How long until the Steelers ban their players from visiting Georgia?

Hines Ward arrested early this morning on a DUI charge.

Well, his mom lives here (and works with a friend of mine). Not likely going to keep him from Georgia.

Just another guy who's lucky that driving drunk is no big deal in this country.

I feel sorry for these professional athletes that keep getting arrested for drunk driving. I mean, it must be extremely hard to call a cab or hire a driver for the evening or just, I don't know, be responsible now and again. The pressures of having all that money and not being able to afford someone to drive you around after you've had a few drinks, must be enormous.

Don't talk shit about the Steelers. They are a classy organization that's built on character, ethics, and valor. Anybody who does wrong while representing the black and gold gets dumped from the team immediately. STEELERS ARE THE BESTEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111112.

Yeah I never understand the no-cabbing thing. Regular people do it, how can athletes not have money for it.

Maybe many athletes do? It is after all a small % that get charged with DUIs. One is too many and I'm with others here who feel it should be treated much, much more harshly, but just because Hines Ward is a complete fucking moron doesn't mean they all are.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say ALL athletes obviously. But it is fairly common to read player X with a DUI/DWI.

Maybe they felt OK but were over the legal limit and didn't realize it, I don't know. Or maybe they're just idiots.

I'll break out the Freakonomics answer and say that people D&D because the probability of getting caught is excruciatingly low. So people get away with it all the time. So for an athlete to make that same decision, money or no money, isn't that big of a stretch. It does not make it any better at all. It's just a horrible, horrible thing with incredibly big downside potential.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I just don't see this story and think "those damn athletes!" moreso "fucking morons". Like, is there anything in athlete DNA that makes this more likely or is it just young ppl feeling invincible, perhaps athletes feel even more invincible I guess, or more entitled, though your average asshole on the street has a pretty strong sense of entitlement out of nowhere too. I dunno, I'm rambling!

It seems likely to me that there is probably something specific to the makeup (psychological and/or genetically) of higher caliber athletes that connects to one or more of those feelings (invincibility, entitlement, etc). Certainly seems as though we hear a higher percentage of these kinds of things with athletes than with, say, actors (to name another well paid high profile occupation).

After all, there's the phrase "the jock mentality" whereas I can't think of a corresponding phrase for actors or musicians.

Also, Hines Ward called & said thanks for including the word "young" in a conversation that involved him
