First New Post Button - WTF?

For the past week or so, the First New Post button has taken me back anywhere from 10 days to over a month in every thread I click on the button. Is anyone else having this problem, and how do we fix it? I tried marking the entire forum as read, but that hasn't worked. In the Images thread, it repeatedly takes me back about 6 or 7 pages every time I click on the button. That's the primary way I view posts on this board, so it's incredibly frustrating.

Have you recently upgraded IE?

It has been doing that to me lately and I narrowed it down to starting about the time I upgraded IE.

Could be - I upgrade to IE9 about a month ago.

No problem for me with Firefox 3.6.17. Sometimes it goes back a post or two, but never the amount you are talking about.

I haven't had any issues here with IE9, but I've had trouble with "New Posts" on a few other vbulletin forums.

IE9 has been doing this since I upgraded to it for me on Win7 x64. It's fine on Win7 x64 IE8 at work. Given how borked the "thread has been read" feature is on here anyway, I've just been dealing with it.

By "thread has been read feature is borked", I mean that it just marks everything read after some unknown time, so if you get interrupted while reading and come back you have no idea what you've actually read.

And note that were at vBulletin 3.6.0, which besides being old has none of the 3.6 patches included.

Yeah, I've never understood why this board's first new post feature sucks so badly. On another board I read, they have a free proboards set-up, and the first new post feature is better - it tracks each thread individually, so if I don't click on a thread for weeks and hit first new post, it remembers the last post for that thread even if I've been viewing the first new posts of other threads on a daily basis.

That's how the WOOF vBulletin forum works.

I didn't know that anyone outside of my Mother-in-law still used IE to begin with.

That's actually the current page, all the other images were deleted. There's your problem right there.

Why do these threads inevitably go to this issue? I don't care about changing browsers enough to spend the time. IE works for what I need. I tried switching to a couple of others several years ago, and they slowed down my browsing pretty drastically. I really don't need all the bells and whistles that supposedly come with other browsers. It's just not that high of a priority for me.

I was just wondering what the issue was, and apparently it's the browser. If it was sometihng with the board, I hoped to have it fixed. I guess I'll just browse threads a bit differently now.

It's a bit of both. View Unread works great on the WOOF board with IE9. It's an old vBulletin, the way the feature is configured, and IE9 together that create the issue.

So, no solution to this? It is weird that I upgraded my browser, and things worked fine. Then in the last week, certian threads (not all, but several) no longer update as being read. Very annoying.

Yeah, I just learned to deal with it. Very annoying, especially when it works fine at work but I have to remember it doesn't work at home.
