Comcast Vs. DIRECTV

So I've been using Comcast forever for cable and internet. As I'm sure most of you know, Comcast is notorious for increasing prices each month and I'm just fed up. I've gotten commitments with them in which I've signed for 6 months in a locked price or whatever only to have the bill STILL increase by like $20 every month. I have a good deal with them (supposed to be $100ish for high speed internet 6MB maybe and HD cable in 3 rooms with HBO, pretty solid package).

But I just can't stand Comcast and now that DIRECTV is offering the NFL package, and living in Chicago but being a Detroit fan, I'm salivating at the idea of watching the Lions in HD EVERY game! This would save me $20 a week at Buffalo Wild Wings too haha

How is DIRECTV? I've had them before and I know weather can be an issue...I just want something more consistent in pricing!

Do they offer internet too?

One thing I'm worried about with DIRECTV is the 2-year commitment. What if they take NFL Sunday Ticket away?!?!

There was a recent thread regarding your directtv internet question that likely has answers for that part of your post:

High speed internet with Direct TV - Front Office Football Central

Another HUGE draw is it appears I can get Fox Sports Detroit, which means 90% of Tigers games. However, is that worth an additional $50/month for that premium DTV package (compared to one of there more standard ones)? Probably not considering I have a Slingbox setup at my parent's house back in MI.

Plus, baseball is wrapping up soon.

I dumped Comcrap for DirecTV. Free HD channels for life, which I guess is a deal until all channels are HD. New DirecTV customers get NFL Sunday ticket for free right now. Not sure if that promo has expired or not though. I haven't had any issues with DirecTV since I got it, which is going on a year now, even a pretty heavy rain/wind storm we had around the 1st of the year didn't knock it out. Picture is waaaayyyyy better than the signal Comcrap was shoveling.

You do get all of the local Fox Sports stations, but the games will be blacked out unless you have the MLB package too.

Exactly. You will get Fox Sports Detriot but no pistons, wings or Tigers games, just everything else on FSD, e.g, the stuff no one watches.

The DirecTV signal only goes out during times of HEAVY thunderstorms, not just any old time it rains. Unless you didn't have it installed properly. It is very rare that it actually goes out, and it's usually for 15-20 minutes at most at a time.

Yeah, as people point out, you don't get any of the professional sports games on these channels unless you have the PPV package (Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings, etc.) or the game is shown on the NBA,NFL, NHL or MLB networks, although you will get the professional games on the local sports channel where you live.

Aside from that, though, you can add the sports pack for $13 a month. This gives you all the regional sports channels. And while you won't get professional sports on these channels, it's great for college football and basketball.

Ya, that was pretty amazing for college football season, I was able to get all of Syracuse's games with no problem as well as a ton of random 1-AA stuff.

My only complaint about DirecTV is at all is having to call them when I cancel cancel any packages or programming - it seems to take way longer than any other subscription-based services I've dealt with, but others don't have that problem.
