World Cup 2010 Predictions Game - MikeVic is our winner!

Based off a predictions tourney I used to be in, I've whipped up a predictions game for us here.

WARNING: I coded this in about an hour, it's down and dirty, I'm sure you can break it, please don't.

Anyway! Rules!

Each group stage game has been listed. You are to pick the score of each game. Simple enough? Should be. Scoring gets a bit more complicated.

SCORING
Scoring is based on a base number of points awarded for each correctly predicted winner - if the home team wins, the base point value is 20. If the away team wins (or it is a draw), the base point value is 30.

You then subtract 3 points for each goal you are off in your prediction. An exact score gains you a large point value:
Spot-On Home Win: 30 points
Spot-On Away Win or Draw: 50 points

If you choose the wrong winning team / draw, you LOSE points based off how many goals you were off in your prediction.

EXAMPLES
Mexico (home) vs South Africa (away). You predict the score as 3-2 Mexico.
The final score is 2-0 Mexico. Your score for that game would be as follows:
20 points (home win)
-3 points for 1 missed goal for Mexico.
-6 points for 2 missed goals for South Africa.
11 total.

France (home) vs Uruguay (away). You predict 1-2 Uruguay. The final score is 3-0 France. You would lose the following number of points:
-6 for 2 missed goals for France.
-6 for 2 missed goals for Uruguay.
-12 total.

Greece (home) vs South Korea (away). You predict a 0-0 draw. It is, in fact, a 0-0 draw. You gain 50 points for a spot-on draw prediction. Had you of picked a 1-1 draw, you would have gained 24 points (30 - 6 points for the 1 missed goals).

And yes. You can pick a winner, and still lose enough points to go negative.

SITE IS HERE:
World Cup Pick'em 2010

STANDINGS PAGE
World Cup Pick'em 2010 - Standings

Pop a user name in, and select a 4 digit PIN. Make your picks, and hit the submit button at the bottom.

NOTE: I was nice. You can edit your picks up until the start of the first game.

NOTE 2: Please be respectful. Like I said, I wrote this really fast, and there are no protections for entering like, 50 times. Please don't. 1 entry per person, please. Don't submit entries under someone else's username or any of that shit either.

The ENTRIES page (World Cup Pick'em 2010) will let you review your picks, and, once the games start (and I update the results), view your score. Enter the username and PIN you provided, and hit the 'view picks' button.

Now fielding questions, hope this works well!

edit: I also note, I chose the 'home' team based off of who I, in my not-so-scientific-and-certainly-not-a-soccer-expert opinion, believe stands a better chance of winning the match.

You realize I have no choice but to belittle you endlessly if the freakin' Football Manager guy finishes near the bottom.

Annnd...the entries page (World Cup Pick'em 2010) will now allow you to edit your picks, up until I turn it off Friday. Put in your username/pin, and edit your picks till your heart's content.

Quotes this for emphasis. I was puzzled by the home/away team concept at first, I doubt I'm the only one.

Just curious why there is a difference for home and away when their is only one "real" home squad.

It could easily be renamed "favorite" and "not favorite". The overall purpose is to award more points for correctly predicting an upset.

Standings page is now moved to World Cup Pick'em 2010 - Standings

You may click on anyone listed and see their picks.

Annnd...useless stats department.

12 of 17 entries picked Mexico over South Africa, with only 2 picking a South African win.
5 entries picked USA over England.
Exactly one person predicted a North Korea win...in any of their 3 matches.
If FOFC knows anything, Brazil should obliterate North Korea. 5 people picked Brazil to score > 4 goals, with 11 picking 4 goals.

Just a ball (not) on the post away from a perfect score.

Early leads for bhlloy, Radii, and Cards4Ever. Router Help has thus far the most correct predictions, but 2 spot ons for bhlloy has gotten him 1st place.

As for me...I'm not last?

How about that off-side goal + injury time goal combo to boost me up to third place?

Ok I will be last soon myself if todays run of results continue - Was smiling happily when Nigeria was 1-0 up .... then they threw that away in style quickly followed by France, I mean I thought I was brave putting Mexico at a draw but France were dismal and Mexico looked very good indeed imho.

Congrats to MikeVic who's just taken the lead on a good couple of calls there

(my big weakness has been over-estimating the African teams performances in this competition ... thought this might be their 'coming of age' ... but apparently not quite yet, they've shown some great technique but lack the clinical finishing and their defenses aren't quite robust enough)

I'm pretty sure you're in with a good chance - I can't beat you know as our final predictions are identical I believe .. which really leaves Jake as your biggest threat, if he can get an identical result on the final match (which he's tipped as a draw) then he might over-turn you yet ..
