits a 3-run home run and Montreal scores 4 additional runs to turn the game around with a 7-3 lead. Webb hits another solo shot in the bottom of the 7th for his third RBI of the game, and second Home Run of the game. In the bottom of the 8th, Edmonton scores two more on a Campoy pinch-hit single to cut the lead to 7-6.

Montreal goes down 1-2-3 in the top of the 9th, giving Edmonton the final chance to tie it up in the bottom of the inning. Jesus Delgado begins the bottom of the 9th with a Single off of Montreal reliever Kent Gardner and is then pinch ran for by Raya at first. Arturo Hernandez, up next strikes out looking at the 0-2 pitch, which brings up Jorge Garcia to bat. Garcia takes the first two pitches as balls.. but the next pitch he likes and he swings... Hit hard.. right to the third baseman.. Over to second for the out, on to first.. Double Play! Montreal wins the game!

Montreal 7, Edmonton 6

Montreal leads the series 3 games to 2.

Edmonton starter Armando Rojas gives up 10 hits but does not allow a single run to score, as he pitches a complete game striking out 7. Edmonton gets 4 runs in the top of the 2nd, another run in the 4th and four more in the 5th including back-to-back home runs from Trujillo and Bowden.

Edmonton 9, Montreal 0

The CLCS is tied 3 games each!

RLCS Game 6:

Ann Arbor gets to Hasegawa early in this one, scoring 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the third and 3 in the 4th. Trailing 6-2, Hammersmith starts off the bottom of the 7th with a Mejia Double and Vega triple to cut the lead to 6-3. With Vega on third base, Ann Arbor pitcher Carlos Esquivel is called for a balk! Boy is he mad.. he is hopping up and down and yelling at the ump out there... Vega walks in to home to cut the lead to 6-4. Esquivel's teammates help him calm down and keep him in the game long enough for him to force Cochrane to fly out and then strikes out Rodriguez and Aguilar to end the inning. Hammersmith is unable to score however in the 8th or 9th innings, getting only one base runner in each inning and Ann Arbor ties the series back up to force a game 7!

Ann Arbor 6, Hammersmith 4

The RLCS is tied 3 games each!

CLCS Game 7:

The best pitcher in baseball, Emmett Quero once again takes the mound in a game 7 for Montreal. Edmonton strikes first however in the top of the second as Bowden and Webb hit back to back doubles to give the Edge to Edmonton 1-0. After a Galvez strikeout, Sutton hits a RBI single that scores Webb from second to make it 2-0 Edmonton. Quero gets out of the inning, but his team is trailing.

In the bottom of the 4th, Orlando leads the inning off for Montreal with a walk, and Blackmore follows with a Double which does not score Orlando from first. Keyte, up next strikes out, but Rivera then doubles to a centerfield gap which scores both Orlando and Blackmore to tie the game back up 2-2. Bryan grounds out and Lott flies out to end the inning however.

Neither team is able to score again, into the 9th inning it is still 2-2. Lange, now pitching for Montreal starts off the top of the 9th by striking out Webb looking. Campoy then pinch hits for Edmonton and grounds the first pitch right to the second baseman for the second out of the inning. Sutton is then struck out to end the top of the 9th.

Josh Wright in to pitch the bottom of the 9th, and he forces Bryan to ground out to start things off. Lott, up next strikes out swinging at the 3-2 pitch for the second out of the inning. Roy Poor, then hits the first pitch he sees over the third baseman for a single. He is pinch ran for by Ortega. Shoin Sugimoto steps up to the plate as a pinch hitter. He takes the first two pitches for balls, before fouling off the next pitch. The 2-1 count.. hit deep.. to center field.. but not quite deep enough in the cavernous Majestics stadium outfield, and is caught by the centerfielder to end the inning. Tied up 2-2 we're heading to extra innings.

