Comic Greg Giraldo dead at 45
Following an reportedly accidental prescription drug overdose.
I recognized the name from his frequent celebrity roast appearances on Comedy Central. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/164...29/story.jhtml

the last time i heard him interviewed (year ago maybe?) was on opie and anthony and they were on the verge of an intervention because he was so strung out. |

Greg Giraldo was so unpopular that when he died nobody knew who the fuck he was.

This was spooky, spooky shit this afternoon. Was discussing the CC roasts at lunch and how he's by far the best of the regulars, looked at some clips on my phone, then I get back the office and look him up on Wikipedia, and it had just been edited. "oh I didn't know he was dead... holy crap that's today" Figured somebody had wikijacked his page but for once, it was for real.
Incredibly funny guy who never hit the mainstream the way some of his contempories did. RIP. |

This is truly a bummer. He absolutely killed at those roasts. Just destroyed fools. He went after Larry the Cable Guy and you could just feel the animosity and contempt Giraldo had for those Rednecks of Comedy or whatever. Damn shame.

Terrible to see that kind of talent wasted. He was an extremely funny guy. As funny as he was on those roasts, they should do a posthumous roast of him on Comedy Central to honor him. It would be only fitting for a guy who had some of his greatest moments grilling others in public.

At least he went out on a good note - he killed the Hoff on the last CC Roast.
Was listening to Raw Dog on XM this morning and they had some comedian who has opened for him the last 4 or so years on talking about him, and he said the guy was brilliant and could perfectly analyze life situations - dependency issues, relationships, etc. - for others, but could never take his own advice (drug user, divorced twice, etc.). Oh, and I'm pretty sure it was completely unintentional and not meant to be funny, but Sonny Fox, in the intro, said "Unless you've been in a coma for a day, you probably know that Greg Giraldo is dead." Whoops.

He was also great on Tough Crowd - a decent show if you could get past Colin Quinn stuttering over every opening. |

You notice I said he went out on a good note, not a "high" note. I thought that might be in poor taste.

The "Gary Busey looks like Nick Nolte fucked a Clydsdale" line was awesome. And true.

<3 Gilbert. What fascinates me most about Giraldo dying is it is yet another comedian Artie Lange has out lived. Remarkable really. Giraldo though was great, especially on Tough Crowd. |

I'm sure at the inevitable posthomous Giraldo roast (likely with a real/fake urn on the throne) someone will make that point.

Not to speak ill of the recently deceased, but for as good as he was on the CC roasts, he was so profoundly worthless [along with all the other judges] on Last Comic Standing.
Unfortunately, I think that it the only thing of his the mainstream population knows. |
