I did, too. Once I went in expecting the bad stuff in a movie like that (lack of any realism, cheesy quotes/dialogue, predictable) and just enjoyed it for what I knew it would have (the action sequences, constant adrenaline rush, stupid humor), it pretty much delivered exactly what I expected.

Is there any part of anybody that thinks there will be people that get so wrapped up into this idea that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy? In other words, enough people, in the right positions decide it really is the end and they make decisions that help to lead it to that point?

There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens...

I have to laugh at those that talk about the polar shifting event. They've shown that its happened numerous times in earth's history, and life is still here, so why would it "end the rowld" or even eliminate humans THIS time?
I expect a Polar shift is going to happen at some point in my lifetime, the guestimates on it say its due anytime. I just wonder why everyone thinks its going to end life as we know it? |

I've never seen a movie that actually makes a theoretical argument and then has the actions in the movie essentially prove it is wrong. Here's the basic situation in an alternate setting: 1. the movie has the protagonist (pro) walk into a wooden house with a lighter. 2. The antagonist (ant) says that lighter could set the house on fire and not to bring it in. 3. The pro says he needs to light a fire to keep the children warm. 4. The pro then sets the house on fire, almost kills everyone, but manages to get the fire out before the worst happens. 5. Everyone in the house claps for the pro and looks disgustingly at the ant for making a comment on the lighter. It was quite amazing to see this in movie form and I tip my hat to the writers for finding a way to show how to sandbag a decision made on good intentions. |
