Yay!!!

Tom Izzo turns down Cavaliers job: 'I am here for life at Michigan State' | MLive.com

Izzo's staying. This makes me happy.

Lebron can stick it up his ass.

It wouldn't have felt quite as good winning the Big Ten without Izzo at MSU here at Purdue...

I think this is probably a bad sign re: LeBron's future at Cleveland.

I'm disappointed because I think he is clearly a 5 win upgrade/season over Mike Brown.
izzo couldn't be guaranteed LeBron so he made a good call here.

If he is a MSU coach for life, why entertain another offer?

Maybe this process made him realize?

I think he's the type of guy who really had to think it through and hadn't done so before. Barring something crazy (MSU stuck in the Sun Belt, death penalty from the football program, death of a wife, etc), I bet he's there when he retires.

How did you know Izzo would bring 5 more wins? It seems like very good college coaches struggle big time in the NBA. I don't understand why LeBron would even care whether Izzo was coming to town or not. I would think he cares more about his supporting cast on the floor.

Izzo wasn't promised LeBron. Izzo made the right call to stay.

How many college coaches have walked into a job with the roster that (with LeBron) Izzo would have had? I think the key factor in the college coaches not making the jump successfully has been the fact that they've inherited awful rosters, for the most part.

I'm glad to see him stay. MSU is my second-favorite b-ball team in the Big 10. Glad he came to his senses.

No matter how happy I am with my job, if someone offers me a job that pays me double, I'd find it hard not to at the very least entertain said offer.

Good news for college basketball fans. Glad to see Izzo staying in the college ranks. The NBA is a waste of a great college coach.

Heard his interview on Mike & Mike this morning. What a class guy. Asked how much the money influenced his decision...how much not knowing about Lebron's status affected his decision and he answered very honestly. He said, of course money matters....Lebron's status matters...but when it was all said and done I want to be at MSU. How refreshing to hear a coach just say that these things matter. I'm a huge Iowa fan but I really have a lot of respect for Izzo. His teams are always fundamentally sound and he seems like a solid individual.

Dola-One statement I keep hearing concerning coaching movement is "if he wants to try and win at the highest level, he should do it."

I'm not so sure I buy into this. For example, college hoops and the NBA are totally different games. College involves year round recruiting and often babysitting young players (among other things). NBA coaches have to deal with huge egos, rich, selfish players, etc. Are the NBA players more talented? Definitely. The game is different though. But saying that the college coaches aren't at the highest level almost has a connotation that they are winning Little League titles (extreme example but you know what I mean). Like I said, pro basketball (and football) players are the best in the world. But, in all fairness, we are talking completely different games/responsibilities as far as coaching goes.

It brought me great joy to see this article this morning. Izzo is about as beloved a sports figure I have (serious, I don't recall any player being as amazingly interesting to me as Coach Izzo is).

I couldn't help but wish the best to him if he took the Cleveland job, to be honest I think he has earned the right to take down 6 million a year if he feels like it. But I'm ecstatic that he will be at MSU, I think he is a living legend of the game and I know it would be hard for him to get the same level of dedication or fanatic fan base anywhere else without a lot of time and work.

I'm looking forward to basketball season more than ever now, this has all the makings of a historic season. I think coach may be slightly more interested in proving himself than before, and this team is chomping at the bit to take down the trophy (two Final Fours in a row after all and most of the team retained).

EDIT: Not that Izzo wouldn't have been motivated this season anyway, the dude thinks he has a Final Four team if he has a couple scholarship players and a few walk ons... or at least he treats em that way until he's squeezed what he can out of them.

If it was possible for Izzo to have more of my respect before this, he has it now. Not only has he turned down Cleveland's offer, but he has effectively told the entire NBA "I'm not interested, don't bother me." I'm very glad to know that Izzo will be a constant at MSU until the day he decides to retire.

Way to go Tom.
