Three killed by World War II bomb in Germany

WORLD War II bomb killed three people trying to defuse it and injured six others in Goettingen, central Germany, today.

The incident occurred as specialists tried to make the 1000kg device safe after workers discovered it while working on the construction of a sports stadium.

All the victims were involved in the clearance operation, said a police statement, which offered no further details.

Bombs left over from the war are routinely discovered in Germany, with four found over the past two months in Berlin alone, according to press reports.

I lived in West Germany for 9 years as a kid, in 3 different 3 year stints. Coming back to the states after the second stay, we were leaving out of Frankfurt International. At the time, they were expanding the airport. We all had to evacuate the terminal when construction workers unearthed some unexploded WWII munitions. Boy was that fun. I think that time they successfully disarmed the bombs.
