Saturday, September 1st, 2057: August's Premier RL Rookie Named
The whole town is celebrating today in Chico as Orlando Reyes has just been awarded August's Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie left fielder took the award by rapping out 27 hits in 96 at-bats for a .281 batting average. During the month he collected 2 home runs, drove in 26 runs and scored 10 times.

Thus far this year Reyes is hitting .289 with 6 home runs, 71 RBIs and 61 runs scored.

Saturday, September 1st, 2057: Rookie of the Month Winner Announced
A boyish Chet Wood emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Boston deserved the honor, batting .311 with 2 home runs and 15 runs batted in. Is the month of August a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Wood enjoy the limelight.

In 120 games this season Wood is batting .296 with 118 hits and 11 home runs. He has scored 45 runs and driven in 77.

Monday, September 3rd, 2057: Great Stroke: Palmeiro Gets 5 Hits
Today the Settlers downed the Winter Wolves 9-1 as Felipe Palmeiro sprayed hits all over Ballpark of Boston in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

The Boston right fielder said to reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."

F. Palmeiro singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a three-run triple in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Humphrey in the 8th.

This season Palmeiro has hit at a .313 clip with 91 RBIs, 16 home runs and 74 runs scored. He has played in 126 games.

Tuesday, September 11th, 2057: 2500th Hit for Cantú
What a day for Félix Cantú. The 36-year-old Napa Valley left fielder reached the 2500-hit mark today and the Winemakers whipped the Halifax Winter Wolves 4-0.

Cantú told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2500, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball."

He went 3 for 4 in the game to reach the milestone.

Cantú is hitting the ball at a .308 clip over his career. In 2070 games he has delivered 2501 hits, 447 home runs with 1515 RBIs and scored 1604 times.

Hammersmith is getting one hell of a lift from a great rookie season by Zhang Li and an equally impressive sophomore year from Joseph.

Saturday, September 15th, 2057: Okamoto Reaches 4500

In a career spanning 3506 games, Okamoto has batted .316 with 4500 hits, 836 home runs, 2737 RBIs and 2426 runs scored.

That may very well be the last time we see Okamoto's picture on the front page of a newspaper until he is elected to the hall of fame.

The all time career leader in hits has 620 more hits than the 2nd most in FOOL history and nearly 1000 more than 3rd place on the all time hits list

Thursday, September 20th, 2057: Beltrán Socks 500th HR
Luis Beltrán circled the bases and raised his arm in triumph. He had finally hit his 500th home run. It was a homer for a lot of people: himself; his teammates past and present; his former managers and coaches; and especially his family, who sat near the plate cheering his every at-bat during the past few games.

Beltrán spoke with BNN and said, "I knew number 500 would come sooner or later. I had to keep reminding myself, 'Relax, relax, just let it happen, let it happen.' And it finally did."

His milestone homer came in the Hyannis Patriots 4-3 win over the Hartford Harpooners. Beltrán went 2-for-4 in the game, scored 2 runs and batted in 2.

Lifetime Beltrán has played in 2346 games with a .258 batting average. Among his 2144 hits are 427 doubles, 63 triples and 500 home runs. He also has scored 1454 runs and driven in 1600 runs.

Monday, October 1st, 2057: Republic League Announces Best Starter
The Pitcher of the Month Award in September has been selected and the Republic League honor went to Colorado hurler, Vernon Woods. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher.

During the month, Woods was superb with a 1.77 ERA and 4 wins and 1 loss. In 35.2 innings he struck out 28 and gave up 31 hits and 8 walks.

In 2057 Woods has compiled a 19-7 mark with a 3.17 ERA in 31 starts. In pitching 207 innings he has 186 strikeouts and 35 walks while limiting the opposition to a .264 batting average.

Monday, October 1st, 2057: Blanco Top CL Starter in September
Luis Blanco took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in September. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Napa Valley last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.27 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 39.2 innings and striking out 20.

