It ain't over, 'till it's over (HS Football)

High School Sports Blog | Wild finish in Michigan high-school football game | Seattle Times Newspaper

It seems like there is a story like this coming out every week. It's the beauty of YouTube. In this wild finish to a high-school football game in Michigan, John Glenn High School lined up for a potential game-winning field goal against Plymouth.

The kick gets blocked and Plymouth players start to celebrate, thinking they had just claimed a one-point win. But the play wasn't over. The John Glenn player holding the football runs into the end zone, scores and give his team a 33-28 victory.

Looks like the link (further down in the thread) was deleted by Youtube. Anyways...yeah this was posted already. Crazy play...kinda reminds me something that I witnessed.

I watched our JV team completely blow a game with about :10 left. Here was the situation.

We were up by 4 with about :10 left (right), we were on our own 15 yard line about to punt it away to them. All we had to do is either A.) get off a decent punt out of bounds, or B.) have the punter run around in the endzone for 10 seconds and then take the safety. Here's what happened. The snap was bad, in fact it was REALLY bad. The ball flew well over the punters head into the endzone behind him. The punter in panic mode runs back and picks up the ball, and is met by 2 defenders about a yard into the endzone...if he just falls down and takes the safety then they would be fine. But no...he struggles...struggles...and pushes his way out of the endzone to about the 1 inch line and gets tackled with a second or two left on the clock. So now our opponent (our rival mind you) has the ball on the 1 inch line with time to call one play for the potential win. QB sneak...touchdown...game over...season over.

Awesome. At least I won (Varsity) the next night.

Is it just me, or did the coaches & several players for the winning team step onto the field while the play was still live?

The holder #87 picked up the ball with his knee still on the ground, should be down at the 23 yard line.

I am pretty sure the holder, number 87, had his knee down when he picked up the ball.

Darn JVers. I could totally picture that, though.

No way the refs saw him with his knee down though as he picked the ball up. I can't imagine the state overturning the game. And the coach for the winning team was on the sidelines the whole time pointing towards the end zone to his kids, so at least someone had their head on a swivel.

Saw this on Deadspin too.

Then last weekend, Greenville High (the No. 6 team in Pennsylvania AA) had a fourth-and-goal at the 1, with four seconds left in tie game against Oil City. Instead of trying a chip shot field goal, they opted to run it ... and then fumbled the QB-RB pitch. Oil City picked it up and ran 96-yards for the game winner. That hurts.

Why did that kid stop running, the last one giving chase who was fairly close? Did he run out of air? Still bad call by the coaches.

I agree w/ Dark. It looked like he was going to catch him, and maybe he just misjudged how much field he had left to go before the endzone. Regardless, not going for the field goal was a moronic call.

Heh-this one's from right around my hood. I wish I would have gotten the newspaper this weekend.

And in western PA, anyways, kicking a chipshot fg is hardly a given.

Think the angle made it look like he was closer than he was.

This isn't about a tackle made on the field, but a story of a brave kid who didn't flinch.

That kid was on it. probably a stupid thing for him to do, but it works out for him, heh.

Nice of him to save people like that, and put them before himself. But yea, he coulda quite easily died.

Saw this on another site, great act of courage and poise. Too bad his mother wasn't thinking as rationally when she stated his career could have been ended, then threw in or he could have been killed almost as an afterthought.

Just flipping through the Paper. For the record Greenville has one FG and 25XP for the season. Cant find their total attempts though. And is it normal for the top passer de the season to be averaging less than 10 attempts per game? The ratio for the area is at least 6:1 on runs vs passes. Or thereabouts.
