O Batters Tokyo for 6 Hits
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2063: It was a good day all around. Baltimore whipped Tokyo 15-1 and Ki-moon O displayed a hot bat, enjoying an outstanding 6-hit day at Charm Ballpark.

"Some days, lady luck is on your side," he modestly told BNN reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. Ki-moon is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have."

The 29-year-old shortstop for the Charm collected 6 hits in 6 at-bats to get his name in the record book.

K. O singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

In his season totals O has 2 home runs and a .222 batting average.

Serrano's triple crown is only the second for a hitter since 2035.

Serrano also broke a 67 year old record for the most runs scored in a season, previously held by Tomas Santos.

Chico's Diego Tovar breaks a 92 year old record for the most doubles in a season with 81!! The previous record of 71 was held for almost a century by former Valdosta great Edgardo Reyes

a pitching and hitting triple crown this year. And did I see that right, did I beat the Winemakers 48-3 early in the year.

Thanks Alan! Sorry to make you do pointless work at the beginning of this season. I'll do all of my team preparations from now on (as it is clear that I won't actually be getting better regardless of who I sign).

Congrats you playoff FOOLs. I hate being down here at the bottom, so don't count on me being here much longer.

congrats, Boston for beating me. I knew I was toast after that abysmal FA period. After I lost all those pitchers I got slammed at work and had no time to recover

I have no idea how we did it either. We had to release Winter just to make ends meet so not quite sure but we will take it. This year is even trickier.

I have no problem doing pre-season set ups for folks. If I gave the impression that I did, I apologize. It is no problem at all. I just usually try to let folks know about how long to expect to wait for the season to start up is all

Congrats to the playoff teams.

And again, the Hooligans grade out as one of the two best teams in the RL (Pyth record, i.e. run differential), and again, third year in a row, we finish out of the running. I have to figure this out, see if I can get why we can average the best or second best run diff, and not have that end up with more wins. It's pretty annoying. If I am going to lose, I wish the team was just bad. At least than I know I have things I need to work on. With this team, I keep looking at them and thinking, "How in the heck does this team keep losing?"

Well, at least I get a couple weeks to try to figure it out.

Oh no, you never gave that impression at all. I just hate to add to the workload because you already do enough for us.

Speaking of which I wonder if I might bring up something.
I was stung two seasons ago by the rule that says you can't move people up and down from the minors as a preseason move. I would like to see this changed at least maybe with restrictions. What is happening to me is that it is hard to actually sign people in FA. I keep either getting rejected or someone beats me or I am just unavailable to send in a FA on one of the nights, so often I find myself having to make FA bids at the very last chance (over the weekend) and having to post lots of instructions like "IF I SIGN THIS GUY, PLEASE move this other guy to backup", etc. What I tried doing in that instance was I had a minor league guy in RF and tried to sign Hidalgo. I didn't really want to play the minor league guy yet, so I left instructions that if Hidalgo signed, place the minor league guy in AAA instead (leaving explicit instructions) so he could get some more training. What happened was I signed Hidalgo , Hidalgo was moved to RF as instructed, but because of this rule, the minor leaguer was just left in the majors without a position or backup position. and thus hurt his development as he had very little playtime/training.

So I wish to beg that this rule be adjusted to allow us to leave instructions to bring a minor leaguer up from AAA or send one down for cases involving possible free agent acquisitions. Maybe a limit of one or two. Am assuming the rule was put in place to avoid having Alan have to rearrange everybody's minor leagues, but just want this to apply to whenever FA potential signings are involved.

The rule was actually in place from before I was commish, so I can't give the exact reasons for the rule at the time (My memory is not good enough to remember them all at this point), but I can tell you some of the benefits of keeping this rule.

It does help keep me from having to make guesses at who to send down or who not to. It helps keep me from having to make even more moves than I do at the start of the season. (It probably is a fine line that I don't want people to feel that I am being -inconvenienced- by making pre-season moves, but I also don't want it to end up being open season for me having to spend 1 hour prior to the start of every season making a ton of moves.

Right now the regular season sim is already the longest one of the week for me (roughly 3 hours spent), of which 30 minutes is usually trying to get teams legal or follow pm instructions prior to the start of the season. Ideally I really don't want to have that amount of time increase really. So I think if someone can come up with a way to modify the rule to give owners more flexibility without killing me on monday nights, I am open to suggestions by all means, but I really don't want to add more work for minimal gain there.

I think additional things this rule helps is it prevents speculation signings. Where one team tries to sign 6 different FAs just to get one, and then send in instructions on rearranging a ton of other stuff. That allows other teams to have shots at perhaps the 3rd tier FAs being signed right at the start of the season.

OOTP clearly has some pretty easy wiggle room that a team with only 23 or 24 players isn't going to absolutely kill you, so I'm not overly eager to change this rule, but like I said I'm open to discussions and creative thinking here if the majority would like it changed.

Congrats and good luck to the other playoff teams. I would feel much better about our chances if our bullpen's ERA wasn't around 7.00!!

I fielded a horrific team in anticipation of a #1 pick but two others suck more than I do. Bummer.

Congrats to the playoff teams.

The origins of that rule stemmed precisely from what Alan said. In the very beginning, there was never a concept of instructions before the start of the season.

Live sims were even a side effect of the league's growth over time, because we didn't start out with those either.

But eventually people would start to ask for a single change here or there via PM. This was fine. Eventually, it became unwieldy and now some nearly 100 yrs later it's the soup de jour.

I think the various ways people have adapted their styles to the game is interesting, but it's super important to note that the pedantic details that might benefit you in a slowsy league are 95 percent of the time not going to benefit you in a fast-sim environment.

It's not entirely a crapshoot, but the skill involved in winning in a league like this is a bit overblown. It's really about developing a strategy that works for you and I think recognizing weaknesses in your league relative to your personnel. It's what makes franchises like Valdosta, Hammersmith or Colorado and even Hartford and Baltimore impressive because of how much winning they're able to sustain over a long period of time even if it doesn't result in titles.

I like the balance we have right now with the rule as it stands. It allows for some movement and change, without crossing the line into being too much for Alan to handle.

I wouldn't mind expanding it slightly to allow for the addition of a player from AAA if a FA offer doesn't work out, but that would be about the only change.

I hear ya on your situation there, CF. It takes some figuring to get used to how to handle it. It's one reason why I keep guys around in the minors who are probably not going to make it to my major league squad in any normal year--they give me backup options in case these free agent spots don't work out or cap space gets uber tight and I can't fill out the roster with top quality talent. This is a good spot for you to consider having a throwaway decent backup OF around, so you don't have to put your prospect up there too early. After all, most of the time, these backups (when set to "If Starter Tired") are lucky to get 50-100 at bats. How good they are isn't going to make or break your season (usually).

I would definitely be interested in allowing a minor leaguer to be elevated to the bigs when a FA offer doesn't happen, though. That's always been the one change I thought was a reasonable request, and that wouldn't be too terribly burdensome for Alan.

I don't know. The one thing I've realized is that you can do well (and even win!) time and time again without having a full major league roster. I think that your minors backup idea is good, but then promote the guy early and have him switched out if you sign an FA. Then maybe have one less MR or something and go into the season with 24 guys.
