firefox 3.6

Just got prompted to update. I see from the release notes it came out Jan 21, 2010. Is this the new standard or is it still "in testing"?
Usually someone starts a topic saying it's a go or wait a bit. I tried a search here and found nothing. So, safe to upgrade of should I wait a bit to make sure it's stable?

I usually just install as prompted without any problem. This time I got a message that one of my plugins would be disabled due to an incompatibility, so I'm waiting until that's resolved first.

I made the move to 3.6 last week, and I absolutely love it. The new persona feature (vs. themes) is just geeky-awesome goodness.

FWIW, the plug-ins I use (web developer, Adblock, firebug...a couple of others) have already become 3.6 compliant, so that wasn't an issue for me. If any of those hadn't upgraded yet, I probably would have delayed as well.

The one quirky thing I've noticed is a new set of default tab behaviors. Much like Safari, when you open links in a new tab, it now slots those tabs right behind your active one rather than at the end of all the other tabs you have open. It makes a certain logical sense to do it that way since it clusters related tabs, but it is different and takes some getting used to. I suspect this is just an option I could reset, though.

Only addon I miss is IE Tab.

Otherwise 3.6 seems a bit faster, and I've had no problems.

I'm just now trying Firefox for the first time...I guess my question is...is this really worth the switch from Explorer? In addition, is Firefox secure enough to make purchase, online banking, etc? Just a bit worried switching away from Microsoft I guess.

On one of my machines, 3.6 has a horrible memory leak. On the other one, it runs fine.

Coral IE Tab works for this version and it has a bit more functionality than the standard IE Tab.

Just to update I've installed 3.6 and running fine, no issues.

Not really noticing any speed difference but, like Drake, I'm trying to get used to where the new tabs open.

I finally made the switch to Chrome, cuz pretty much every recent version of firefox gobbles up my resources like nobody's business, and if left open and idle it just keeps eating.

I finally got sick of the new tab position. There is a fix to change the behavior back to the old style. Type in about:config and then change the value of browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false.

I just downgraded to 3.5.8. because of how slow 3.6 was..it was agonizing.

I've had the same problem with every version of Mozilla/Firefox for years. Unfortunately Chrome is/was at least as bad if not worse

edit to add: For me that is, YMMV.

Has anyone heard anything about bugs involving sound with 3.6? I just updated to 3.6 and all of a sudden there's no sound whatsoever on my computer. I wasn't on my computer much yesterday, but I do know I had sound two days ago. Google hasn't pulled up anything that sounds like my issue...

Hah, nevermind. A closer look at the cables under the desk and it appears the cat has chewed through the cable between the speaker and the cpu. I'm gonna strangle that little shit...

3.6 still has the freeze issues I'd been having, but not nearly as many of them. It's an improvement.

3.6 has the annoying new tab "feature" (the fix is posted above) and the IE Tab issue (although there's a replacement out).

those two I was able to fix, but I'm also finding that Netvibes is behaving strangely. not sure if that's a 3.6 issue or just a coincidence, but I might have to go back if something isn't resolved soon
