Samurai Swords (or Shogun)
Since the game was mentioned a while back, when someone mentioned the TV series Shogun...
Is anyone interested in starting a PBEM game of this? I love the game, but can never find enough people willing to sit for the long long time it takes to play. I'd volunteer enough to be sort of the 'commissioner' (at least for the first few games), taking in everyone's koku allocations, working out attacks individually, etc. The pace of the game would be incredibly slow, but I think it would be well worth it. Anyone interested? |

I would definitely play. I haven't gotten a group together to play that for years.

I stood up real late when I was a kid to watch Shogun. Memories. Wow.

Does that mean you'd be interested, too, Anxiety?

Did this die a deadly death? I am still interested in playing.

No, this is not dead. I'm interested in getting it going, but I'm leaving for the weekend, starting tomorrow. When I get back, I'll send an email to interested parties (I haven't counted, but I think I have more than 6 mildly interested parties, so we should be able to fill the trays).
So no, it's not dead. But have patience -- it will be needed, once we actually start playing! Oh, I also found this really cool site called www.irony.com -- it looks like you can go to the site, roll a bunch of dice, and mail the results. I think that it will be very useful in letting people complete their battles without me having to be there to reply. |

I can't believe it's been almost seven years since I made this thread. Anyway, I found a place where you can play Samurai Swords online: http://sdtaulbee.members.winisp.net/Shogun/default.aspx It looks pretty cool so far -- I've joined a game, and we're just starting the first movement phase (we've finished the initial setup, which they do in less turns than the board game does to save time). You have to get in the database to play, which you can do by joining the yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SSSPG/ Any FOFCers want to play? I'd give it a look - never played before, but I oh so love Axis & Allies (among other games in that genre)

I like Axis & Allies too, but IMO Samurai Swords blows it out of the water, because it's less straightforward. In A&A, you know who's on what side, and the setup is the same every time. But with Samurai Swords, it's every player for themselves, which leaves more room for diplomacy.

I bought Shogun when I was 18 and never did get a chance to play it all the way through to the end. I doubt I've opened the box in more than a decade.
I might be persuaded to play. What is the pacing of the turns, typically? |

It probably depends on how often people are online, but it seems like everyone is doing an action once per day or so.

Submitted my membership request. At worst, we can get a few people here and just do a laid-back learn-the-ropes game to get started.

Of course, now I'm tempted to write my own version of this.

Are people still up for this? The two games I started playing when I joined the site just ended (won one, lost one in embarrassing fashion), so I'm ready to start a new one if anyone here is game!

I've never tried anything like this before, but I'd be willing to give it a shot as long as people don't mind dealing with a newb.

Newbies are definitely welcome! It looks like CW is in the group already, so when 2-3 more get in, I'll start a game.
