Has Anyone Done the Quadfecta?
With the expansions and everything, you can take a nation from Europa Universalis: Rome to Crusader kings to EUIII to Victoria to Hearts of Iron 2, and take a nation from 280 BC through 1964. Has anyone actually done it on here? How did that work out?

I couldn't stand EU:Rome long enough to even make it through ever unfortunately.
I know some folks on the paradox boards have done it, but I'm primarily an EU3 player. CK lasted quite a while for me interest wise, but Vicky and HoI never did a ton for me either. |

I can't imagine HoI2 would be playable without the events firing. If the world map is so significantly altered (as it always is in EU games), no way any events will fire reasonably.

I've thought about, but haven't looked enough into the various converters. I know Victoria has a built in one for HoI2. I tried it once and it made all of the vassals I had in Vic:R free nations in HoI2, so that was a major problem I had with it. As for any of the other games converters, I haven't tried any of them (either built in or 3rd-party). I'm hoping that with Vic2, since they will all be the same engine, that it will be easy to go from EU3 to Vic2 to HoI3. And if they get around to CK2 using the same engine, that'll make all of their games on the same engine and hopefully make it a smooth transition between games. |

Do you mean you can import saved games from one to the other? That does sound neat.

Not inherently , but people have written converters that modify the save file for import into the next game chronologically. Problem with it that I have encountered at times, is if you have played some of these games really in depth it creates the save file to be simply huge and cause the converter issues. It isn't perfect, but some people enjoy doing it. |

Ah, I found the thread. This is what I want to do. Should I get the Vae Victis expansion for Rome? And for CK and EU3, I probably need the complete versions, right? It looks like the CK Complete includes DV, but I don't know what else EU3 Complete includes.
And why is it called a quadfecta when there are five games? 1. EU Rome 2. CK 3. EU3 4. Victoria 5. Hearts of Iron 2 |

You should definitely get Vae Victis, it improves Rome a good deal I thought. And EU3 you don't necessarily NEED all the expansions, but I'd recommend it. EU3 by itself is a good game. EU3 + NA + IN + HttT = a GREAT game. I don't think they have any packages yet that include all three expansions, so you'd likely need to get EUIII Complete + HttT. CK Complete does include DV. Also, if you're going to play Victoria I then don't forget the Revolutions expansion. Much better game I thought, easier to get into. Of course, if you're just starting this then by the time you get to the end of EU3 then Victoria 2 ought to be out. So you may want to grab that as it looks very very good. Personally I wouldn't really include EU:Rome, as there is such a huge gap between it and CK. Unless you have your CK game start much earlier or something. And even if you do, there will be what? Maybe three or four massive empires at the most with a couple of tiny states that haven't been conquered yet? |

Thanks! I hadn't noticed how big the gap is from EU Rome to CK. And doing some research, it looks like it's not really true that you can convert saves from EU Rome to CK -- or maybe you technically can, but no one's ever tried it. I guess I'll stick with CK Complete (which appears to be CK plus DV) and EU3 Complete (which I think is just EU3 plus IN and NA), then figure out where to go if I finish those. |

You should first make sure that the converts work for whichever version you go with. I've never bothered doing that sort of thing so I have no idea, but from CK/DV to only EUIII or only NA or something. They may not even have one for DV.
Although I would expect any to go from DV to IN though, so you should be okay there. From EUIII to Victoria 2 it probably won't take too long before they have a converter, but again you'll need to be careful what what versions it's converting from. They may only go from HttT to Vicky 2. As for EU:Rome, even if there were a converting I'm not sure how well it would do. You've got around a thousand year gap in between and, more importantly, nothing to simulate the fall of the Roman Empire in between. You'd end up with a few big blobs from then on to HoI. That wouldn't be fun. Personally I'd like to see an expansion to Rome that takes it up to the fall of the Empire and then a Dark Ages game to cover the period in between Rome and CK. Now that would be freaking epic! |

EU:Rome was one of the biggest disappointments ever.

So now that I have CK and DV, do I need to install the 1.05 patch for Crusader Kings? Is there a patch for DV?

There's a DVIP, which while not an official patch, is, I believe, an improvement on vanilla.

There's something about a 2.1 beta patch... should I get that + the DVIP?

I would assume so, although I don't know for sure. It's been a long time since I've played CK.

I believe DVIP requires the latest DV patch + beta patch. I should say in the instructions for the mod.

Okay, I've got CK working, and I'm ready to try the quadfecta! Started up a game in 1066, as Nubia. Dynasty to come hopefully.
