Good Thoughts/Prayers Requested
Long story short, my mom's in the hospital and they're pretty sure it's meningitis (just waiting for fuller results from spinal tap to be 100% sure). She's in ICU tonight and I almost broke down multiple times today. I'm just glad it wasn't an aneurysm, but it's still not great news, especially with other medical issues she has.
Going to put a bit of a damper on tomorrow's family reunion. If it is meningitis like they believe, she'll be in the hospital at least a week.

I've read up on bacterial meningitis before, and it sounds like nasty stuff. I hope she makes a full recovery mang.
My thoughts are certainly with you and yours.

I had viral meningitis that progressed to encephalitis in 2002, so I have some appreciation for what she's going through. It sucked, but I made a full recovery somewhere around the 18-24 month mark.
Your mom will definitely be in my prayers, Izulde. |

Thanks everyone.
My dad, sister and I went in to see her this morning and we found out that it's strep meningitis, non-contagious, and treatable but the full results from the testing won't be back for a couple days. This was a huge relief for all of us, but especially for my dad, who freaked out last night when he heard. Evidently his nephew died of meningitis when he was 12 and it used to be a really bad sign when my dad was on the rescue squad and meningitis was the verdict. The bad news was, she was still out of it and we couldn't touch her, talk to her, or make any noise, because of how sensitive she still was to any sort of stimulus, to the point where it'd fire nerve endings in the brain and cause pain and agitation. So we were only there a few minutes before we left. Then we had the family reunion, which went well. Afterwards, my dad and I decided to head up to the hospital again and we found out that she's much improved, to the point of being coherent and able to talk some. She was extremely upset to have missed the reunion and to hear that she'd be a week in the hospital, but it's still a huge step forward IMO from this morning, even, to say nothing of last night.

Izulde, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
I had PDPH last year after post-surgery complications. It was the worst thing I've ever experienced. Menengitis is x10 of that... so I feel for your mom. I hope she recovers well.