Thus far this season, Blanco has worked 199.1 innings with 112 strikeouts en route to a 12-14 record and a 4.24 ERA.

Way to go Luis!

He outdid Juteau by 42 homers in 750 fewer AB's for the Tokyo All-Time HR mark.

Considering what he's making in Hyannis I really should have brought him back to finish his career in Tokyo.

I don't think enough can be said about what Hammersmith is doing this season. They are outpacing the entire FOOL by 20+ games right now, not just their own league. Amazing.

Monday, October 1st, 2057: Super Month Nets Martínez #1 Batter Prize in RL
Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Mario Martínez can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 34-year-old first baseman for Hartford was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In September he batted .407 with 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

For the year Martínez is batting .320 with 176 hits and 17 home runs. He has scored 96 times and driven in 124.

Monday, October 1st, 2057: CL's #1 Batter Chosen
For the month of September, R.J. Pilgrim of the Apex Assassins has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Continental League pitchers to the tune of a .362 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Pilgrim went 34 for 94 last month with 25 walks. The right fielder tallied 5 home runs, 16 RBIs, 31 runs scored and compiled a .492 on-base percentage.

Pilgrim is hitting .326 in 2057 with 24 home runs, 87 RBIs and 140 runs scored. He has 172 hits in 528 at-bats and played in 148 games.

Monday, October 1st, 2057: Orozco Voted RL's #1 Rookie
The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month honor went to Juan Orozco of Hammersmith. He was chosen as the #1 rookie in September.

Last month the 26-year-old Hooligans left fielder played in 19 games and hit .444 with 8 doubles, no triples and 1 home run. Orozco also scored 11 times and drove in 11 runs.

So far this season Orozco is batting .358 with 7 home runs, 51 RBIs and 68 runs scored. He has 140 hits in 391 at-bats, 52 walks and a .439 OBP. Orozco has played in 123 games.

Monday, October 1st, 2057: Sato Picked September's Best Newcomer
Yasutake Sato was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old right fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen September's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games Sato batted .373 for Apex, slapping 28 hits in 75 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 14 runs and scored 10 times.

Batting .350 to date, Sato has 13 home runs and 77 RBIs.

Usually in FOOL that means a quick first round loss in the playoffs!

Actually, the 3 games between Baltimore and Tokyo are the only to be played between St. Pete, Baltimore, and Tokyo in the final days.

Tokyo and Baltimore both have a magic number of 6

St. Petersburg and Apex are both still mathematically alive in the playoff hunt.

Colorado has a magic number of 4

Hartford and Ann Arbor are both still mathematically alive in the playoff hunt.

The 125 win Montreal team that bowed out early still breaks my heart.

Freaking Napa finished 32 GB and took me out en route to the title.

Wednesday, October 10th, 2057: 2000 Hits for Caster
St. Petersburg's Aaron Caster collected his 2000th career base hit, but Apex collected the win. The Assassins ruined his special day by knocking off the Pelicans 2-1. The 34-year-old left fielder reached the milestone by going 1-for-4 in the game.

In his all-time stats Caster is hitting .332 with 2000 hits, 323 home runs, 1138 runs scored and 1115 RBIs.

Alright!

Congratulations to Chief and Tasan! Seems like it's those two every year.

Never excited to play the Charm in the playoffs. I'm not certain as to my record against them in CL Championship series, but it seems like they normally get the better of it.

Thanks Alan for another excellent season!

Congrats to the playoff bound teams!

As for us, this one was kinda special to me. We started out so piss poor, but just revved up as the season went on. Still, Hammersmith dominated everyone in the RL I bet, and we'll be very long shots to knock 'em off.

Umm...wow?

I thought I had a chance to be good. But no more than normal. I put myself as having a chance to go back to the playoffs, going in.

Okay, gonna have to review this one carefully to see what I did differently this time...

Oh, and to those saying, I'll get swept in the RLCS, yup! You can almost count on it.

Good luck tomorrow, Tasan!