No one scores in the 10th inning, in the top of the 11th Edmonton scores on a Trujillo solo-home run to force Montreal's back against the wall in the bottom of the inning. Fitzgerald in to pitch for Edmonton to try to close out the game and the series. Keyte starts it off with a double for Montreal. Rivera, up next hits a short fly ball to right field which is caught, and not deep enough for the runner to tag up. Bryan follows by flying out to center field, and Lott then flys out to left field to end the inning, stranding the tying run at second base. Edmonton is headed to the FOOL Classic for the first time!

Edmonton 3, Montreal 2 (11 innings)

RLCS Game 7:

Neither team is able to score until the 6th inning. A McCain RBI single scores Cortez and Vallis to give Ann Arbor the 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, a wild pitch scores Aguilar for Hammersmith and then Properzi scores on a fielder's choice to tie things back up at 2 a piece. Nathan Weeks hits a 2-run home run in the top of the 7th to give Ann Arbor the lead once again. Hammersmith cuts the lead by 1 in the bottom of the 7th on a Vega triple followed by a Rodriguez Sac Fly.

An Ann Arbor insurance run in the top of the 9th, puts Hammersmith down 5-3 entering the bottom of the 9th. Ch'oe in to try to close the game for Ann Arbor. Serrano leads off the bottom of the 9th by lining out to the second baseman. Yan steps up as a pinch hitter and takes a 3-2 pitch which is called just outside for a ball. Hatsutori, up next as a pinch hitter grounds one down the third base line for a single which moves Yan over to second. Scotty Guthrie up next, swings at the first pitch and misses... Swings at the second pitch and hit hard.. right to the third baseman. He fires it over to second for the first out, on to first... in time! Double Play! Ann Arbor wins the series!

The last time we had a FOOL Champion with less than 90 wins in a season was 2015 when Montreal won the championship after putting up an 84-78 record that year. If Edmonton wins, this would be their first FOOL title in Franchise history. If Ann Arbor wins, they would become the 17th franchise in FOOL history to win multiple FOOL titles, their previous one was 2017. (Ann Arbor had previously had other franchises, including the Ann Arbor Wolverines who won the FOOL Championship in 1967).

Another postseason note, this is the third straight year that the FOOL Champion will not have been the regular season champion of their league.

In the bottom of the third, Souza hits a 2-run homer as Ann Arbor scores 4 runs and takes a 5-1 lead. Edmonton gets one back with a Tujillo solo home run in the top of the 4th and two more in the 6th on an Erik Bowden 2-run shot which cuts the lead to 5-4 Ann Arbor.

In the bottom of the 6th, Stanley Jones hits a 2-run homer to once again extend the lead to 7-4 Ann Arbor. Edmonton Singles from Hernandez, Gill and Trujillo in the 7th makes it a 7-5 game but Edmonton is unable to cross the plate again as Ann Arbor takes this one at home.

Ann Arbor starts off the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd with 3 runs, including a Stanely Jones 2-run home run. In the top of the 5th however, Edmonton takes the lead thanks to 5 singles, a walk, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch.

Stanley Jones ties the game back up in the bottom of the 5th 4-4 with a solo home run, his second home run of the game! Arturo Hernandez answers however in the top of the 6th with a solo home run of his own to give Edmonton the 5-4 lead. They score again in the top of the 7th on a Webb RBI double that makes it 6-4.

In the Bottom of the 7th, Ann Arbor scores three times on 5 singles and a walk to take the lead 7-6.

Neither team scores in the 8th, which brings Edmonton to bat in the top of the 9th, down by 1. Ch'oe comes in to try to save the game for Ann Arbor. Trujillo leads off the inning with a single and is pinch ran for by Raya. Erik Bowden grounds one to the right side for a single, which moves Raya to second. A throwing error by the right fielder allows both runners to advance another base. Webb strikes out for the first out of the inning, but Galvez follows with a RBI single that ties the game up 7-7! Sutton strikes out swinging and Suarez grounds out to second to end the top of the 9th, but not before Edmonton tied it back up.

Ann Arbor goes down in the bottom of the 9th 1-2-3 to force the game into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Arturo Hernandez hits his second solo home run of the game to give Edmonton an 8-7 lead. Ann Arbor answers in the bottom of the inning however as Weeks, Stanley Jones, Nieves and Vallis hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles that score two runs. Ann Arbor wins in extra frames!

