Thursday, August 24th, 2056: Hit #2500 for Cyclones Kobayashi
What a day for Akinori Kobayashi. The 34-year-old Tokyo second baseman reached the 2500-hit mark today and the Cyclones whipped the Apex Assassins 3-2.

Kobayashi told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2500, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball."

He went 1 for 3 in the game to reach the milestone.

Taking a look at his lifetime stats, Kobayashi is hitting .311 with a total of 182 home runs.

O'Rorke is hitting the ball at a .301 clip over his career. In 2287 games he has delivered 2502 hits, 125 home runs with 983 RBIs and scored 1067 times.

Friday, September 1st, 2056: Jiménez Premier Pitcher in August
Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-0 with a 3.89 ERA, Jesús Jiménez was selected as August's Republic League Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Chico starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Jesús Jiménez definitely contributed to the club. He had 6 starts, throwing 39.1 innings, striking out 30, and holding the opposition to a .261 average.

In 2056 Jiménez has worked 149.2 innings with 104 strikeouts en route to a 10-7 record and 4.81 ERA.

Friday, September 1st, 2056: Velásquez CL Winner, Top Hurler in August
It was a very good month for José Velásquez in August. The 39-year-old veteran starter for the Baltimore Charm outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Velásquez ran up a 5-1 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 41.1 innings he fanned 25 and recorded a 2.18 ERA.

Thus far this season, Velásquez has worked 170 innings with 108 strikeouts en route to a 15-6 record and a 4.02 ERA.

Friday, September 1st, 2056: August's Premier Batter Announced
Leroy Winter, the Baltimore Charm second baseman, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with August's Continental League Batter of the Month award.

Howdy folks. Wasn't sure what I had in Colorado this year. I know our pen should be real good, but other than that I just wasn't sure.

Tuesday, September 5th, 2056: Hawkins Pops 3 Out of the Park Against Hooligans
Fans from Colorado are still buzzing after Colorado whipped the Hooligans 6-4 today at Ballpark of Colorado. Will Hawkins smashed three home runs in the game. This is a feat that few players ever achieve and few fans ever see.

In a tremendous performance the center fielder bashed out 3 hits in 3 at-bats, had 4 RBIs and scored 4 times.

At the postgame press conference, he was asked what it felt like to hit three home runs in one game. Hawkins answered, "To get one homer is special... two is great... three is just unbelievable!"

W. Hawkins hit a solo-shot off J. Pengilly in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Pengilly in the 4th, walked in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Pengilly in the 8th.

Posting a .331 batting average to date, Hawkins has 36 home runs and 126 RBIs.

Friday, September 22nd, 2056: Caster Rips HR Number 300
Chico's outstanding left fielder Aaron Caster joined the 300 home run club today at Rebels Ballpark with a booming blast in the Rebels win over the Heroes. They topped New York 8-1.

On his milestone day Caster had 1 hit in 5 at-bats with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."

Caster has compiled a career batting average of .336 with 1822 hits, 300 homers and 1014 RBIs.

Monday, September 25th, 2056: Sandoval Booms 3 out of the Park
Regardless of where you stand on the "hardest thing to do in sports" argument, one thing everyone can agree on, is that hitting three home runs in one game is quite an amazing feat. That's exactly what Víctor Sandoval did today at Ballpark of Colorado. He went deep three times and carried his team to victory in the Colorado Rancheros 10-7 win over New York.

"It all came together. I was seeing the ball well and I got some good pitches to hit," Sandoval said. "Good things happen, when that happens."

He blistered the Heroes for 4 hits, batted in 8 runs and scored 3 times.

The New York skipper said, "It ain't like we weren't trying. He was hot and really torched my boys today."

V. Sandoval hit a two-run single in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Aitken in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off G. Gómez in the 4th, walked in a run in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off J. Phillips in the 8th.

This year Sandoval has hit 34 home runs and posted a .299 batting average.

This season Cantú is batting at a .355 clip with 39 home runs and 138 RBIs.

Sunday, October 1st, 2056: CL's Best Batter Selected
In the last year of his deal with Edmonton, Raúl Núñez has created some waves by winning September's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .370 batting average with 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 14 walks and a .469 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 27-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

So far this year Núñez has hit .326 with 9 home runs, 45 RBIs and 120 runs scored.

Saturday, October 7th, 2056:6 Hits for Winged Lingerines Koyama
Michio Koyama of the Winged Lingerines was unstoppable in today's 19-5 victory over the New York Heroes at Ann Arbor Grounds. He battered them for 6 hits in 6 at-bats.

"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Ann Arbor second baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 6-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."

M. Koyama singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off J. Phillips in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

Koyama has collected 170 hits for the Winged Lingerines this year, 13 of them home runs. He has also netted 88 RBIs and scored 92 runs while batting .282.

Saturday, October 7th, 2056: Hawkins Pounds HR #300
Rebels catcher Jim Hawkins reached a career milestone yesterday, blasting home run number 300.

He took the achievement in stride. "It's always good to get another home run and even better to get another win," Hawkins told reporters in the postgame interview.

He went 2-4 during the Chico 3-2 triumph over the Colorado Rancheros and scored 1 run with 1 RBI.

Hawkins is batting .274 with 1582 career base hits, including 209 doubles, 8 triples and 300 home runs with 1006 RBIs and 856 runs scored. He has played in 1784 games, stolen 4 bases and compiled a .363 OBP.

Tokyo has a magic number of 4

Hammersmith has clinched both a playoff spot and homefield advantage in the RLCS!

Colorado has a magic number of 2

St. Pete and Chico are both still alive for playoff consideration.

The Pelicans are done with their season and currently are tied in the standings with Tokyo. The Cyclones have two games left in the season and must win both games to clinch a playoff spot. If they split the last two games 1-1, it will force a best of 3 playoff with St. Pete to determine which team makes the playoffs. St. pete will clinch if Tokyo loses both games.

Tokyo win clinches the spot for the Cyclones. A Tokyo loss forces a best of 3 matchup with the Pelicans.

Whew!

That was going to be a huge disappointment to be in 1st most of the season only to lose out in a 3 game playoff. Either way, after the Aitken era has passed it's just nice to be back in the playoff hunt so quickly.

Congratulations to the other playoff teams.

Okamoto hits .251 with 15 Home Runs, ending with 830 for his career. I am sad to say, but as he turns 42 later this year I think he likely will retire after the playoffs.

Aitken on the other hand gets 1 win and 23 Losses to end an otherwise great career most likely. With 357 wins, he will likely end his career 2nd all time in wins.

I think it's conceivable that after the playoffs, Okamoto, Watanabe and Chavez will all retire. That would be 1900 HRs between the three of them. I have to think no threesome has ever retired at the same time with so much power, should it happen.

Congrats to the playoff teams. Some fun races in both leagues. Have to admit, in a sort of evil way, it would have been fun to see a playoff series between Tokyo and St. Pete, or perhaps an end of season series, but a good pennant run is fine, too.

And it's down to me and Tasan once more. I think I finally managed to beat him the last time, but the playoff victories have been far and few between when I have come up against the Rancheros.
