Extended HVAC Warranties..........
I have the option to buy an extended 10 year warranty on my Trane Dual Fuel Furnace and Heat Pump for around $700. Worth it?? I'm thinking I probably should.

How long is the standard warranty? If you have a couple of years already, that should be enough time to see if the unit is defective.
My limited experience with HVAC is that if you keep your unit clean, you can probably get ten years out of it without any major repairs. But that is just my limited sense of things. |

That sounds expensive to me. How much was the entire unit?
Do you have to have a certified Trane tech service it once or twice a year for the warranty to be valid? Is there a deductible? |

Yes, we decided against it (our one year anniversary in our new house is tomorrow), you have to have it serviced once a year to keep the warranty void.