Ann Arbor 9, Edmonton 8 (10 innings)

Ann Arbor leads the FOOL Classic 2 games to 0.

Thursday, October 8th, 2020: Hernández Strokes 5 Hits
Today at Edge Ballpark Arturo Hernández put on an impressive display of hitting -- the Edmonton center fielder tagged Ann Arbor pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on his batting spree and lost the game to the Winged Lingerines by the score of 9-8.

"Hey, the loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it. 5-6 ain't bad in any league."

Despite the terrific performance, Hernández remained somewhat somber. "Sure, I'm happy with my performance today," he was quoted as saying in the locker room, "But all that really matters in this game is that number in the win column. We just didn't get it done today."

A. Hernández singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off C. Cochrane in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Ch'oe in the 10th.

This year Hernández has socked 184 hits in 712 at-bats for a .258 average with 23 home runs. He is getting on base at a .317 pace and his totals also include 75 RBIs and 108 runs scored.

Esquivel is lights out today on the road. He strikes out 9 in 8 innings and gives up only 2 hits, along with 6 walks as the Edmonton offense is completely shut down. Nick McCain went only 1 for 5 with a double, but had 3 RBI for Ann Arbor as well. The Winged Lingerines take this one easily.

Ann Arbor 7, Edmonton 0

Ann Arbor leads the series 3 games to 0.

Once again the game is not even close, but this time the victory swings the other direction. Jesus Romero pitches 8 innings and strikes out 4 while spreading out 9 hits and allowing no one to score.

Trujillo goes 3 for 4, with 4 RBI, including a 3-run Home run in the bottom of the 5th inning and Edmonton wins one in front of the home fans.

Edmonton 6, Ann Arbor 0

Ann Arbor leads the series 3 games to 1.

Ann Arbor scores first in the top of the 3rd on a Vallis double and Souza RBI single that gives them the early 2-0 lead. Edmonton gets one run back in the bottom of the 3rd when Hernandez hits a RBI single through the middle of the infield. They tie it up in the bottom of the 4th on a Galvez RBI double.

With the score tied 2-2, Ann Arbor has a huge 5th inning. Moran reaches on an error by the shortstop, McCain is walked and Harrington is intentionally walked after a wild pitch to load the bases up for Souza. Souza is walked by the Edmonton starter to walk in a run and give Ann Arbor the 3-2 lead. With the bases still loaded and no outs, Stanley Jones fouls off two pitches before rocketing a pitch into the Right-centerfield gap.. The ball bounces around a while and Stanley Jones is in to third standing up as the bases are cleared of runners.. 6-2 lead for Ann Arbor now. Edmonton has had enough and they bring in Ki-tak Kim to pitch. Kim allows Jones to score from third as he forces Cortez into a ground out, but otherwise he escapes the inning without any other runs scoring. Not before Ann Arbor takes a 7-2 lead however.

Edmonton scrapes one run back in the bottom of the 7th on a RBI single from Garcia, but then they strike big in the bottom of the 8th.. Against Ann Arbor starter Ben Attwood, Trujillo starts off with a double and Bowden is intentionally walked. Ann Arbor then brings in Luis Rivera to pitch in relief to Lourenco Webb. Webb lines one down the right field line for a double that scores one and cuts the lead to 7-4. Rivera was only in for that one batter as Ann Arbor once again goes to a different relief pitcher, this time Clinton Cochrane. Cochrane faces pinch-hitter Jose Campoy first.. Campoy grounds one up the middle for a single that scores Bowden 7-5 now is the score. Sutton, up next hits one into the Right-centerfield gap for a double that scores Webb, but not the runner from first. 7-6 now is the score however. Delgado, the pinch hitter strikes out swinging and Hernandez pops up, but Garcia comes through with a RBI single that scores both baserunners and gives Edmonton a 8-7 lead! Gill takes a walk which brings up Trujillo for the second time this inning. Carlos Trujillo can't manage a second hit of the inning however as he grounds out to the third baseman to end the inning, but not before Edmonton takes the lead!

