Exterior house colours
Hi FOFC!
My parents want to paint the exterior of their house (yes the house with only one door, ftw) but can't agree on a colour and it's causing problems, so I have to step in now. The house has white stucco walls with parts of it being wood (painted brown currently). There is a brown brick chimney, and the shingles are brown. One parent wants to re-paint it brown, and another parent wants to paint it blue. I think the exterior needs to match the roof somewhat, but maybe a darker blue could work. I'm looking for your advice on this, as it would calm that household down quite a bit if I suggested something since they're both very stubborn. Thank you! |

Why does the house have to match the roof? Then everyone's house would be brown or gray.

Painting wood drives me up a freakin wall. With a brown roof/chimney, I'd be more likely to go with a shade of yellow/brown myself. I just have a hard time envisoning blue. I wouldn't go with all brown though.

I just did a quick google search and that's what came up, the roof should be considered with the exterior colours. I should have clarified that the colours don't have to be the same, they just have to go together. One thing about blue too, is that the interior carpet and couches are light blue so maybe that should be factored in.
A couple of houses near-by painted theirs green, and they look nice, but my parents don't want another green house on the street. |

I'm far from a paint color expert, but I can say with confidence that you shouldn't paint it the same color as the roof (or even close to the roof color)

there is a good application for this
Color Selection Tool, Personal Color Viewer®, Benjamin Moore Paints This allows you to upload a picture of the room, and then you can change the color. We used this software when painting the outside of our house, and it worked great

Light blue carpet? Eek.
I think blue could be fine depending on the shade of blue. Blue and brown definitely go together. It was actually very popular for interiors (bed linens and such) a few years ago.

I can't tell for sure if those are gray or brown shingles.

paint it rainbow? or neon?
Nah honestly I think Dark Blue would be better then the lighter blueish color above but maybe a light yellow /not really yellowish but offwhiteish would be nice?
