The guy in Arizona scooping ice cream with his bare hands kinda freaked me out.

That and also the Florida arena with gas boilers improperly wired....just...wow.

I'm amazed the Lions only scored a 70% in critical violations.

Note to self, don't go to sporting events in Florida.

Yeah, it's all about Chicago .

Christ, these ratings probably just come down to the competency of the inspectors.

Probably shouldn't have read this 2 days before going to CitiField, of course, odds are it isn't the lack of food hygiene making the fans vomit.

That's one thing I love about the Orioles park, you can bring your own food in if you desire. Saves money, much healthier.

Chicago not looking bad either.

Seems a bit overblown by ESPN. These seem like problems you'd find at any restaurant or grocery store. Anyone who has worked in food service knows the disgusting secrets behind what we eat.

Wait, I'm confused. Do not all ballparks let you bring in your own food like they do in DC?

Turner Field you can bring in your own food, or you can just hit the Vortex in L5P before the game (or Fox Bros) and you won't need anything else.

I agree. I mean, you look at the term "critical violation" and think it's something serious, but then you see this:

Quote:
Tropicana Field
Tampa Bay Rays
Vendors with critical violations: 100%

Inspection report excerpt: Several violations addressed dirty countertops, utensils and equipment. Although every report indicated a critical violation, all vendors met basic inspection standards to keep operating.

Um...what? If it's critical, shouldn't that term/phrase be used for something that would/should shut the place down? If it's not Operation Shutdown, then it's not critical, IMO.

Then why is that considered a "critical" violation?

I worked in a meat department for three years, and I'm rather positive we would have no real issues with inspections. For no other reason than I was the one who did most of the cleaning.

I still can't shake from my mind that 20/20 undercover investigation from the early 90s they did about Food Lion, a grocery store that I think is operated only in the south. They had a guy get a job in their meat department and put a camera in his hat, and he recorded all sorts of stuff - managers telling them to FUCKING BLEACH bad meat to get rid of the smell and put it back on the shelves, for instance. I remember Food Lion used to be a big sponsor of Jefferson-Pilot ACC games, and every time I'd see that idiot president of theirs with his stupid smile, I'd think of that show. I'm not sure how they stayed in business.

Of course, I remember working in a grocery store in high school when the milk delivery wasn't made, so the boss had me and another guy sit in the cooler and use nail polish remover to wipe off the sell-by dates of the remaining gallons of milk so they could keep them on the shelves. That was fun. "Mom, if you want milk this week, I'd suggest getting it someplace else."

Huh - googled that Food Lion incident and it was for PrimeTime Live, not 20/20. And ABC was sued and lost to Food Lion for the way they did the investigation (apparently lying on resumes to get the jobs and for concealing mics/cameras, I guess).

I thought so, too, but there DID re-brand into two, one "higher-end" (Bloom) and one "lower-end" (whose name escapes me but was FILTHY the one time I went into one).

Then again I have 2 Wegmans in close proximity so that's where I go.

Exactly. Critical...I don't think this word means what the inspectors think it means. That or the inspection department needs to strengthen their resolve/purpose.
