Worst Chick Flick Ever
Last night I had to suffer through watching A Walk to Remember with Mandy Moore. It's one of my wife's favorite movies. The scene in particular that kills me is where after learning that Mandy Moore has leukemia (forgive me, I have no idea of the character names), the boyfriend rushes off to see his father who he has a strained relationship with and demands that since he's a doctor he cure her. The dad attempts to tell him that he would need to see her and understand her case, but the boyfriend just gets pissed and says "I knew you wouldn't help." Uh yeah... the dad can't cure cancer. And near the end the boyfriend... high school boyfriend... basically monopolizes all of the time in the hospital because... "I LOVE HER MAN!!!" I'd tell him to GTFO so the family could be with her.
Anyway... the movie annoys the hell out of me and I'm curious now as to what other chick flicks you've had to suffer through and what makes them major suckage. I should have just gone upstairs and played minecraft. Last edited by heybrad : 08-29-2011 at 12:28 PM. |

Wait, they remade Love Story?
This is why I've instituted a no movies policy in my household.

I took the high road last year and actually went to the movie theater with my wife and shelled out real American dollars for a Twilight movie......

Ouch.
Actually, it works really well in my house. When the wife wants to see a movie, I let her go with her friends, and I watch the kids. So she gets to see a movie, I get to not see a movie, and she gets a break from the kids. It's win-win.

Usually I can get away with this, but every once in a while I have to show some interest in stuff she likes. I nod my head and smile when she shows me a pair of new shoes, and I try to avoid crappy movies at all costs. With that being said, it does buy me about a month or so of guilt/complaint free video gaming. ![]()

My wife knows movies are off limits with me, so she doesn't even try anymore.

Whenever my wife asks me to actually go out to the movies and it's for a chick flick I give my standard response of... "Is this the one where the guy gets the girl, loses the girl and they manages to get back together in the end?" At that point she doesn't want to go with me anyways, so she now goes with our daughter.

haha...I spent the ringing in of my birthday watching the second twilight film with my girlfriend. 12:01 on June 30th, I was in that theatre. Oddly enough the theatre was packed but no waiting in line for the men's restroom

I guess I am in the minority. My wife would rather see Transformers than a chick flick.
We went and saw the first Transformers for her 40th. |

Oh the Twilight flicks are such drivel. I mean vampires sparkle, really? I got into it with the wife when I sat through the first one and found out that vampires sparkled. There I was defending the qualities and characteristics of "real" vampires. The wife was very quick to note that vampire were not in fact real. To which I responded "this movie sucks and if vampires were real they sure as hell would not sparkle."

Actually, as far as chick flicks go, A Walk to Remember isn't so bad. After all, the ending isn't the super duper happy sort, or legitimizes going after a taken man because "you are meant to be with him anyway".

Chick flick movies I don't mind - heck I quite enjoy a lot of them (ie. Sliding Doors) ....
Chick theatre on the other hand, arrrrrgggghhhh .. I endured 'Phantom of the Opera' for my wife, NEVER AGAIN .... that thing went on for hours, possibly days ..... |

My misses is into movies like Magnolia, Requiem for a Dream, Horror films, and The Big Lebowski. So we watch a shitload of films together. It's like 50% of what we do in our free time. I'll consider myself lucky.

Never saw any of them, but, what about the Sex and the City movies? Something tells me they'd rank up there.

The thread where everyone is cathartically emoting about modern music feels like a chick flick.

Yes, that worked for me for many years. Now, however, my daughter is married and drags her husband to movies he doesn't want to see. I, once again, get dragged to movies I don't want to see. It's like a cancer that went into remission and not only comes back but spreads to the innocent.

"You have to promise not to fall in love with me."
Anyway, the movie is what it is, a one-note mediocre adaptation of a very average Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name. It's essentially a vehicle for Mandy Moore to move CDs, with an otherwise forgettable cast, story, and ending.

My parents and aunt and uncle took me to the movies and somehow I ended up watching Mamma Mia. Let me put it this way. The ending featured a bunch of older men talking off their shirts, dancing, hugging, water coming down, and all the while ABBA music being sung. I'm willing to bet A Walk to Remember was better than that.

Dude, I hardly saw a movie for eight years after we had kids. If I did it was always interrupted about seven times, perhaps with something that involved somebody else's bowel movements. Watching chick flicks ain't that big of a problem, trust me. |

Watch Maid in Manhattan and then tell you've seen the worst chick flick ever.
I have seen a Walk to Remember many years ago with a girlfriend. I remember it specifically because I made fun of the movie throughout and she got really pissed. I kept telling her that popular, good looking high school kids would only be concerned about getting their dick wet. |

You forgot the alternate - guy makes fun of the girl, girl changes, guy gains interest in the girl, guy gets the girl. My wife doesn't even try to involve me with her movies. Occasionally, one is one and it might catch my attention and I'll watch it, but that is rare.

It's the plot of a TON of chick flicks. Besides those, Get Over It springs to mind. Granted, that was a very loose re-telling of Midsummer's Night Dream, but still.

I also remember a fantasy series that had that storyline as its main romantic arc.