Edmonton reliever Josh Wright comes into pitch the top of the 9th. He forces Stanley Jones to ground out to the third baseman to start things off. Cortez then strikes out looking and Weeks strikes out swinging to end the game. Edmonton comes from behind to win!

Edmonton 8, Ann Arbor 7

Ann Arbor leads the FOOL Classic 3 games to 2.

Jesus Souza hits a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first to give the Ann Arbor fans an early lead. Galvez hits a RBI single in the top of the 2nd to cut that lead to 2-1 however. Stanley Jones answers in the bottom of that inning with a 3-run Home Run for Ann Arbor to give them a 5-1 lead. Ann Arbor scores 3 more in the bottom of the third which gives them a seemingly unsurmountable 8-1 lead!

In the top of the 5th, Arturo Hernandez hits a 3-run home run of his own, along with a Sutton RBI single to cut the lead to 8-5, but once again Ann Arbor responds immediately scoring 2 in the bottom of the 5th on 3 hits to double Edmonton's score 10-5.

Bowden scores 1 for Edmonton in the top of the 6th on a throwing error and Hernandez hits a RBI double in the top of the 8th to score another two runs to cut the lead to 2.. 10-8.

In the top of the 9th, still down 10-8, Ann Arbor bring in Ch'oe once again to save the game for them. He walks Gill to start off the inning, but forces Trujillo to ground into a double play. With two outs and no one on, Bowden hits one to left field... should be an easy out... oh an error by the left fielder and Bowden is on base safely... Webb, up next takes a base on balls.. Raya follows with a single, Bowden scores from second base to cut the lead 10-9. Campoy follows with his own single that ties the game up 10-10! Ann Arbor should have been out of this one if not for the error... Suarez, up next hits one deep.. to center field... deep... but caught... out number 3 of the inning. Not before Edmonton tied it up however.

Wright comes in the bottom of the 9th to pitch for Edmonton. He strikes out Weeks, forces Stanley Jones to fly out, but can't get Nieves out as he reaches on a single. Vallis up now, with the winning run at first base... The first pitch, Nieves takes off for second, he is in there safe with a stolen base. The second pitch, Vallis grounds towards first... its through for a single. Nieves is around third.. he is trying for home... and will make it easily without a throw. Ann Arbor wins in the bottom of the 9th!

Ann Arbor 11, Edmonton 10

Ann Arbor leads the FOOL Classic 4 games to 2.

Nathan Weeks hits a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd for the game's first score. Edmonton responds in the top of the 4th with a Carlos Galvez RBI single that scores two runs and gives Edmonton the 2-1 lead.

Neither team is able to score again until the bottom of the 7th inning when Nieves hits a RBI single to tie the game up 2-2. Edmonton goes scoreless in the top of the 8th, but in the bottom of the inning, Nathan Weeks hits his second home run of the game, this time a 3-run shot as Ann Arbor scores 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th to take an 8-2 lead.

Edmonton comes up in the top of the 9th inning, they have to at least score 6 runs or their season is over.. Galvez up first against the Ann Arbor starter Esquivel, and he strikes out looking. Sutton next, swings at the first pitch he sees and flys out to the right fielder. Suarez, next hits one hard, but right at the second baseman. That is out number three, and Ann Arbor has won this game and the FOOL Championship for a second time!

Ann Arbor 8, Edmonton 2

Ann Arbor is the 2020 FOOL Champions!

Not sure how I let that one slide. I thought I had him on a team option.

I wondered where you had been. I saw that you had been exporting every day but not posting. I just figured you were busy

If you ever have issues with accounts here, just let me know. drop me an email (if you haven't written down my email address the other few times I've posted drop me a PM and I'll send it to you). I can usually help get whatever issues you have fixed if need be.

Thanks Alan. I tried to get in contact with you but never could figure out a way ><. Eventually I took gstelmack's advice and used the contact us link. That took care of it in a few hours. Now I can actually make some trades! Somebody take Colin Lockyer, he's a real "gamer".
