I took Brazil. Argentina too defensively questionable.
Could also see Germany. |

I'm putting all my eggs in Spain's basket. I think this is finally their year. Villa has been amazing.

I took Spain. I think they match up with anyone on talent, and I think they can out Brazil the Brazilians. But Germany is my dark horse. I think Argentina may have a forward line for the ages, but that defense scares me, especially if someone scores an early goal.

The Dutch have just been very quietly rolling through the entire World Cup. I think they're going to continue to do so with a surprisingly little amount of fanfare.

My pre-cup pick was Germany. I'm sticking with it.
Embarrassingly, this is based as much on my heritage as it is upon my almost complete lack of soccer knowledge. |

I picked Argentina, but really it could be them, or Spain, or Germany, or Brazil, or the Netherlands. Lots of talent in these pairings.

I picked Brazil. I think they'll get two or three goals on the average Dutch defense and cruise past whoever wins the Uruguay - Ghana game. They just have an easier road to the final than some of the other impressive teams (like Germany/Argentina perhaps having to beat Argentina/Germany, Spain, and Brazil to win the cup.) Spain has the second best chance of winning, they should beat Paraguay in the quarters and have the most talent of any team imo. A Brazil - Spain final would be pretty cool.

I think that the winner of Germany/Argentina will beat the winner of Netherlands/Brazil in the final.
Uruguay 3rd, beating Spain in the playoff. |

I really want to see the Netherlands win, even though I am not a big Sniejder fan.

Argentina's keeper is eventually going to have to make stops and that worries me.
Not a shocking pick, but Brazil wins again.

I'm pulling for the Dutch, then Germany. Never been a fan of South American teams....but considering they have 4 of 8 left, it'll probably be one of them.
Have a feeling it's an all SA final. Maradona finallly goes nuts and Brazil beats Argentina. |

An all red-white-and-blue final between Oranje and Paraguay would be sweet.

I hope Argentina or Brazil.
I really hope the Dutch don't win, such a boring team to watch IMO*. (*note: working for a Dutch-owned company also makes it difficult to cheer for them )

Very tough call, but I'm going with the new-look German team - they are fast, creative and cohesive. Would actually like to see the Dutch win, but I don't think that's very likely.

Uruguay.
Solid ballclub all around with good coaching and some playmakers. Suarez gets the attention but Forlan is as dangerous as Messi with the ball.

Think that Brasil will win it, their defense has been stellar and their offense can always produce when called upon iīd say.
Donīt think the german team has a real shot, think their youth and inexpereince will show at some point like it did against Serbia. They will likely have to go through Argentina, Spain and then Brasil/Netherlands, donīt see that happen unfortunately ... Another problem is that 6 starters, in a team thatīs not terribly deep once you get to the bench, have a yellow in the books and iīd be shocked if all (or even 5 of them) would get out of the Argentina game unscathed. No way could they adequately replace Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Friedrich or Özil. Maybe Müller (but heīs been brilliant so far) or Khedira (but no DM left in the roster) I donīt think any of Uruguay, Paraguay or Ghana have a shot at it. With all respect to those teams, solid (even solid all around) doesnīt win a world cup.

So glad I was wrong about Brazil. Still holding out for a Dutch-German final. That would be a great one.

I too am happy to have been wrong about my pick. Brazil have won enough World Cups for now and this year's Brazilian team isn't as cool/fun to watch as some previous editions.

Germany have to win it - if only so us English can state that we'd have made it to the final if only we hadn't bumped into the eventual winners early on
